I dyed my hair about three months ago and it was sucha dark colour and in horrible condition ever since. I made my own conditioner and it has made my hair beautiful, so I thought that I could die it again now it is healthy. I put a dark brown colour through on the weekend and now it has gone even darker I look like Morticha from the Adams Family I want to lighten it, the question is can I put another hair dye through my hair straight away without ruining my hair? My hair is naturally very dark with the greys coming through and it is very long. |

I think it all depends on what kind of dyes you are using. Personally I would go to a salon to get it sorted if you want to go lighter.
now first you say you look like Morticia like it's a bad thing!
Second, spill the beans on the conditioner! |

I don't want to go to the salon they are the ones that ruined my hair in the first place and we live in the country so there is not as if there is a choice.
Now the conditioner I should really put in the DIY section, my hair was awful I mean really dry and frizzy nearly at the stage where I was thinking of getting it all cut. I tried Pantene and every conditioning treatment that was available and got sick of it so made this:
Phase A:
332 gms Floral water (seeped green tea and chamomile) (83%)
Phase B
24gms Conditioning Emulsifier (6%)
4gms Olive Emulse (1%)
4gms Vit E (1%)
16gms Almond Oil (4%)
Phase C
6gms Panthenol Powder (1.5%)
4gms Hydrolized Oats (1%)
4 gms Olive Esters (1%)
Phase D
3gms Liquid Geramll Plus (0.75%)
1 gm mixture lemon EO and Fragrance (0.50%)
Heat Phase A to 75 deg C, add Phase C ingredients to wter and stir to dissolve well, allow to rest for several minutes. Heat phase B until fully liquid and around 70 deg, make sure both are around 70 deg and stir manually to combine, this will immediately become creamy and only needs a hand stir as it doesn't like alot of beating. Allow to cool to approx 40 deg stirring frequently during cooling, now add essential oils and preservative. Bottle when cold.
Now this sounds like alot of muking around but it only took about 15 mins to make and I bottled it in my old conditioner bottle and it made more than a full size large bottle and the first night I washed my hair with it I could not beleive how silky and shiny my hair was and got so many comments the next day, there was no frizz it was just beautiful even my DH was impressed and he doesn't usr conditioner but I caught him putting some on. I have been using this for about 2 weeks now and there is no build up it just deeps better. Well worth the effort. I got most of my ingredients from a soap supplier. Now if I can just fix the colour! |

I used a nice and easy brand and although I am naturally dark this looks really unnaturally dark, do you mean to use bleach straight or a product with bleach in it? |

actually i wouldnt suggest to do it your self, hon, i am a hairdresser and if you use bleach yourself its hard to know when its at the right color unless you know what your looking for, do you have a sallys beauty supply by you? |

If you are patient the color will wash out a bit in time. I would avoid bleaching your hair if you think that is has been damaged by the dye; bleaching will only further damage your hair. |

I know you're anxious, but I think it's best to wait. It sounds like your hair has gone through a lot of processing lately, coloring it now, especially lightening it, may really damage it. |

I'm not sure about dark brown hair dye, but my experience with blue/black hair dye is that it washes out with shampoo fairly quickly to a flat black. Maybe shampoo your hair often to wash the dark out might help. |
