What products would you suggest for glowing (but not oily), smooth skin & full (volume) hair for a bride?
I am inquiring about skin care products such as face masks, creams, serums, etc. as well as make-up for normal-oily skin and fine hair.
Can mineral make-up (concealers) hide craters/pores, dark circles, acne scars, & uneven skin tone without looking like there is 7 inch make-up ?
There's only 3 months left for improvement, so please suggest any "fast action" products
THANK YOU |

Vitamin C serum certainly makes my skin glow ... I think I'd DEFINITELY go with that!
I know there's a review of a volumizing hair product around somewhere. I think the product started with a "P" (I know, how helpful, eh?) and perhaps "manslayer" was the author of the post?
All I remember was I made a mental note to myself to try it when I run out of the stuff that doesn't work but I already paid for! LOL - |

Philip Pelusi Mousse--mega volume mousse. Manslayerliz reviewed this product in mid-April. Several forum members have tried this with great results. Best wishes on your upcoming wedding. |

I agree, there is a pic of liz's hair 48 hours post-pelusi and her hair looks great. It isn't an old thread - you should be able to find it easily. You can also get some really gorgeous hair pieces to "up" an up-do or build on a long=haired look...Re: acneic markings, skincare, etc. You can use blotting papers or one of those oil blotter000 (i know smashbox has one) to deal with oil breakthrough on the day-of...Don't try to use minerals or any other make-up to backfill any acneic scarring - you'll end up being sorry half way through the day - it just doesn't work.....If you are looking for a rock solid quick fix for acneic scarring have you considered some restylane or perlane injections to smooth your skin? The procedure isn't any more expensive than the cost of investing in a good regime of skincare, make-up and wedding day make-up artist (which isn't to say that you should forego the latter!)..Just a thought! Maybe someone very close to you would be willing to give you an early wedding gift of some laser treatments and a round of restylane! (if you are comfortable with these types of procedures).
Happy wedding prepping!

Hi Sweet Angel! Here's a link to the review I did for the Pelusi mousse:
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=22697
I've been battling fine hair all my life and I've NEVER tried anything like this stuff so I would definitely recommend it.
Other than that, I would also recommend starting EpidermxII microderm scrub right away--- this stuff is a miracle in a jar as far as getting smooth skin is concerned. Using EpidermxII with its sister moisturizer Chrysalyx literally made my acne scars just melt right off of my face. Here's a link to the review I did of EpidermxII:

Good luck, and please keep us updated! |

My only concern with mineral makeup is that in some lights, your face may end up looking washed out - I'm not sure what ingredient in MMU causes this phenomenon, but you may not like the results. The camera flash and MMU sometimes do not mix well.
Maybe a good tinted moisturizer to even out your skintone and a very light dusting of MMU over it or a luminous finishing powder to give you that bride-y glow (which I think every bride has on her face naturally on that day!) ) and a pretty peachy-pink blush would really give you a dewy glow?

Hi Helenzwl - I didn't mean to imply that you were being negligent! .....I just re-read what I wrote and I guess it could have been interpreted as "grumpy" - but I didn't mean for it to sound that way - I hope you weren't offended!

It is the Titanium Dioxide in the MMU that is not camera friendly. Maybeline dream matte mouse is one of the few drugstore (or walmart) brands that I've found to be acceptable with the camera. Best wishes on your happy day.

Thank you so much for all your immediate replies!
Does mineral makeup really look bad on camera/video?
Unfortunately I just spent quite a bit ordering mineral make up samples from everyday minerals, pureluxe, & alima
I currently use Jane Iredale and it makes me oily within a few hours. Do you think these other brands I ordered will give me the same problem? Oh how dumb could I be
I want to wear natural make up as much as possible. Is there a MMU brand with matt finish that wont leave me greasy? |

Manslayerliz, you have such beautiful hair even before the pelusi. I called pelusi several times today but they don't seem to answer the phone. Maybe I should just order on the Internet. I am really interested in their volumize shampoo as well. Thanks a lot for sharing these tips |

Awww, sweet_angel, thank you so much! Let me know if you have any problems getting the mousse online, I can easily CP it for you. Also, please let me know if you try their volume shampoo and what you think of it. Now that Pureology has been bought out by L'Oreal I'm looking for a new volume shampoo and the Pelusi one is at the top of my list since I've been loving their mousse. |

