I used to use it a couple of years ago. But now i dont use it anymore and i dont see any dramatic or negative effects on my skin. Anyway most toners are alcohol based on stuff.
I havent used one for now 2 years, and i dont see the point seeems like it is an unnesssary step in skincare routine.
so mine is cleanse and moisturize.
but maybe you all can shed some more light on this? Also which toner you use. |

I use Obagi toner, I think it's way overpriced for a toner, but I love its smell so I keep on buying it!
I read it somewhere that the purpose of the toner is to restore your skin to its right pH balance (I don't know what's right and how to determine whether our skin is more on the basic side or more acidic... *shrug*) so that your skin can absorb the other products (that are supposed to be good) better...
For me, I just use it because it makes my skin feel nice and soft after wash, and I use it to dissolve Aspirin to make my Aspirin mask!
Anyone has a more scientific answer?? |

I use Decleor Tonifying Lotion. Sometimes I apply with a cotton pad but if I'm lazy I'll just put some in my palm and splash it on my face and neck. To be honest, I'm not sure what it does for me, but I like it. My facialist told me that toner "prepares" your skin for the next step in your routine. |

I have been wondering about this too. There seems not to be too much stress on the importance of using the toner by even the various skin care brands themselves. One recent use I have discovered for toner is to wet the sponge for applying cream-to-powder type make-up (I'm using Shu Uemura Depsea Water Foundation (cake type)). Makes it more sheer and natural . |

Its an optional step. Some women like the extra step but is not crucial in the scheme of things. |

I think it's impotant for skin, it can completely diminish residue and your skin is clear and skin can absorb any cream or lotion very well. |

Toner closes and tightens the pores that are opened when cleansing the face.
I use Decleor's tonifying lotion however much as a fan I am of Decleor, the best toner is using rosewater. Keep it in the fridge and apply it with a damp cotton wad after cleansing your face. It soothes the skin and smells divine too.
Once I finish my decleor product, I will stick to the rosewater routine.
I think it's okay to skip the step of toner once in a while but as a rule, it is good and important to use the toner. Rosewater is not expensive. You could get it in any chemist shop.
Toners which have alcohol in them are a no-no for skin. It harms the skin. |

I'm a toner addict!! I'm prone to breakouts and clogged pores, so I use a toner to get every last bit of residue from my face. However, I agree that you want to avoid most of the alcohol-based ones as they will just do more harm than good.
My current fave toner is Zenbiotic's Oxytoner. You can buy it atwww.zenbiotic.com . It's cheap, alcohol-free, and very soothing! Here are the ingredients:
De-ionized water, organic raw apple cider vinegar, aloe Vera, pure lemon extract, mint extract, chamomile, rose, horsetail, rosemary, gum weed, wormwood, plantain. |

Okay, when I apply toner with a cotton pad, it almost never comes away clean. Does this mean I'm not washing my face clean enough? Or is it residue from my cleanser? Tonight I washed my face with a foaming cleanser, then used DHCC, then took a shower. I applied toner afterwards and the cotton pad still had a residue on it. Am I just not doing a good job of washing my face? |

I'm another fan of rosewater as a toner. It's cheap, pure, effective, refreshing and smells wonderful, so is a real pleasure to use. |

I use a lotion - cleansing lotion from decleor to clean my face. I apply kohl, lipstick and at times mascara. I do not apply any foundation or blush-on.
I take the eye and face make-up off with the cleansing lotion. Then I used to wash my face with an face wash but now I skip this stage and find no difference i.e I used to clean my skin too much. I complete the process by using the toner. My kohl still comes off slightly more when I use the toner. It doesn't matter.
Schang, if you use make-up, then I find the foam cleanser is not enough. The toner finishes the process of cleansing.
I use damp cotton wad both to take the cleansing lotion off and apply the toner. This saves on usage of the toner. |

Thanks Vidisha Lala! For me it's not so much makeup, but sunscreen. I'll try my oil cleanser tonight to see if I get better results. |

I really like Dermalogica's toner. It comes in a spray bottle and it feels quite soothing to the skin. |

i think toner is impt as it serve as a double cleansing to your skin and tighten the pores too. |

Schang, if your face reacts well to the oil cleanser, fine. If not, then, you might have to use a face wash or something on those lines, to get rid of the oil based cleanser.
All the best! |

I do worry about sunblock if that comes all off from the cleanser . I will try and introduce toner in my routine.
Will rosewater from the supermarket do? |

Any rosewater will do (i think). It should be a pure rosewater i.e not have other ingredients. |

What I do, I use a cleansing oil, THEN a foaming cleanser, then I use toner. The cotton ball always comes away clean.
I myself love toner. I don't buy expensive ones, though-- I like PSF and Alba toners. I just like the way they feel on my skin, and how they make it feel extra clean. |
