Just thought I should post this for contact lens wearers. A second recall od Complete Moisture Plus was just recalled. It can cause severe eye infections and possible blindness. This makes me so mad, this is what I use I guess I'll call my eye doctor in the morning and ask for a substitute. The news also said to throw away your lens and container also. |

yikes! this is the solution I use! Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to throw out everything and get a new solution and case!
Darn, and this is the solution my doc recommended for me... |

Geez, all these recalls ... pet food, contact solutions and who knows what else ... that's just darn scary! I'm glad with contacts that I wear the dailies that you throw out every night. Although it makes you wonder what solution they are packaged in.
Thanks for the "heads-up". |

My solution too, and I wasn't aware of this being the *second* recall. My eye doctor's office recommended Opti-Free Replenish to replace Complete Moisture Plus. I will go back under my rock now... |

I've tried od Complete Moisture Plus before and it made my eyes really itchy and sensitive so I switched to Cibavision Aquify Multi-purpose solution and it's awesome. |

No need to panic. Complete is actually a very good multi-purpose solution and has had a stellar reputation for years. This is a very limited recall -- only 18 lots are affected, and only 12 oz. size and active packs are being recalled. No problems with the 4 oz. or 16 oz. sizes, and no problems with the samples from the eye doctor's office. It is as a precaution only so far, because they were having problems at one of their manufacturing plants overseas. No problems have been reported in the US.
Very different from the prior recall of one of the Renu solutions (it was "Renu MoistureLoc" only -- all the other Renu varieties were fine) where the solution itself was problematic. |

The report did say only 12oz bottles. I buy small bottles so it doesn't sit around for very long.I'm going to buy another brand of solution.
Moonstar how do you like your daily wear lenses? I have dry eyes and don't know if they would work for me.
All these recall are very troubling. What next? |

I heard about this and its the contact solution I've been using for years! I appreciate all the alternative contact solutions mentioned in this thread because I honestly have no idea what to use next. I've used Complete for as long as I've been wearing contact lenses. I am thinking about switching to daily disposables, to avoid all contact solutions. |

Just thought I would mention that generally those all-in-one type cleaners aren't the best for your eyes b/c they don't really effectively cleanse your lenses. And a contact lens wearer should be extra careful when placing foreign objects in his/her eyes everyday. I use Clear Care (the package comes with a storage case that has a neutralizing disc in it) and it really works well. It was recommended to me by my opthamologist. I have used those other all-in-ones before and this is very effective at removing all proteins, debris, etc. |

I just bought Cibavision's Aquify,so far so good. Clear Care sounds good too.
I heard on the news that it is an amoeba type that makes a hole in the cornea.
I really think I'm going to look into daily disposables. |

The ideal would be daily disposables... when I can afford it that's what I am going with! So the alternative for me for now is the Clear Care. (After you put your lenses into the solution it bubbles... and this visual (and auditory) indication shoes that it's goin' to work! After 6 hours, it turns into saline solution and then it's ok to place your lenses in your eyes. (Before that it stings like H-E-double L. Trust me, I've made that mistake on accident!) |

I remember someone told me about a solution that stings if you don't follow the instructions on the box and wait until putting the contacts in your eyes. I wasn't sure which one so I stuck with Complete (thanks for your explanation... now I know why and which one). I like using an all-in-one because I often rinse out my contacts with the contact solution before placing it into my eyes.
Amnis, have you considered purchasing contact lenses online? The prices are much lower (at least for me in Cnd). |

Hi sweet28,
I actually do purchase my lenses online (coastalcontacts.com is the best deal I found a few months ago when I ordered my ProClear Compatibles). Even ordering dailies online is too expensive for me right now.
I also use preservative-free saline solution to rinse my fingers (after I wash and dry my hands- rinses away any lint) and lenses before placing them in my eyes (it's not necessary with Clear Care but I like to just in case to get any residual lint or whatever off of them. It also ensures that they are nice and wet when I put them into my eyes). I buy a pack of 3 4oz bottles from RiteAid. After 30 days whether the bottle is used up or not, I pitch it. But usually I use it all up in 30 days anyway. I love the size too- great for carrying it around with me if I need to rinse my eyes or lenses when they get too cruddy for just eye drops to work. |

Hi Amnis,
I know what you mean about the price tag for some of these contact lenses. It can get pretty expensive. I wish I had perfect vision, and I wouldn't have to spend all this money on contact lenses, and solutions!
I also recently discovered and ordered contacts from the same online store. Great minds think alike! Their customer service is pretty good and they told me to get as many trial eye contacts as I could from the eye doctor's office, so I can make the right order online. I recently asked for several kinds of one day disposable samples (focus, acuvue and another one they ordered for me). These are all free for patients.
I also spoke the the ladies at the office and they mentioned the same solutions you are using as a good alternative to Complete. So if the one day disposables don't work out for me, I know which solutions to turn to next. Thanks! |

Sorry for the late response - I haven't checked this thread in a while.
I love my dailies! Being able to throw them out at the end of the day and put in a new pair is great! Plus, if I ever accidently tear one, I have a backup handy. I have dry eyes too though and still have problems with dryness. The ones I use are Focus Dailies ... there's other brands but this one seemed to fit the best for my eyes. And with these, if I fall asleep on the sofa with them on they really stick to your eye and it takes alot of drops to moisten them up again. For the convenience though, using more eye drops throughout the day is worth it.
I've been so tempted to get Lasik, but I have to admit I'm a little apprehensive about it still. Maybe in a year or so. |

Amnis, I use the same preservative-free saline-- isn't it awesome? It's pretty much the only thing that doesn't irritate my eyes. |

Hi Moonstarr,
I tried Focus Dailies (free samples from my doc) and they totally stuck to my eye balls no matter what. It kinda scared me! I also sampled Acuvue dailies and they were pretty good but the diameter wasn't big enough (my pupils dialate past the diameter of correction so I have to wear certain kinds of lenses with larger diameters of correction) so at night I would have vision issues.
I know what you mean about being apprehensive about Lasik surgery. I keep thinking if I wait it out a few more years there will be more reassurance that it's safe. I'm such a nervous-Nellie about it. |

Hey Liz, another eye product we have in common, eh? (Btw, what brand contacts do you wear? LOL) Yes, it's the only thing my eyes can tolerate as well... it's the gentlest I've found. I think I once got a pack of these smaller preservative-free saline bottles before but I can't remember where I got it. Walmart? Walgreens? But I know it was when I was living in the Bay area in CA and I haven't seen it up here. So maybe it's just not distributed to the Walmart up here. I at least can buy the Rite Aid brand. (thank goodness!) |

It started out as only for 18 specific lots, but has now been expanded to include ALL products/lots. If you like all-in-one solutions, I would recommend Optifree or Renu. I wouldn't recommend generics (as I understand it, most of the generics are prior versions of name-brand solutions). |
