Since I've started learning more and more about beauty and makeup tricks on EDS, I've realized that I don't have a clue when it comes to many brushes and applicators! I recently started using a brush instead of just my fingers to apply concealer, and now I get much better results. So I'm quite sure there are many other makeup application tricks that can be improved with using the right brushes in the right way - but I have no idea how to do that.
For example, I only recently learned what one of those thin, angled brushes is good for (brow powder, woo!). So I'm wondering, does anyone know of some kind of website that teaches you what brush is used for what purpose (with specifics, not just "this brush is for foundation", etc.)? I think it would be really useful. And I'm sure some of you on this forum know more than me, but I aspire to become more of an expert (and to use all the brushes in the sets I've bought in the past!).
I found a few alleged tutorials online, but none really seemed that complete or helpful - one seemingly promising YouTube video turned out to be more a comparison of different eyeshadow crease brushes - very in-depth but a little too specific for my needs! And there were tutorials for photoshop/art generation, and tutorials for how to paint realistic make-up on dolls, haha, but nothing for human faces that I could find. I'm sure it exists and I just am not searching effectively. Here's hoping someone else can point me in the right direction! |

I don't know of any websites, but I just recently learned what a lot of them are for from the Lauren Hutton Face disc/brushes (I bought the brushes). All of the brushes are color coded for what product to use and there's a DVD too that makes it really simple. I learned how to a contouring brush, sheer conccelear brush (different than a concelear brush), what she calls a pooch/nose brush, brow brush amongst others. It gave me an education anyway! |

I think it is all personal choice, especially with eye shadow brushes as ppl have different shape eyes.
However if you haven't check out specktra.net tutorials you should as they often demonstrate what brushes are used to apply what products and how.
Also Makeup Alley can be helpful if you are willing to find time to read the reviews . |

Ooh, cool, I'll have to look at spektra! I'm an MUA member only so I can see the full thing when EDS folks link to a page there - I find it really exhausting to get through their forums for some reason. But hey, it's still a good reference to have, in case I find the time and patience. Thanks! |

I think I've spent half the day browsing through the tutorials at specktra.net - the detailed step by step photos were really interesting. |

I don't actually browse the MUA forums, just the reviews.
But specktra.net is definitely your best bet. Learnt so much from that site and it caters to all skin types and facial structures. |

This was, in fact, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! Much easier to navigate than anything I'd found elsewhere. Yay!
