Are all of our members in the UK OK? Wow, I just read that the RAF has been called in to help with search and rescue.
If I could, I'd call some of that rain you're having to Southern California. We're desperately short of rain, the weather really is so inequitable... |

Hi
I'm really lucky, I'm 50 miles from London and the Thames that's threatening to burst it's banks, I'm on the South coast but not in the area which has been affected by the floods. They also hit up North last week. We have more rain due for the next week! Where is our Summer? Last year we had the hottest Summer on record, this year it's rained nearly every day for 2 months! It's really depressing!
My heart goes out to the poor people that have been flooded, as if that's not bad enough, they don't have any running water or electricity. |

Nothing here yet, although our nearby rivers are very prone to flooding and it's looking pretty high at the moment. A friend a few miles away was flooded out, though, along with her neighbours. They were unable to leave their village for quite some time. Thankfully, they're all safe now.
I think other parts of the country seem to have it much worse at the moment. I read in the paper that 1 million people have been affected. |

With the government wanting to build 2 million more houses, makes you wonder where they're going to go? Surely after all the floods, not on more flood plains??!?
I would certainly never buy a house near a river or flood plain now. |

Goodness only knows, sarah. Apparently, they're also planning on letting the waters reclaim some low-lying land too. So many people, so little habitable land. |

I have been watching the floods on the news and it is just hard to believe that something like this is happening here in the UK.
I am lucky to live in the North on a hill and nowhere hear the floods, the only thing that effects us is lightening.
My heart really goes out to anyone who has had their home flooded, especially when you hear that people have no basics like drinking water.
Everone will feel this, the insurance companies will all put their prices up, food will go up again so any flood victims will suffer even more.
What ever happened to Global Warming? |

Hi!
I live in Gloucestershire and it's been pretty hard here. I've been ok so far but my folks who live 20 miles away have had no running water since the weekend and have all been coming to mine to have showers and do their washing etc. They have power although its been intermittent.
The main problem they have had is the children have broken up for summer break and have been deliberately contaminating the water bowsers (when they actually have water in them!) with urine or bleach or other nasties. (Little S*ds).
My poor horses are grumpy and miserable, fields are boggy and muddy and we have a hay shortage already as the farmers haven't been able to make any yet so winter is going to be hard and expensive! (A small bale of hay is usually a max. £2.50 a bale some farmers are now charging £6 IF you can get them to part with it.
It's a nightmare.
Its also sooooo depressing it raining all the time - I have had my SAD light on in July! |

Lucia I'm gobsmacked that kids have been tampering with the water bowsers?!! I suppose with them being out in the open there is a risk of that happening!
On the News tonight they were showing the poor farmers (who have a hard enough time trying to make a living as it is), with completely ruined crops, so fruit and veg costs are going to go up again and one RSPCA guy said there has been literally hundreds and hundreds of animal deaths which you don't think about but I guess they couldn't get away from the floods. How depressing! |

I know I couldn't believe the kids where doing that - I don't get the mentality of them at all!
Yep - where I live is pretty rural and the local farmers are really struggling.
My friends OH is a Fire Chief and has been involved in the mission to save the power sub station in Gloucester and also rescue of livestock/horses. Some horses have just been abandoned too. There was a news story yesterday of a lady in Teweksbury who gave birth to twins at 21wks, in her flooded home - the emergency services couldn't get to her so the RAF flew in but they were too late and she lost them both.
We also have food shortages - bread, milk and bottled water are hard to get and the shelves n our local Tesco are bare in places including stuff like wet wipes and hand sanitizer.
Hard to believe it's all happening really. |

I just saw on the news this morning that they had to empty out a few huge water bowsers because of the contamination - it's hard to believe that anyone can be so thoughtless at a time like this! I know I must sound like an old fogey, but some of the kids today really are little monsters - I genuinely despair at where society in the UK is heading .
Glad you're still ok though Lucia - I hope your folks get their water back on soon. I feel so bad for everyone who is suffering through this. |

Hi
I live in Yorkshire which is in the North of the UK. We was hit pretty badly by the rain a few weeks ago. Whilst i was lucky and my home didnt get flooded, the street next to mine wasnt so lucky and people had to be evacuated from their homes. One of my work colleagues homes was ruined. He lives in a bungalow so everthing in his house has been ruined. Its so devastating.
The weather has been so crazy lately. We havent had a summer yet over here in the north of the UK as it rains just about every day.
We all need a bit of sunshine to keep us happy dont we?

Little brats! I would have had a skelped hide for that - not that I'd ever have even thought of doing something so destructive and horrible. |

I found this link that keeps track of flood areas in the UK http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/flood/floodwarning/
I can't believe it's STILL raining in some areas, this is crazy! People of the UK, you're in my thoughts. |

It is such a shame that so many are suffering.
I will be thinking and praying for you all.
I live in Oregon,USA it is rainy most of the year,so I can understand the gloom.
I hope you see a rainbow soon and the bright warmth of the sun.

I too live on a hill - in the North West. We're very lucky to be up here and we haven't been flooded, but we have lost our phone lines twice: the first time for a week (junction box hit by lightning) and the second for 4 days (junction box flooded). This is not a complaint - so many people have been devastated by the weather and my heart goes out to them... just a reply to the question about communications. |

Thanks for all your kind wishes. Although I have been lucky so far not to be affected myself, it's very sweet of you to worry about everyone over here.
BTW I've heard that some of those who were flooded out are demanding that the bosses responsible for flood defence policies donate their 5 figure bonuses towards improvement of the flood defences. Can't say I blame them! |
