A splurge earlier this year saw me the owner of a bottle of the OSEA Ocean Lotion (body lotion). For those who do not know of the OSEA brand, it is a brand of sea-based <minerals, seaweeds and algaes> ingredients blended with various carrier and essential oils and made without chemicals and harmful additives.

Ocean Lotion is a pale mint-green body lotion (but no mint content) that comes in an easy to pump 6oz (180ml) frosted bottle, retailing for US$26. The bottle is very heavy, but it is quality packaging, a good quality pump and easy to hold or just pump whilst sitting on the table.

Now, at $26, it is not the cheapest of body lotions but a little goes a looong way. It is very easy to apply with a beautiful slip (a lot of creams/lotions tend to drag across the skin and you end up having to apply too much). It sinks in almost immediately and has absolutely NO greasy feel either when applying or afterward. Even when I was perspiring in the Tokyo summer heat 20 mins after application there was no greasy feeling on my skin. A huge bonus as far as I am concerned.

The other benefit of this lotion is that it is unfragranced, which means it wont interfere with the fragrance you choose to wear (ugh, cannot stand having multiple fragrances on at once.. deodorant, body lotion, perfume, hair care... yuk!). Anyway, I was a bit surprized at first because I somehow expected there to still be some kind of natural scent, but there is basically nothing, nada. And unlike a lot of fragrance-free products it does not have that horrible chemical smell that comes from not masking some of the natural oil scents (Babor is one fragrance-free range that comes to mind that stinks).

I am going to give this lotion an 8/10. I am taking off 2 points for price and the heavy bottle (definately NOT something to take on vacation with you). That being said, I would most definately repurchase this. It is just lovely to apply and keeps the skin hydrated (though maybe something a bit stronger - like their body oil - might be needed in very dry winter months). But the real seller is the ingredients. A beautiful list of oils and not a paraben in sight! Dancing

Benefits/ Features (spiel on the website): Red Algae Gel base leaves skin soft and silky. Rich oils of Macadamia, Kukui Nut, Sesame and Rosehip ameliorate texture of the skin. The perfect base for fragrance elitists, Ocean Lotion soothes the skin and helps maintains a suntan.

Ingredients: 100% Natural. Red Algae Gel Extract, Sunflower Seed Oil, Cetearyl Glucoside (Coconut and Corn Emulsifier), Macadamia Nut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sesame Oil, Avocado Oil, Kukui Nut Oil, Shea Butter, Palmitoyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Rose Hip Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), L-Lysine Lauroyl Methionine, Laminara Extract, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hydroxymethylgycinate (Amino Acid), Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate.

I'm always looking for things with no fragrance or at least very little. I feel the same way about too many perfumed things on the body, and I try to stay away from overloading and layering tons different smells. UGH!
This product sounds like something I would really like! Very Happy

it's a store in los angeles (on melrose) and santa monica (on broadway). one of the best for high quality skincare (and really expensive/trendy clothing). got my dr. hauschka there way before anybody else carried it. people not in southern cal should look at their main site:

Tiger Tim,

Thanks for reviewing this product! Clearly, you aren't as utterly amazed at it's effectivity as I am--but make sure to save a little of it for those hard winter months. Right now I am using any old body lotion because the humidity is taking care of my skin but in those hard winter months in Chicago, Ocean Lotion really softens the skin instantly. And I'm talking callouses on the bottoms of my feet-gone with one application. And hydrated all day. I ration it for this very purpose. And whenever I shave--it's the most soothing body lotion EVER.
I cannot get enough and wish they would find a way to make it a bit cheaper!

Hi avalange, I dunno, I am pretty darned happy with the stuff. I usually hate body lotion because they never seem to sink in nicely or leave a "nothingness" feel on the skin, but Ocean Lotion does.

