DIY - PSF Acne mud mask?

Hey all, I searched and searched for a DIY version of PSF acne mud mask and couldn't find it. Does anyone have this recipe? I go through this so quickly, I figure I better start making it myself.

I don't think it's very special, and you can do without a lot of the additives. You can buy a good white or green kaolin clay (depending on strength) and add some vitamin c or aspirin powder. To strengthen the mask I would mix it with an astringent hydrosol like witchhazel or Dr Hauschka's steam concentrate.

To prevent your masks from going off or reacting, I would keep the mixture dry and mix as I need, it helps to prevent the mixture from drying too.

Thanks for chiming in minarets -- For me, PSF acne mud mask IS special! Laughing

It works much more effectively than the clay masks I make up on my own, that's why I keep buying it.

Reading the list of ingredients I don't know exactly what makes it so effective; is it the addition of sulfur, willowbark extract, neem oil, aloe vera or the synergistic combination of all I simply don't know.

I've tried mixing up a small batches of this mask [without the preservatives since I do it one batch at a time] but none of them seem to be as effective so hopefully someone with greater success will chime in.

I find regular kaolin to not be so effective either. Perhaps it is the additives like sulphur and willow bark which are quite good. I think you can buy sulphur from pharmacies, and willow bark just substitute with aspirin.

like the proactiv refining mask? Is it that weak....or is it just me?

The lovely ladies at Garden of Wisdom helped me with this one. I've purchased the ingredients and will be mixing and testing shortly. Once I come up with a concoction that works, I'll be sure to post my results. Very Happy

BTW, the main base of this mask is French Green Clay, not kaolin clay.

Hey sudansy and welcome! I too tried proactive refining mask, but didn't find it to be nearly as effective as PSF acne mud mask. Hopefully my latest recipe will work better than previous attempts! Laughing

I had almost forgotten about this thread - Anyhoo, this is my most updated recipe. I dissolve the MSM in hydrosol by very short 10 second bursts in the microwave. Mix all ingredients in a small plastic or glass bowl with a porcelain mixing spoon until well combined. Store in a clean 2 oz. jar with a tight fitting lid [old PSF Pumpkin Enzyme mask jars are PERFECT for this!]

Please keep in mind that I developed this for oily skin prone to breakouts. Those with more sensitive skintypes should adjust this by leaving out or reducing the Tea Tree, lavendar EOs and willowbark extract.

The hydrosols and EOs were obtained fromwww.mountainroseherbs.com. Other actives like the seamollient, moor mud and willowbark extract were purchased from GOW.

7 t. French Green Clay
1 t. MSM dissolved in Rose Geranium hydrosol
2 t. collodial mineral
2 t. seamollient
2 t. Moor Mud
26 drops Black Willowbark Extract
20 drops organic Neem oil
6 drops tea tree EO - organic
6 drops lavendar EO - organic
3 drops rosemary EO - organic
3 drops lemongrass EO - organic
