I was just wondering if a shower filter is good for someone with acne and sensitive skin? I've read that chlorine (from swimming in a pool) is good for acne. I also know that the water in my area is chlorinated and that shower filters remove chlorine. For my situation would a shower filter be bad?

If I have it backward and a shower filter would be good for me, can anyone recommend one?

Thanks.

I don't think chlorine is good at all for your skin. It may dry out your acne but it probably ruins the Ph balance of your skin - perhaps creating a persistent cycle of acne. If you are looking for a treatment for body acne, do a search on EDS regarding using Head & Shoulders or Nano soap for this.

I definitely think you could benefit from a shower filter if your water is heavily chlorinated. I got a Wellness shower filter. Expensive (usually $250 - I think I got it for $150 on Ebay) but makes a big difference (Philly water is heavily chlorinated and dries out my already dry skin). The Wellness shower filter has numerous levels of filtration to it http://www.wellnessfilter.com/Products/Shower.asp

Next best I thought when doing my research is the Aquasana shower filter which is less than $100. BTW, the Jonathan Antin Beauty Water product looks like it uses Aquasana's product and just changed the label [although I've heard online that the Jonathan filtration is a bit better but much more expensive for the "name"].

Since installing the shower filter, I notice a difference in my hair (less dry) and skin (don't need as much moisturizing as before) --
as you can tell, I have DRY hair and skin Embarassed

There are some EDS threads on shower filters already with some recommendations that you might want to check out as well:

In the long run, chlorine is a bad chemical to be soaking up all the time.

If it's acne on the body you're worried about, try AHA body washes. I've started to use Head and Shoulders shampoo and that helped keep the pimples/acne I had on my back at bay.

From our work with international humanitarian aid in the 1980s, we became acutely aware of pure water as a precious, life-sustaining resource. Where waterborne bacteria pose a tremendous health risk for people in developing nations, chemical pollution is a primary concern for people in industrialized countries...thanks

I agree with the other posters: the chlorine is drying to skin.

A shower filter can make skin and hair softer, smoother. Shinier hair and less itchy dry skin were noticed immediately when I bought a shower filter years ago and I've kept up on it. Currently I have the Jonathan brand filter, it's fairly affordable and free amazon shipping.
