I'm considering getting veneers on my teeth, to correct small gaps, and slight crookedness. Has anyone gotten them? Do you like them? I was wondering how much it hurts and what they have to do to your teeth to put them on. I'm concerned that they have to grind them down...and what happens if they fall off? Also...I read that they put somethin "temporary" on them until the permanent one's are put on. What do they look like? How do you make sure your dentist really knows what they are doing? Any thoughts/advice on the subject would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks! |

I had them done to correct tetracycline stained teeth. They look great, but they feel awful. I did a lot of teeth (8 top, 8 bottom), and I think having so many done is a big part of the problem. I feel like it's someone else's mouth. My teeth do not fit together like they used to and even though it's been 3 years since I had it done, I still am not used to the feel and my bite feels off. I had them adjusted many times, and I've finally given up.
Also, it's strange, but I just do not feel like my mouth is healthy anymore, even though I brush with Sonicare 4 times a day, floss, and use Listerine. I would not do it again if I had it to do over. Unfortunately, a year after I had it done, they came out with Lumineers, which do not require filing/damaging your natural teeth. I would recommend looking into Lumineers first. I would only recommend veneers if you are doing a few teeth. |

I did not have veneers, however I had invisalign done to correct the same problems as you are describing. My problems included a gap and slight crookedness of a couple of teeth.
I am very happy with the results, and there is nothing artificial in my mouth, just my own teeth. I had half of the treatment done by Orthoclear, and half by Invisalign, because Orthoclear got closed. |

How much is Invisalign? I was considering to get that before.
I wanted to get veneers but the dentist talked me out of it. She said it would look fake when you take pictures. |

Hi bkkgirl,
I started doing it a year ago, and got quotes from a couple of orthodontists. One asked $2,700, and the other one asked $3,400. I selected $2,700. In addition my insurance covered $1,000. It brought my cost down to $1,700. Also the orthodontist put me on a payment plan for 9 months, during the treatment. Which was also helpful. |

What I did not mention, there were several other benefits from dong Invisalign.
I used Invisalign aligners for teeth bleaching. Usually, when you want to bleach the teeth professionally, you need to pay about $400 for the custom trays, and I used Invisalign trays for it. Also if you have a problem with teeth grinding at night, which lots of people do, you can wear the aligners at night even after your treatment is over. The aligners are thin, custom fit, and a comfortable for the night usage.
You can get triple benefits from Invisalign: correct the teeth, whiten the, protect from night grinding. |

Thank you, mpstat, for the information. That's much more affordable than I thought. Are you in the US? |

Yes, bkkgirl. I live in US, in Atlanta.
Both orthodontists told me, that I had an easy case, however I do not know how much the complexity is factored into the cost. |