Maybe my feet are more jurasic in nature than yours Laughing but the Ocean Lotion does not cut it on my dry heels (but the rest of my feet feel lovely with it, especially after a Cellcosmet foot scrub). On the rest of my body it is just lovely, truly a rare gem for the humid summer. It will be a definate repurchase me thinks (unlike the red algae mask)

PS did you see the other Osea reviews I did? Interested to hear what you thought of those products....

I'm curious, how exactly does Ocean Lotion "help maintain a suntan"?

I have to agree that this is a very nice body lotion. I have two bottles of blended EOs and am very tempted to add some to the Osea lotion for extra benefits as it's unscented and the ingredients are all natural. Would that be OK? Confused

i think i'm going to have to try this...i especially love that's it's unscented & i always have the worst time finding body lotions that deal with dryness & sink in nicely.

CK...i'd say, add away! i usually try to buy body lotions that are unscented (& as natural, of couse) so i can add my own e.o. to suit my tastes on any given day.

I don't see why not! Most EOs have antibacterial/antiseptic properties!

keep me posted--you now have me thinking of dumping some rose otto in there!

you know, osea USED to have THE MOST AMAZING scented lotion, literally EVER. EVER. EVER!

And it did not sell well because it didn't smell that great out of the bottle. But on the skin it was tantalizing, and people always noticed.

When I used it I could not FEND the men off of me. One guy who I was dating once actually could not contain himself as he sat next to me, he exclaimed, "what is that SMELL?"

And my current boyfriend also remarked that I smelled inexplicably delicious when I wore it.

And I used to use their bath oil, same scent, that just transported me into happy, delightful oblivion.

Apparently it was a secret potion, but I know it was heavy on apricots and artemesia.

OH HOW I WISH THEY WOULD BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!

it was called "passion," but the newly reformulated passion has lots of white flowers in it, and i cannot stand it.

This is my eulogy to that wonderful product. Osea, bring it back!!!!

The old formula sounds fabulous, avalange. Have you tried emailing them to tell them of your disappointment? The new one wouldn't suit me at all - florals do absolutely nothing for me.

Ok, I'm going to be honest here: I bought this lotion, but I totally expected to be unimpressed by it since it's hard for me to imagine a body lotion that could actually be worth $26. Well, this one is worth it! It's everything that TT said and more--- I just can't believe how silky and satiny my skin felt last night after applying it before bed! I also like that it's unfragranced, and I dumped in some lavender essential oil which worked out quite well. I will DEFINITELY be rrepurchasing this--- thanks for the great rec, TT!

VS-- I got mine at beautynhealth.com. They offer free shipping on all Osea orders, so that's what swayed me.^-^ I also like that they offer travel sizes of the Osea products.

Now that EDS has OSEA I am getting mine right here! And they also have the travel sizes. I had gotten my first one to try from at the site mentioned above; however, they did not offer one for dry skin at the time. I got the sensitive skin, although with all the products I have tried from Forum members my skin is really normal now. From the sensitive travel kit I LOVED the Ocean cleanser, the mineral spray is pleasant, but I can do without it, I think. And the essential oil roll-on was okay, but with my newly normal skin Smile I really don't need it. I really loved the Atmospheric cream also, but got a small sample of the APC and think that would be best for me. So now since EDS got OSEA I have re-ordered the Ocean Cleanser, got the Eyes and Lips cream because my eyes always need cream. In September when I go back to my real life in the city, I am planning to get the Advanced Protection Cream. As you can see, I love most of the OSEA products!!! And I am delighted that mostly thanks to Avalange I found them and that EDS wisely got them. I have yet to fall for the masks, but I don't do masks much and I am forcing myself to use up the one I have from Guinot before I succumb to more OSEA. This ended up like a review, but I did start out just reminding people that EDS has it. Long-windedness is one of my occupational hazards, please bear with me Very Happy

Thanks for the reminder, EL! I'm so impressed with the Ocean Lotion that I plan to order more Osea products, so when I do I will definitely order from EDS and take advantage of my discount!
