I was a HUGE fan of the original Epidermx but sadly the new version EpidermxII breaks me out even if cleanse again afterwards.
So I am on the hunt for a new microdermabrasion to use at home.
While on holiday in Florida I popped into Sephora and bought some Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion in a jar - it does a good job, doesn't break me out but the smell reminds me of bathroom cleaner and it hasn't blown me away - it didn't give me the 'wow' factor that Epidermx did.
So has anyone got any recommendations? I've read good reviews about Kate Somerville and PSF (how do these compare to Original Epidermx and Brandt?)
Thanks all!

I used SpaGirls home microdermabrasion kit for a while and loved it! Then I stopped, and when I started back up again (3-4 months later) it broke me out horribly. I don't know why that happened, but I've never used it again. Maybe the crystals went sour or my face just revolted! ![Rolling Eyes](images/smiles/rolleyes.gif) |

I used to like the Philosophy one that fizzed up (sorry, can't remember the name, but it came in a kit). Sadly, it's very expensive over here, though. |

I was in love with epidermx until I found Neostrata's at home microderm system. It has an activator that dissolves the crystals after you massage them for a minute. They sorta foam up and disappear with the activator which is kinda kewl.

Thanks everyone - some products to check out!
Chrissie - you can't get the original any more - unless the odd jar appears on ebay.
Microdermx is the same thing but there was some unpleasantness when some employees allegedly split off from Epidermx and pinched the formula(apparently/allegedly)anyway it all got rather messy so I was really trying to not use it if I could find an alternative (its more expensive for less product too!). |

I just did a review on the Dr. Copeland Microdermabrasion on the other board, if you want to take a look and see if it might be something you would be interested in... |

I always cleanse my face before using EpidermX II. Ever since I started using it, my breakouts have actually decreased. |

Hi Yen,
Thanks for replying.
oops sorry I re-read my post and I guess it could be read that I only cleanse after EpidermxII - I cleanse before I use it and again after as I wondered if it was leaving something on my skin that my skin took exception too.
These days I don't tend to break out unless my skin is reacting to a product and by a process of elimination I know its the Epidermx breakin me out - very strange. |

Some of you may remember years back I SOLD Epidermx (beautifulnewskin)anyway I like Olay's 2 part kit which I have read is like Philosophy's. I don't think it works quite as well as Epidermx but it works well and not too pricey. What my skins likes better for exfoliation is 40% lactic acid peels or I use Avene products with retinhyde (sp?)
Chrissie is correct that Microdermx is a split (ex-distributors) from Epidermx. I suspect BOTH formulas have changed. ![Wink](images/smiles/wink.gif) |

I want to add my $0.02 and recommend the Patricia Wexler MD Resurfacing Microbrasion system. It has very, very fine sanding particles. I found it to be gentle yet effective. Makeup Alley shows 91% of 12 reviewers would repurchase the product, giving it an overall rating of 4.3 out of 5. You can purchase it for $40.00 from Bath and Body Works http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2109833&cp=2488779&parentPage=category or as part of a kit. It's the best I've found so far, but I have not yet tried the EpidermxII I received. |

Sassyred - yes I think the formulas have changed for Microdermx too, looking at the ingredients on their website:

Might order some and see ...very tempted... ![Embarassed](images/smiles/redface.gif) |

You cleanse before and after? Isn't that a bit too much cleansing? I always use a wash cloth to rinse off the EpidermX II. I don't have any residue. |

Hi Yen,
I only used to cleanse before the Epidermx (original) but someone suggested cleansing afterwards too on another thread as that worked for them when they began to break out.
The 2nd cleanse is just a gentle cleanser and splash off.
As an aesthetician/Beauty Therapist (previous 'life' )we always cleansed twice at the beginning of a treatment.Providing the cleanser is appropriate to the skintype and gentle (pref Ph balanced) then double cleansing is very effective and ensures that all makeup/SPF has been removed.
Sadly I have tried various ways of using the EpidermxII and it doesn't matter - I always break out. |

Lucia, I'm so sorry that it didn't work out for you. I didn't like it that much at first. In the beginning, I used it here and there then I gradually worked up to using it twice a day. Ever since I started using it twice a day, my skin started to behave. I would still break out here and there but they were nothing compared to before. For the first time in a long time, my skin actually looked smooth. |

It's great it's working for you
Just goes to show what suits one person doesn't suit another however good the product is. I love the fact that EpidermxII is so natural and it smells glorious - my skin just didnt like it as much as me!!
Finding a product that suits and delivers is brilliant - seems with me if I like it then that's its death wish! Everytime I find a HG product they either change the formula or stop making it!LOL! ![Laughing](images/smiles/lol.gif) |
