Hi all, En route to my house are various mineral powder suncreens - including Pete Thomas Roth, colorescience and BE multi tasking minerals which I can't wait to try. I have labelled this post a review in the hope that those of you who have tried the Pete Thomas Roth Mineral Sunscreen SPF30 can post your experiences with this product. Like does it offer good protection, shine factor, ashy look etc. I'm sure myself and several others would really like to hear reviews from current users. I want to be really prepared for summer this year and don't want to take any chances of re-hyperpigmenting. TIA Dips

I just got this last week. It does not have any color (at least not on my face). For this reason, you don't really know how much you are putting on or whether all your face is covered. I use this mainly as an additional layer to my regular sunblock. So far no regrets in buying it.

I am very, very curious about these new (to me) "powder" sunscreens - but I worry a tiny bit about their safety? Lavera's website used to have a blurb about this that I now can't seem to find, but it basically said that the minerals in physical sunscreens are harmful if inhaled, and have to be properly encased in oil or liquid to be safe.

This makes sense to me, because as an amateur sculptor, we're always taught to be super-careful about inhaling the mineral dust from the rocks we sculpt, especially the really fine dust created by power-tools. My favorite sculptor actually died of lung-related complications from inhaling too much rock dust. What a way to go!

So I guess I'm curious if anyone has any info on this - because these powders do really intrigue me, I'm just not sure how safe they are. Skin Deep might have more info about this too, but I just thought I'd see what other users thought. I'm curious to try the PTR or Colorescience sunscreen powders, I just don't want to breathe in stuff that's bad for my lungs!

(Sorry if this is too much of a hijack - if you want let me know and I'll start another thread.)

Hi Ginnielizz, No prob with hijack and very interested in this myself so no need to start a new thread. Actually makes sense the inhaling part, the powders should be arriving soon so maybe I should hold my breath when I apply? Good tip Smile

I usually apply it at the end of my work (before I go outside) on the top of my regular sunblock.

I have been using this everyday before I leave to go home after work. It goes on very easily. Not sure how much protection it is giving. When I went to take my makeup off at home - my skin felt as though I was wearing proper waterproof sunscreen Smile - had to cleanse twice to get it all off. But my skin didn't look like it if you know what I mean. It goes on matte - almost too much if that is possible? Think this is a great idea - hope PTR brings out new shades.

I have been out of the product loop for some time so I had not heard of these poweder sunscreens. Please post your experience with these. Living in southern california you run through sunscreen faster then anything in your medicine closet so I always interested in the newest things. Very Happy

On my trip to LA, the airline lost my bag for four days, and I was without many of my staples, including SS which is NOT cool down here! (I had a teeny Dr. Hauschka sample in my purse for on-plane use, but my full size products were checked.) While we were touring around, my dear boyfriend spotted a Sephora and I went and bought this powder stuff, since I'd been wanting to try it anyway.

I really both love and hate it - if you apply it lightly, it feels and looks like you're not wearing anything at all, but I don't trust that to give me enough protection. So I shake the brush repeatedly and apply with a pretty heavy hand, and it looks obvious and thick and matte and powdery-beige - but I do think it helps protect, and it's nice that it helps mop up grease and sweat in this 100+ degree weather. I'm super concerned about inhaling the powder, so I try really hard to breathe well before and hold my breath until a few seconds after application to avoid sucking it in. Don't know if this helps, but that's the one thing I'm freaked out about with powder sunscreens.

All in all, the fact that this stuff has such a non-sticky texture is the real winner for me. My boyfriend is super-picky about having any kind of product applied to his skin, but he'll let me apply this on his face, and he likes it okay - we both use it to put around our noses and temples so we don't get glasses tan-lines. Smile

I like it as a take-along that I can add during the day over makeup if I'm going to take a walk or be caught out in the sun. Agree that it's pretty cakey if applied with too heavy a hand, but a light once-over gives me some protection (I hope).

I just tried the new sun screen(urba dry) from them,it has really powdery feel , after applying a small amount, I feel really heavy on my face. I am very sensitive to smell, I don't really like the smell of the product, smell like plastic,I can hardly use any on my face, but it is a bit better than most drug store brands

Powder sunscreen sounds like it won't make your face shiny. Sounds intriguing.

i have the Jane Iredale Powder me SPF. which is a powder based sunblock contains titanium dioxide as main ingrediant.

On it it does say to be careful when putting on near the nose area so u dont inhale the stuff.

To avoid inhaling this, what i do is i close my mouth and stop breathing lol while im dabbing this on near the upper lip and nose area. lol
I guess it works. But i have to be careful as sometimes i see powder flying in the air when i dab this stuff on other areas of my face...careful in terms of it doesnt get in my eyes as well as i dont inhale this stuff.

But well i think i just need to figure out a good way of applying this and it be sweet Very Happy

Is this the one that comes with a retractable brush?

It's great but like what the others have said, I just can't tell where the coverage is and how thickly I need to appply it to get the SPF 30 factor.

The powder is actually on the INSIDE of the brush wad which makes it even harder to know how much I have applied. What I have taken out all the powder and put in into a dish. When I apply it, I dip the brush into the powder. That way, I can see how much I putting on.

The colour is on quite translucent and should go well with most skin tones.

Has anyone tried the newer formulations? There's one for oily/acne prone skin, one that's anti-aging which looks as if it's being discontinued, and one that's a higher SPF (45, I think). I'd be curious to know if any of these are less orange-colored!

I recently tried the powder with the built-in brush. Like others have mentioned, it is very hard to figure out how much has been applied. And, if you keep applying, a beige-ish tone appears. My fear with this product is that I am applying to my face in different amounts and will end up unevenly "spotted" from the sun.

I've also tried this powder mineral sunscreen but I tend to use it over my existing physical sunscreen to take the shine out it and to help set it better. It can be a bit messy and I agree wearing it alone you have no indication just how much you have or have not applied on your skin.
