That's interesting, because that wasn't the lengthy part of getting a passport! Perhaps opening more offices that handle applications in person could have been a way to help with the volume.
My SO and I recently got our passports (here in Edmonton) - it was about the start of May. We got to the passport office at 7:30am, already a line-up with about 150 people. The people at the front of the line got there before 6am. The office opened at 8am. Since I filled out my application on e-pass, we got rerouted to the "fast" line, after passed the first line. In total, we spent 1.5 hours waiting and submitting our applications. They told us to expect our passports to come in the mail at the start of June due to increased volume, however they still arrived mid-May, as their original delivery dates suggested. Overall, I didn't find the 1.5 hours to be that bad, but I know there are people who waited much longer.
I wouldn't rely on waiting for my passport to come in the mail. Their wait-times are long, and risk being lost. |

The line ups are ridiculous. One time, i went in took a number then went to eat lunch for an hour, then came back and still needed to wait for about another hour. |

I went in at 9am for my application. I was out in about 1.5 hours. |

My daughter was just hired as a passport officer and is in the middle of a month's training in BC. They hired an additional 10 people for our small local office alone, so they're gearing up for sure. |
