I've been reading a number of posts about haircare, and I've seen people mention that they wash their hair as seldom as 2 times per week!
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I absolutely must wash my hair every single day! If I don't my scalp gets itchy and my hair looks like a grease bomb. Am I doing something wrong? Any solutions? How often do most of you shampoo your hair? |

Everyday!!!
I too am a total GREASEBOMB!
Do you have fine hair? Most people I know with fine hair must wash daily. |

I wash and condition my hair every second day. it's really thick but still gets lank and greay by third day. I thinks it's one of those things that is really different from person to person though. |

Every three days. Otherwise, I look like I've put shortening in my fine (but thick hair) |

lianne -- my hair IS fine! And it doesn't help that I am an oily person in general
I've heard tricks about putting talcum powder in your hair to make it look ungreasy, but in my mind I am picturing myself with gooey paste on my scalp!
If I skip a single day of shampooing I can't even leave the house! |

It depends on how I sleep the night before. Sometimes I wake up and look like Medusa then I have to wash my hair. If I don't have an active night, I don't have to wash my hair. It seems lately that I have been waking up with Medusa hair! |

chimera,
Sebastian makes a spray that's supposed to soak up the oil in the hair and take the grease away. I've never tried it..just doesn't sound "clean" to me.
You're probably like me, total mess of a bedhead! I have found that satin pillowcases do help keep my hair from tangling so much. I'm not sure if you have that problem too. |

I used to be able to wash it twice a week with no worries - now I have to do it pretty much almost daily. I've been trying to find a shampoo that will make me go back to my bi-weekly routine but so far no luck!
Btw, don't try Kevin Murphy "Fresh Hair". It's one of those sprays that soaks up oil/dust/odour - just spray it in and towel dry your hair - all sound great if it actually WORKED! It makes my hair *way* worse. |

lianne, you have me down to a tee! When I wake up I have a gigantic rats nest on my head! It certainly doesn't help that I am a 'rough' sleeper and toss and turn all night. I even keep my hair in a braid or a bun at night to prevent having one giant knot in the morning and it is still terrible when I wake up!!
My hair is such a problem for me . . . I can't even style it and have it hold for more than 30 minutes!
OK done ranting
Mabsy, thanks for the advice, I think I will avoid those 'miracle' de-greasing products . . . I don't understand how it could work anyway. |

Just about every day, sometimes twice a day, it depends on what I'm doing. Lately I've been playing tennis in the mornings and then either running and swimming in the afternoon or riding my dirt bike. So the only way I can skip washing my hair is if it's too rainy to work out. It is naturally dirty blonde and if I don't wash it after sweating it looks really dirty.
My hair is quite long so if I'm having to wash it more frequently I'll often put conditioner on the ends then just shampoo the roots. I wrap my head up in a chamois turban to suck most of the water out of it. Then I'll use an end treatment, I like Bain de Terre Recovery Complex. |

Vegas gal: Don't flatter yourself gurrrrl
I wash my hair 2 times a week sometimes 3. I noticed the more I touch my hair the faster it gets greasier. I tried that 'talk powder' trick but it is totally not satisfing as washing your hair, doesnt come even close to that. There was a girl who had very greasy hair but finally found her herbal shampoo which solved her problem a lot. Now don't start to spank me but I forgot what she used I'll try to search for that, all I can remember is wasnt expensive and it was made of herbals.
Chimera; maybe you should try to sleep on a satin or silk pillow.
I remember that I could sleep with wet hair and wake up next morning with nice smooth staright hair but now I wake up ...like me

Chimera, it sounds like you could be my twin!!! Are you 6' tall, dirty blonde hair, with brown eyes!??
The satin pillow still makes my hair a bit messy, just not as tangled up. |

I always hear that I look like someone and I have yet to find them.
I did have a friend in junior high school who looked a lot like me, but we look totally different now...
I wonder who my twin is then.... |

