I assume for a PC/Windows?
SpyBot Search & Destroy is always a good one for blocking malware, trojans etc As far as firewalls go, ZoneAlarm has always been a good choice. I'm not sure if any free but good virus checkers exist. I use Symantec.

I use Kerio Personal Firewall and have never had any problems even though I'm too lazy to do regular virus checks. |

i use sygate personal firewall, it's free and it's a really good firewall for personal use.
i can't recommend a free antivirus software, i use norton also, but i get it for free from my school with free virus updates. i remember the norton website had a free virus scanning program on their website that scans your computer for you, i'm not sure if they do taht anymore though. |

Comodo and ZoneAlarm are two good free firewall choices.
Avast and AVG are free antiviruses.
Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware are free anti-spywares.
it's good to use 2 antiviruses, and 2 antispywares. of course, only have one antivirus or antispyware running at a time; use the second to scan periodically and catch what the first may not have. |
