Forgive me for double posting this...I meant to start it as another topic, but accidently included in another discussion.
So....I talked to my local compounding pharmacist about making me a fresh batch of C E Ferulic serum since it will cost so much less ($60) than buying Skinceuticals version. She is going to make it exactly like the original and I found the ingredients listed on a website but I'm not sure what "4x MED" means.
Ingredients:
0.5% ferulic acid, 15% C and 1% E, and 0.5% ferulic acid and exposed to 4x MED.
Can anyone help? |

I think MED means Minimal Erythemal Dose, a measurement of UV dose. Erythema is the reddening of the skin due to sunburn etc. 4x MED just means the CE Ferulic serum protects the skin 4 fold against UV-induced Erythema. |

Thanks Isanine for letting us learn something new here.
So it's not an ingredient but something similar to spf index. |

Thanks for the idea mountaingirl. I hadn't thought chemists would be willing to do custom skincare. |

Cuppre....I'm assuming you are in Europe since you call a "pharmacist," a "chemist." In the USA we have compounding pharmacy's that are not the same as a regular drug store or pharmacy. Compounding pharmacy's will custom make a product for you. The one in my town made my 20% C Serum for me after I told her what I wanted in it, so I approached her about the CE Ferulic. (Apparently it is the Ferulic Acid that makes that serum so pricey.)
Do you have this type of pharmacy where you live? |