Why not dust a bit of Jurlique Silk Dust over your chosen MMU? It goes on invisibly - it just absorbs oil. |

I really don't think mineral makeup will give you the lasting coverage you want on your wedding day.
I'd suggest a good primer and some longwear liquid... even if that's not something you'd wear normally. |

I have to agree w/Harmonster. I would try a good liquid foundation, perhaps Prescriptives or Bobbi Brown, maybe with a loose powder to set it. Something else you might want to try...I'm not sure where you live, but you might want to try a couple of nice places in the area that do make-up for weddings. Watch them very closely, and if you like the final results and have a foundation that you are happy with, purchase it for the big day. When I got married two years ago I went to two different places, and actually ended up having one of them do my hair and make-up, and even though it cost a bit more than if I'd done it myself, I was v. pleased. The only thing I had to touch up the entire day was my lipstick. Good luck, and congratulations! |

First of all, congratulations!
I'd recommend a series of microdermabrasion--it gives a wonderful glow, and can even out scars, if you get aggressive micro on a regular basis!
All the basics of good glowy health...lots of water with lemon, exercise, vitamins including MSM, alpha lipoic acid, Biosil, Vitamin C, and Hyaluronic Acid/Collagen. Eat lots of salad and wild Alaskan salmon, avoid sugar and high-glycemic carbs. If you live in a dry climate, a Venta Airwasher humidifyer is great!
A good liver cleanse and a portable infrared sauna will detox you and give you a glow.
A consultation with an independent makeup artist or two well ahead of your big day will get you some great new products and techniques. A big downfall of planning for a big event is to get a total makeover/aggressive facial the day ahead, and then you get allergies/redness/breakouts just in time for your big day
If you've never had your colors analyzed this is a fun thing to do, and you'll know what shades are best for you.
When I have a big event, I try to not wear any makeup for a few days before. Somehow, it makes skin glow! |

Ohhh..I second the idea of the microdermabrasions. They make a HUGE difference after just a couple of them. If you can get a series, that would be great, too. |

u ladies were right, the MMU I purchased just do not do the job of covering acne scars or dark circles. I am going with liquid concealer and foundation with maybe a touch of pearl or silk powder
oh, before I forget, the best thing about all the MMU I tried was the "ERASER" from PureLuxe Cosmetics. It is a cream but dries very fast.
It definitely makes my pores look smaller/smoother & skin softer. It also helps with even application of foundation. For me it works best when I apply the eraser over sunscreen and under foundation/concealer. If u have huge craters like I do I strongly recommend this product. Pureluxe also sells sample sizes.
thanks for all your advice. hope i look pretty following your suggestions |

I agree with just about everything that heather said! I would certainly not try anything new too close to the actual date, but do schedule a couple of "professional" microderms (I say that cuz i see some hair salons offering them now!), take your supplements, and go for the infrared sauna, something i'd like to try myself!
Above all, i would have your makeup professionally done. I know it's one more expense to add to your list, but they generally don't charge too much (mine cost $40 last year from a reputable artist), and it's worth every penny.
Go with someone who is known for doing weddings. Ask to see some pictures of his/her work. My girl knew exactly what worked with my skin tone and the colour of my dress, "natural white." She convinced me to go with a brigher lip colour to "pop" against the white, and at first i thought it wasn't a good look, but on the day, i've never had so many compliments on a lipstick shade!
Be sure to do a consultation prior to the big day as well. They will charge for that too (mine was $25 i think), but that is worth it too. This way you can go out and buy your own lipstick that she will be applying so that you can retouch all night.
And if you can, get some eyelash extentions! Look awesome in pics. Not sure where you live, i know they are super expensive in the U.S., but in Canada a new set is around $60 and refill is $30, this is from the actual lady in Vancouver who patented the glue for this procedure, so it's the best!
Good luck,
steffers |

That is a lot of good advice and the prices seem very reasonable too!
Where did you go for the eyelash extensions? I'm very curious to try. Plus, who was your makeup artist. Not sure if you can post the info here, but if not can you please pm me?
You should definitely try the infrared sauna. It's amazing and it does wonders for detox. It can also reduce the pore size and make your skin look healthier and glowing.
Sweet_angel, congrats! |
