Dear EDS Forum,
I have never been so distraught over a cosmetic procedure in my life. I decided I was going to get rid of some age spots on my chest, hands and arms....it turned our like a nightmare. Please use a reputable physician. I am now devastated to try again.
In a nut shell I had Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments, and I am going to try and send you the pictures.
A specialized medical device delivers a series of pulses of light to the skin using settings that are customized to skin type and skin color. A series of five or more IPL treatments are performed at three-week intervals. The benefits of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) are consistent, visible changes from the first session, with little discomfort and minimal risk.
The light is changed to heat energy as it reaches to the level of the collagen beneath the skin surface. Red blemishes from broken blood vessels and brown spots of pigment from sun damage respond to the gentle, yet, Intense Pulsed Light. All this sounds great, but wait until you see the gruesome pictures. |

DerbyCity, I'm sorry you had a horrible experience with the IPL treatments and I'm sure we'd all like to see your results.
You need to 'host' the pictures on a site like Photobucket.com. Upload them to your Photobucket account and just copy the URL Link in your post here at EDS and the pictures should show up.

I dont believe in laser for any kind of treatments and frankly those people that administer it are hardly trained!!! All these spas and beauty treatment places have gotten into it but let me tell you that people that administer it probly have had 1-2 week or just shown from the supplier how to run it they are hardly trained very properly to adminster the thing properly. I go to this beauty treatment place and i was glad the owner bought it for her places and all but i would never try it she was obvisouly excited to tell me about it and how she is going in to see how it works and all before she buys it as you can see then shel purchase and then teach it and test in on herself and other staff before administering it on people. I had laser hair removal administered not same place another beauty therapy clinic and let me tell you they were hardly trained!!! Al this new people coming in as staff and administering the thing no wonder i had a worse experience too. Anyway im sorry you had to go through what you did derbycity, just stay away from laser and if possibly try other safer methods. |

Hi Derbycity
I had a bad outcome with IPL, too.
I had IPL about 4 years ago to treat sun damage on my forearms and chest. The IPL device left rectangular burns on my arms and I was worried that people who didn't know me well -- such as coworkers -- might think that I was into self-harming. Fortunately, the marks eventually peeled and went away, but I think I wore long sleeves for a few months to hide the problem.
The person who did my IPL was a plastic surgeon, but I think it might be more difficult using these devices on parts of the body other than the face.
I hope you are doing better, today.

Sorry to hear your bad experience derbycity. I was considering IPL too and I went for for a consultation before but the cost has deterred me so far. I dont know how long has been since your treatment. I do remember the place I consulted told me should expect some minor darkening of the treated spot right after, even with scalping. It will fade within weeks. You need to be gentle with the area you just treated, avoid hot water and sun altogether. I am hoping this is just a phase for you, beautiful skin will be revealed after all this. |

I am sorry to hear your bad experience...
I've been treated with IPL treatment yrs ago with good results! my dermatologist told me that there are a lot of different types of spots and some of them cannot be treated with IPL... and some might even get worse from IPL! but since all these spots look quite similar, non-professionals (meaning non-dermatologists!) might not be able to identify them. Thus, it's much safer to go to reputable dermatologists for these kinda treatments!! |
