Hi

My partner has had acne appear quite badly on his back recently and we are unsure as to what he could use to help with this. It does look quite bad but i think this is mainly from scarring and a few big acne spots. We are going on holiday at the end of September and he said he will feel embarrased about his back and hopes to achieve some improvement with it before we go

Could anyone tell me what products are good for helping with his spots and with the scarring?

Many thanks

Hi Hannah, welcome to EDS! Some members have posted elsewhere that using Head & Shoulders shampoo on your back/body acne helps - apparently it's the zinc content. I also recall reading that there's a soap you can get that has zinc in it, which helps a lot. If you search for "body acne", "zinc" or "Head and Shoulders" in the threads, you will probably come across this info. He may also want to try a body wash that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide - some drugstore versions are available and stronger prescriptions may also be available. (Note: this may mean he's washing his body with a facial cleanser, but don't write off this idea, as it may work best for him.) Hope this helps!

Hi Hannah , If it appear suddenly you should look at a couple of things first. Did you change you laundry soap ? Or maybe the fabric softener ? Sometime too much creamy shower gel give me those, so you can have a look at that too.
You can have a look at Dan Kern BP treatment gel and boddy buddy (witch is a towel that help you apply you back products when you don't have someone to do it for you.)

You can find these on this website:http://www.danielkern.com/

I never try those products but I heard great things about them. Good luck to your partner !!! Very Happy

Try Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash or Neutrogena Body Clear Body Scrub. That's what I use and it's the only product that has helped me. Good Luck!

Try Head and Shoulders "Classic" shampoo.
It was recommended to my teenage daughter and it has helped her body acne.

Hannah, you can use BHA (beta hydroxy acid)on the body as well. Theres not need to use a separate product for the body. A blemish fighting solution over a thin layer of the BHA will work wonders. Two of the best are at cosmeticscops.com

I found this advise from website. I hope this may help

* Wash the acne-prone areas daily using an anti-bacterial soap like Dial® or a washcloth with a salicylic acid-based cleanser.

* Follow up with a 5% to 10% benzoyl peroxide cream (the thicker skin on your body can handle it better than your face) to dry out the pimples, and then use a moisturizer with alpha hydroxyl acid to exfoliate and combat any dryness. You can also use the benzoyl peroxide to spot-treat specific pimples.

I have recently tried ORBIS 'CLEAR WASH' (for the body)and also the spray for body acne. I can see it working slowly but doubt it is 'quick' enough for your friend's requirement.

Thank you so much everyone for your advise.
Using Head & Shoulders definatly sounds interesting. Think ill get him to try that one first as its easy to get hold of. I had thought of using the Neutrogena products as we have used them before a long time ago but i cant seem to find any in the shops near me.

If the Head & Shoulders doesnt work we will get some of that benzoyl peroxide to see if that works.

Thanks again

It is harder to get rid of the scars than acne. I am struggling with that myself. For my skin is a combination of AHA and BHA that help me the most so I guess it would work for body also.

Microdermabrasion helps acne scars on the face so it may be worth a try for the body.

I make my own apple cider vinegar tonic to combat bacne. Here's the recipe - it's from one of Ole Henriksen's natural beauty books:

Dissolve one decilitre of sea salt in 5 decilitres of boiling water. Let it cool and add 25 centilitres of apple cider vinegar.

How to use: Shake well before use. Apply to a sponge or cloth and massage well into skin. Allow to dry. Repeat mornings and evenings.

Benzoyl peroxide does work in that it helped dry out the acne, but it left brownish pigmentation where the spot was...and the post hyperpigmentation looked worse than it would have had I NOT used it.

Forgot to mention that it didn't happen only on the face, it happened on my neck and body too! PLUS, it was prescribed to me by a derm!

It bleaches clothes too so be careful when you use and what area you use. I learned this in a hard way....

I think the idea of using antibacterial bodywash and a loofah is a good idea. As for scars, they have creams at the drugstore for that now. Has your partner ever considered doing a detox? It might help. Impurities sometimes come through the skin. Please write back and let us know what works. And have a great time!

Oh, yes ... be careful with that benzoyl peroxide for body acne, because you will ruin some clothes ... and you will probably be sorry you used it.

After wrecking some clothes, pjs, sheets and towels, I now use Clearasil Ultra Wipes, which have salicylic acid as the active ingredient -- and it doesn't bleach clothing. I don't use these on my face; just on my problem areas on my body. They are very effective! I find I have to wash my hands after handling them as they will dry out my finger tips.

One other thing: did your guy recently start taking vitamins with minerals? These can also trigger body acne.

I second this. But be careful, it stings like hell on broken skin ! and is quite drying.
