Makeup line for very yellow skin

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not. My coloring is very yellow. I'm not Asian, but I'm at least as yellow, if not more yellow, than most Asians, and have very dark brown hair. So I'm wondering if I would do well to pursue Asian cosmetic brands like Shiseido. Are these lines formulated with yellower complexions in mind, or am I just making a silly assumption? I seem to have an awfully hard time finding good lipstick colors, etc., and wonder if I'd have better luck with this tactic.

Hi Amber! I'm not an expert by any means...I'm still not sure if my own complexion is more yellow or olive Confused

But I do believe that Asian brands tend to be formulated with more yellow tones in mind. Kanebo and Shu Uemura are a couple that come to mind as having some nice foundations. Also, alot of mineral makeup retailers offer a wide choice of colors and samples are usually inexpensive if you needed to try a few.

Also, another way to go is to try a corrective color base to cut down the yellow tones in your skin. These are becoming increasingly popular and alot of brands are carrying them now. hth Smile

Believe or not, purple plus yellow equals white. You can try Anna Sui's purple hued powder.

if you like mineral makeup or are willing to try it, i suggest Alima. Their Gs are super yellow. i have golden undertones and Alima is the only thing i've found to match me exactly.

I recommend you the purple lipstick,the brown color lipstick can not match your skin tone.

I also think not try to change color too much when you choose foundation.your yellow skin must be attractive if your skin grow radiance. Smile

Amber: you can consider trying mineral make-up. Some brands have a lot of range of foundation powders to try and find best match for your skin colouring. For example,www.everydayminerals.com orwww.meowcosmetics.com. You can try samples until you find a combination that suits you. Meowcosmetics have a lot of yellowish shades with varying shades of beige, peach or pink combined. You can also counter the yellowish colouring of your skin by using "cool" colour foundation. The mineral powder foundations are not bad, the coverage is buildable and most companies have a range from light to full coverage powders. And formulations to cater to dry as well as oily skins.

Having just viewed Meow Cosmetics' website, I am amazed by their variety of shades!

Thanks everyone. I've tried mineral makeup and all of you are right, there's a great range of yellow shades, but unfortunately it makes me look like craters of the moon. I have lots of rolling acne scars and MMU produces a horrifying effect!I'm not really concerned with countering my yellowyness--I mean, the rest of me is yellow, too, so I want to match--I just want to find a foundation that really looks natural and won't make me break out.

Bobbi Brown foundations might be worth a try, as they tend to have yellow undertones. I used them for years (although I’ve now switched to MMU) as they were the only thing I could find that worked on my hard to match skin tone - I look European, but I’m part Japanese, and my skin tone (and eye colour) seems to look different depending on the light.

I have used Bobbi Brown in the past. The powder and concealer were a great match, but the foundations all made me break out. I have such sensitive skin, I'm afraid even to try anything new.

I use to use bobbi brown foundation/concealor as well, but have since moved on. Bobbi Brown has alot of yellow in their foundations. You could also do a custom match over at Prescriptives. Aromaleigh MMU (http://www.aromaleigh.com/arvmifopo.html)has a great color selection for yellows & you could also add in warm or linen to custom match to your skintone.

I do sympathetize with your experience of MMU, it is not easy to hide pores and scars with it. A lot of Chinese girls use MAC Studiofix liquid foundation, the NC shades have yellowish tone, matches our skin quite reasonably and also helps to counter the redness from those irritating acne scars. Good coverage. I have also used Clarins Lightening Touch foundation which is cream to powder, they also have a yellowish shade, this one is good for oily skins as it helps to mattify.
