I love the thread asking "how high maintenance are you", and noticed not too many people mentioned going to the gym. So, I wondered...how many people have a body regimen as well?
I'm not so interested in the bath care type stuff, as I am in the health-related area.
Obviously, many of us take skin-care supps like MSM, flax seed, and omega-3s that are generally good for you. But what else do you take for your health? Also, what kind of exercise routines do you have, and what other regimens do you have for your body? So many people swear by dry-brushing, but are there any other suggestions for taking care of body skin?
And do you follow a specific diet like Atkins, South Beach, raw foods, etc?
Thanks! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

I aim to preserve my body in alcohol starting ante-mortem. I also preserve joint function by moving as little as possible ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

When I find myself unable to follow guapa's sage advice, it's yoga for me. |

I follow the good path of yoga as well, and enjoy brisk walking.
Health related, well, I just try to eat a healthy and varied diet. No fast food, no sweets, hardly any meat...it's amazing when you live without it for so long, it becomes gross to you. It all starts on the inside.
A warning about flaxseed I've come across in my studies If you consume too much of it daily, it interferes with vital vitamin absorption, so don't go beyond the one teaspoon a day thing. |

I like your approach, Freva. This sounds do-able! Thanks for the info about flaxseed, I didn't know that. I wonder if grinding it makes a difference? That's how I put it in my smoothies. |

You're quite welcome! I'm not sure about grinding it or not, since I dump mine into smoothies as well...I'm sure anything's okay just as long as it's consumed in moderation. |

I've been told that it's better to grind them first, so they don't just pass through the system whole and unassimilated. |

Okay, that sounds gross! Other than the strange sensation, why do you do this? ![hmm](images/smiles/017.gif) |

Im taking 2 tbsp of flaseed oil a day so that means it not good? Do you think fish oil is better then? |

I'm sorry i think you guys are talking about flaxseed itself not the oil? right? |

Yeah, actual flaxseed. I don't think two spoonfuls a day won't hurt you (provided that they're not huge tablespoons) but I'd be weary of going further. I know that it also causes indigestion as well in higher doses. My tummy couldn't handle it, so I use it sparingly. Since I've begun to eat more fish and fibre-rich food, I don't need to depend on flaxseed so much. |

Went to a nutritionist to handle some health issues (as my signature line indicates) and was told that flax seed is either best when fresh ground (you can use a coffee bean grinder, which works great) or in oil form. If in oil form, try to get it from a reputable health food store and watch the lignans (sp?).
Here's something for keeping the body moving and immunity up ... at least this is what I do:
- Drink water (I like it with lemon in the AM)
- good multi, MSM, Vitamin C and Omega3 Oil or Flax seed oil (I prefer to interchange) and Juice Plus ('cuz I eat vegies, but it's not my food of choice so I can definitely use the boost)
- fresh air
- Yoga, weight training (osteoporosis is not pretty) and cardio (heart disease is the # 1 health issue for women) @ least 4 - 5 x's a week
- a few smaller meals throughout the day combining good protein source with good carb source (try to include a probiotic like Kefir or Yogurt for digestion - digestive enzymes decrease with age)
- a positive mind set and make sure to laugh as much as possible during the day
- don't sweat the small stuff
- hugs and kisses
- and 7 - 8 hours of sleep a night
Still alive and kickin' and causin' trouble whenever possible. |

I love this post. I thought it would be about skincare for the body...I'm always searching for the best scrub and body lotions. |

I don't know what other people do. But will only speak for myself. I don't smoke, eat very healthy, vegies, less meat, more fish,
I go to swim weekly for approx. 4 hours to 8 hours. Bike weekly, walk with friends...
I don't go to the gym at all.... However, I kept my weight the same for the last 12 years.... Don't diet. I guess, should be a little bit of everything would be good
BTW, I ALSO eat ice cream once in a while when the weather is hot
