I need serious help here! I'm on my 8th week of Obagi and although it helped with the acne scars and skin tone, the exfoliating made my freckles and beauty marks just pop out. It's so visible too since my skin tone is now pretty even and light.

I know most whitening products help block melanin and new freckles from forming, but what breaks up freckles and beauty marks you already have??? I don't want to go the IPL route unless I really have to and I'll still have to find some alternative after my Obagi cycle is over! Shiseido? SKII? Decleor? Anything?

they are called beauty marks for a reason. They are beautiful. You could try and use stuff to break them down but why risk damaging your skin?

Kareberry - The obagi program is for a total of 18 weeks, 3 cycles of 6 weeks each. You have just completed 1 cycle. Maybe you can try and stay on obagi for the remainder of the time recommended. That should help with the fading of the freckles.

you should check out kose, kanebo, or sofina. they make some famous whitenning products.
I also heard a serum called HAKU 2 Melanofocus by shisedo is really good too. though it is quite expensive.

Check out the Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment. This system has been known to significantly reduce or remove any freckles (as well as lighten uneven skin tone). As for your beauty marks, they made fade with the Cosmelan system but it's unknown whether they will completely disappear. Take a look at the Before & After shots on the Cosmelan website - you'll notice that some users who had heavy beauty marks before they began treatment still had them after treatment, and others did not.

I have heard that exfoliating products can make freckles appear more prominent at first, but if you continue, then the skin will adjust. The theory is that the exfoliation removes the top layers of the skin and "exposes" the pigmentation underneath. There is a chance that the process may also improve the pigmentation if you complete the course of treatment. The full benefits may not be seen for some months. Make sure your sunscreen has high protection (PPD of 20 and above would be ideal). This will help your skin to eliminate pigment and fade it. Vitamin C serum under the sunscreen will also help to even out the skin tone.

I probably will keep at it until the 18 weeks are up and thankfully I'm not really peeling anymore. But doesn't that also mean that the exfoliation isn't really working? But I guess you're right about sticking with it. Thanks everyone for the encouragement

Can you recommend a few Vit C serums? I have been looking into getting it but I'm not sure which one to get!

Kareberry, no, it really doesn't mean the exfoliation is not working. Most people usually adapt to the Retin A after several weeks and the peeling usually subsides. I just figured since you had already gone through 8 weeks, you might as well finish the whole program. That way, you will at least see how well the obagi works for your skin. You may need something else, but since you have the products, might as well use them! (If you decide to stay on Obagi, you can use their topical C serum in the morning before using the Clear). Hope this helps!

I have similar case as yours.
I have been using Obagi for more than 2 years. The general conditions of my skin are very good, but just with some freckles.
I did IPL treatment 3 years ago. The freckles were gone after that. But then, they came out in the same positions!! Confused
well, if i got more, I might go to have IPL treatments again.
