Hi All, this is my first post. I started the Obagi Nu Derm system 2 months ago. I did it for 4 weeks, then got the blue peel. My face healed up within a week and I waited 3 days, then started the Obagi system again. The problem now is acne. I have always had it off and on. I wanted to maintain a clear complexion with Obagi. A big mistake I made after the peel was to use other medicated topicals with the Obagi system (Benzaclin, erythromyacin). I didn’t know at the time but this further aggravated my condition and I REALLY broke out bad on my chin. I stopped all product except for Obagi and it has been 5 days with only Obagi. My chin is still really broken out with tons of new little whiteheads popping up daily. It is also peeling and really itches. I take Doxycyclin (for about 1 week now) and it has worked in the past for me but not yet this time. My question to you is: Should I continue with the Obagi and hope this clears up or should I stop Obagi and go to a Benzaclin regiment? Do people break out bad after the mask? I want to get the even skin tone Obagi promises but also want this acne to clear up! This is the worst it has ever been. Thanks all!

I have used Nu-Derm system for only one week because had acne problem.
For the period, I used only Obagi so I believe my acne came from there. Sad

Do you use Retin A with your Obagi regime? If so, you might want to check if it contains isopropyl miristate.

I was told that isopropyl miristate causes acne breakouts. Make sure that your Retin A does not contain this ingredient.

I am using tretinoin but have no idea of the ingredients. I have a prescription for retin-a micro so i will get that. It does not contain IM, correct? the acne is still really bad on my chin. I really want to get the benifits of Obagi but am wondering if this acne will ever clear up! I keep thinking i should quit it and start using a benzaclin regiment.

I would have quit long time ago. (Actually I used it only one week. Rolling Eyes )
Obagi might clear up my skin but before I get any result those acnes are going to leave new scars, so what's the benefit from it?

Hey Kenchumk, what about the "worse before it gets better" period? Didn't you want to see if Obagi would work? It is supposed to take 6 weeks before you get positive results

I would not mind peeling process Obagi gives but was not prepared for acnes. Sad
There is so many other items that I want to try without having big trouble. Now I'm looking into Jessner's peel. Hopefully I can get good results from it.

Please let me know once you stop having breakout Very Happy

plasmajam any prescription acne treatment can make your acne worse before it gets better. RetinA can do this and so can Benzaclin. IMO using the other medicated topicals with the Obagai system is way too irritating which could actually cause your acne to worsen, I think that this may be what happened to you. Correct me if I am wrong here but I thought that the Obagi Blue Peel is a Jessner's peel but with some substance that causes the skin to turn blue. Also, I used to get 70% glycolic acid peels and am convinced that in my case the peels made my acne worse. I don't think this is a typical reaction but I have heard others mention having their acne get worse after strong peels. HTH

Hi TheresaL. Yes, ever since my obagi blue peel, i have had worse acne. i think i just need to give my skin a rest. i was mixing topicals after the peel and now realize that made things worse. its very frustrating! i just want clear skin with the benifits that obagi promises. i am going to a new derm on friday that i hope will help.

update: i switched from generic trentinoin (wich had isopropyl mirostate) to Retin-A Micro 3 nights ago (which does not)...i have not had any new breakouts! Cherubs1923, i think you are correct. I had new breakouts daily from generic trentinoin and now have not had any since using Retin-A Micro. I told the derm that prescribed the trentinoin to me and they didn't know! i think i am on the road to recovery!

Hi.

While on Obagi, you should not use anything else. Also, don't eat fried and/or junk food. This will help clear the pimples. Drink lots of water to cleanse your system...

Cheers.

5 weeks into the obagi regime I had a terrible acne outbreak--big cysts--but it went away quickly and then my skin looked gorgeous. It's all part of the process I guess.
