Is it BHA or salicylic acid? Or something else? I am not finding regular exfoliation enough and need something to get these blackheads OUT!!
Any suggestions? |

I have had quite a bit of success with Mandelic acid although I can't leave it on like some folk can - I leave it a minute or so and then rinse it off - it can make you a bit peely but not the type that leaves you pink - it's superficial. My pores always look clearer and smoother afterwards. Found it much more effective than any other ingredient/acid.
There are quite a few old threads on here if you do a search.

I usually do gentle extraction and then wash my face. I also use the mask from Principal Secret once a week and that has helped a lot. |

I would say salicylic acid is best for cleaning out pores and keeping them clean but, you would need some sort of exfoliator for dead skin cells so that the SA can penetrate. If you are oily a good clay mask in your arsenal will also help keep them at bay. If your problem is returning or deep rooted regular facials should help move things along. |

Hi Racheal, BHA is salicylic acid. I find BHA is the best ingredient for keeping pores clean inside and out. To prevent blackheads from forming, use jojoba oil to remove makeup. Jojoba oil closely resembles human sebum and will help to "melt" oily build up in your pores. Follow up with BHA to keep 'em clean and use AHA to exfoliate. PSF acne mud mask is a great overnight spot treatment or weekly mud mask.
Or, you can make your own mud mask by mixing up 100% bentonite clay [Brand name is Aztec Secrets, found in any healthfood store] with a touch of organic ACV and yogurt. Yogurt will add lactic acid to the mix, another great exfoliator. I prefer the PSF mudmask to my own concoction since it contains sulfur, which really works well for my skin.
HTH,

A really good product I've stuck with is Beyond Belief Clean Pore nose peel. You can get it at Sally's Beauty Supply. It contains salicylic and lactic acids, as well as tea tree oil. It really keeps the blackheads away when used regularly. I also use it on my chin as an acne mark fading peel. It's the best! |

I didn't have good luck with this product at all. It seems to have the texture of rubber cement upon application; after it tried and I went to peel it off, it definitely left my skin red and irritated. I still have almost a full tube of this and not likely to finish it. |

I don't know about you people... but there is NO SECRETS in getting of blackheads than keeping your skin "clean"... as much as we take a bath everyday for our normal daily routine, same as with the face for blackheads.... maintaining a good lifestyle will also help...
Cheers everyone!

Hi jade, it's correct that getting rid of blackheads involves keeping your skin clean, but it's a matter of how you keep your skin clean. What products will actually clean pores and surface for each skintype while maintaining the proper balance?
While I have no doubt that drinking plenty of water, eating the right foods, getting plenty of rest, reducing stress and a positive attitude contribute to overall health and skin beauty - in addition to all this, it's a matter of finding the right products for each individual skincare type and needs. |

I totally agree. I cleansed and toned my face twice a day and used masks almost nightly, but still could not get rid of my blackheads. It wasn't until I started applying a salicylic acid balm on my nose that the blackheads disappeared. |

It's BHA that goes through the oil and cleans out the pore. That's the ingredient you want to look for in an OTC product.
There is a product called Differin that's RX in the USA but, I think, OTC in the rest of the world. It's a form of Retin-A but targets plugs in the skin. It's the very best.
Manuel extraction is also very important but don't force. |

I've been using LRP Effaklar K for the past 6 years to rid my knows of blackheads and have been thoroughly pleased with it. There is a distinct fragrance though that might take some getting used to. But a 30ml tube can last me for more than half a year and it's really affordable too. Definitely one of my salicylic acid HG product. |
