Does anyone knows this type of fruit and/or does anyone eat it. I have "read" that it is the most power full antioxidant, but I am not familiar w/ it. Check site:

So you are familiar w/ it. I am considering to buy this also, problem is we don"t have much tropical fruits here in the Netherlands. Wonder where I can get it. |

Pipilover -- I think the antioxidant power may come from the PEEL of the mangosteen, which is not normally eaten in parts of the world where the fruit is eaten fresh. I remember it being like a bark. So you may do just as well buying the products that are made from mangosteen extract and keep a long time. Some are combined with other extracts or juices like noni. |

Just finished off the last of my mangosteens tonight .. delicious!
I was not aware that they had any special antioxidant or other benefits, but if they do, all the better as they're one of my favourite fruits. As for eating the peel though ... no thank you!
I would imagine, pipi, you may have trouble finding them in the Netherlands and if you did, they could be quite expensive ?? Plus, they might not be all that fresh as they’d probably be shipped from south east Asia. |

This is my favorite fruit EVER!!! Unfortunately, I've NEVER seen it sold outside of Asia. When DH used to live in Singapore, we had these babies with breakfast every morning and I was instantly addicted! The mangosteen "juice" sold here in the US is kind of a rip-off IMO, since it's blended with cheap juices like apple etc and doesn't really taste like mangosteen. However, if anyone in the US is curious about what mangosteen actually tastes like, Trader Joe's sells bags of DELICIOUS freeze-dried mangosteen. This is my favorite snack ever and I swear I can eat a whole bag in just one sitting. |