I am currently shampooing once every 3 days.
For the longest time I was shampooing every other day. I pushed it up to every 3 or (sometimes) 4 days for convenience. I wash, condition, then blowdry (with brush) flatiron bangs (bangs are a must!!) and then the rest as needed. As it is time consuming...my hair takes a while to dry...it is easier to get it as smooth as possible then go as long as possible between shampoos.
If you start letting your hair go an extra dry without washing eventually it seems that your hair adjusts.
I do not have wash and wear and go hair....does anyone? On bad hair days (or days I should I have washed and did not) I do the ponytail thing! |

I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much about washing every day, I do have 'wash and wear' hair. I ususually wash it at night, let it air dry for a bit before I go to bed, twist it in a bun and then I just brush it out when I wake up. I guess there are some perks to having fine hair, but I'd give up the styling ease for the ability to wash twice a week in a heartbeat!
Oh, I'd like to add that not only do I not style my hair (aside from an occasional drop of gel), but I cannot! My fine hair won't hold a style for more than an hour. |

Chimera, I really would love to able to wash, comb and go. The thought of going to bed with damp hair and waking up is frightening!
I have some natural wave but without the smoothing of blowdrying, etc it would be frizzy and my bangs would have wings, etc.
The best I can do is a ponytail and take two minutes to flatiron my bangs. Honestly since I have discovered a flatiron I will NEVER give it up!!
Have you thought about trying to find a stylist who can perhaps offer styling suggestions? Maybe they can cut your hair slightly different so it holds a style?
Just a suggestion... |

I did try to get a stylist to help me, but they ended up cutting my hair WAY shorter than I wanted (that always seems to happen) and I had crazy layers that took way too long for me to style that I would like. Basically, I want convenience but the ability to do something special once in a while. I've basically settled for my wash-and-wear routine and I do a blow out for extra body and/or sleekness if I have some sort of event.
I am sad to say, but I'm not even sure what a flatiron is!! I probably don't need one though, since I don't have bangs and my hair is pretty simple. I actually usually trim my own hair, embarrassing as that is to say! |

My hair tends to be on the greasy side... ever since someone recommended Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo to me, I'm able to maintain an every-other-day hairwash routine... the shampoo is very minty and gives your scalp a tingling sensation, very invigorating I usually leave it on for couple of minutes while scrubbing my body... rinses off and shampooing it again... I then finish off with very tiny bit of conditioner at the tip and rinse off immediately... |

God, just THINKING about not washing my hair everyday is making my scalp feel all itchy!!! If I don't wash daily, I don't really get oily, but my scalp becames unbearably itchy(like really bad dandruff or something, though I really don't have any flakes) and so I end up scratching like some poor mangy dog!! So I shampoo everyday, even though I know it's supposed to be healthier/gentler for my hair to only do it every other day....
I guess I'm just contrary!

I am every 3rd day.. I have very long, fine hair, but a LOT of it and it takes nearly 12 hours to dry. Man, if I washed every day I would live in a world of always wet hair.
That being said, I dont use any "product" on my hair.. if I was using gel/mousse/hairspray then I would wash every day for sure. I rarely blow-dry even. |

Carrie we are sooo alike! I do wash my hair/shampoo my hair everyday (twice even). Guess what I also followed your tip about putting apple cidar vinegar to my Pureology shampoo and use cold water to rinse my hair. May I say that the color stays longer now (it has been 3 weeks since I've colored my hair). I also feel that my hair is more shinier and gentler and not as dry as before! thanks Carrie!
Right now, I'm using the Pureology Hydrate shampoo and conditioner. I have cut down from shampooing at nite (been shampooing twice - am and pm) since Ive notice that my hair is kinda soft to feel/gentler... I'm still debating about shampooing every other day, but unless I'm very very sick or bedridden, I'll shampoo my hair everyday! |

My hair is a lighter colored version of black girls hair. Its REALLY thick and course. I can go A LONG time without washing and I did before when I had braids in my hair. But I wear it natural these days so I wash it every other day or so. But its nice because when I do wash it I just leave it wet and dry natural and it turns out like Sarah Jessica Parker's on Sex and the city when she had the really long curly hair. I'm finally happy with my hair and I got it this way but just not messing with styling it. Go figure. |
