I used to take a multivitamin, but lately I've been sensitive to zinc (nausea, and if I don't take it with enough food, vomiting). So I stopped because I can't find a multivitamin without zinc. Does anyone know of one? I recently started taking some calcium because I know how important that is. I also take 2 HA pills a day. I buy those bottles 2 at a time! |

My dailies are:
food-source "green" multi-vitamin
MSM
CQ-10
Alpha Lipoic Acid
Vitamin C
Guduchi
Praval Pisti
If I feel I need something else on a short-term basis, I will take it, but I tend to take less vitamins in the summer as I do in the winter. In the winter I add more vitamin c during flu season & flax seed oil, as my skin tends to get drier in the winter. |

Are you 100% sure it's the zinc? I ask because I have this same problem and when I mentioned it to my mom, she said it's probably the iron. When she was pregnant with me her doc put her on supplements and she couldn't stomach the iron. After I switched to a low iron multi I haven't had a problem since either.
I don't doubt that people have problems with other supplements such as zinc, magnesium, etc., but if you haven't found a multi without it then that's why I thought I'd ask how you know for sure that it is indeed the zinc and not something else. |

Thanks for responding! Actually, the way I found out it was the zinc (it could be iron, too, though, I have a sensitive stomach) was that I started taking zinc by itself for acne. The first 2 or 3 days I got really nauseas a little while after taking it with a good breakfast. Then one day I took it with just a little food and a little while later threw up soooo bad. And then immediately felt better, finished the day at work no problem. So I stopped taking it. Then one day a few weeks later I tried to take it with a LOT of food and still got pretty nauseas.
I took a prenatal vitamin from GNC for awhile for hair growth and I had to take it on a very full stomach or get sick. Also One-a-day Weight smart did it to me. Does anyone know of a connection between these? Do prenatals have a lot of iron or zinc? I feel like I should be taking something, but I'm a little vitamin shy now. Anyway, I'm sure zinc causes me problems, but maybe iron does too. I might try a low iron multi. Thanks! |

I got sick too when I used the One-a-day Weight Smart. I think it was that Green Tea ingredient. The same thing happened with my friend. You really have to take those pills on a FULL stomach.
Which Zinc supplements did you take? I'm currently taking Zinc Citrate 15mg, three times a day with no problems. I take one with each meal. |

Shantel,
Sorry it took so long to reply to your question - but I haven't checked this thread in days b/c I forgot I even posted on it!
The Guduchi & Praval Pisti are Ayurvedic Herbs to help balance the doshas. I don't know how familiar you are with Ayurveda & doshas,, but I am Pitta (Fire),so Guduchi & Praval Pisti are cooling herbs (well, praval pisti is coral, not an herb really), to take to help balance the fire. |
