Hi, I have been doing Obagi NuDerm for 2 weeks. Just recently I read I could do under the eyes. I started doing everything in the regimen EXCEPT the exfoderm forte but I do use half gram of blender with .1 tretonin and I also used it under the eyes. Also I purchased the elastiderm eye gel which I put on in the morning. Results? The lines under my eyes are 100% more pronounced! it is very dry and sort of hurts (just like when you start Obagi though). It this normal? Will it just peel eventually to reveal a new beautiful me? do i need some kind of moisturizer? I am going to a party on Saturday (kind of snobbish) and I don't want to look 10 years older! So far, everything else is good. My dark spots are getting better and my skin is peeling but okay.
Help!!!!!! |

Marie, just back off around the eye area until your party is over. This is the normal reaction, to get very wrinkly looking. You can use your Obagi Elastiderm all around your eye area and that should help somewhat! |

Rileygirl: But in general, it is good to use it close to the eye area or under the eye area?
I'm in the same position in that I am using it right up to the undereye area as I figure that some of the stuff creeps upwards anyway but right now when I smile the area around my eyes looks way worse- like I'm a hundred years old!!!
But will that get better or do I back off? |

Hi, lily. If you feel too dry/wrinkly, you can always back off and maybe use it like 2 days a week around your eyes, and slowly work up to daily if you can tolerate it. You can use the Elastiderm eyecream and that will help with the dryness around your eyes. My nurse recommended me to use the products (clear, blender/Retin A) on my eyelids as well, but it burns on the eyelids and I can't use it there. It is safe to apply close to and under your eyes (just don't get it in the eye!). And, Yes, the wrinkly/dry look will get better as your skin adjusts to the retin A. Hope that helps! |

Hi there Rileygirl! As always thanks again for your advice. I already put it on tonight (must be a glutton for punishment) or I really want to see the results soon, who knows? I will however back off on it starting tomorrow if I see that it looks worse than today. Is this for the wrinkles around the eyes? I wished I would've bought the elastiderm cream as opposed to the gel but Oh well. The vote is still not out on that one. I don't see a difference. The only thing that feels soothing is that after the sunfader #6, I have been using their other sunblock I think SPF 35. It feels really smooth and sort of like a moisturizer. Again, thanks for the advice. Marie.
( I would love to post a Thank you for you but I either don't know how to do it or I am not allowed yet. |

You're welcome, Marie. I can't help with the "thank you" as I am not sure what that is! I was using the Obagi elastiderm cream, which is soothing and moisturizing. I did not see any difference in wrinkles though, but I only used it 8 weeks, maybe that was not long enough. I think for the wrinkles, it can take a long time for improvement! |

Hi Lily and Rileygirl,
I am happy to report that although I still look 100 years old the part that looked like little corn flakes yesterday peel off last night. That part which was right on the corner of my eyes and out looks way nicer!! Right under my eyes still looks pretty wrinkly but that was just like what the outside looked before, so I shall continue with the punishment. Thanks for the encouragement Rileygirl and Lily, it is nice to know I am not alone and a whiner. |

Nickeygirl,
You mean I should stop using it? I think it is starting to work? Are you using it around the eyes? |

Hi Mariel and Lily!!! Just wanted to give you some feedback even though I'm hoping you are through the worst of the "uglies" with the Obagi process!! I have done the process several times (aggressively at first in my late 20's b/c of LOT's of skin damage) and then more as maintenance. Every time I do it I get that same panic about my skin and wrinkles getting worse! As far as your undereye - YES use it there!!! Again, like the great advice you got from Rileygirl, back off when you have a function etc. I was peeling like a lizard, in fact my boyfriend at the time called me "lizard face"!! LOL! But I am sort of a "all or nothing girl" and wanted to see results! And I got great results!! So hang in there. You don't have to be that aggressive (and I DID NOT USE aggressive approach around my eyes just for the record!) In fact, I would not take this approach again b/c you really can't go anywhere without people mistaking you for one big cornflake ha! ha! Use the cream around your eyes at night 3 x a week maybe to start and use a good moisturizer in the a.m. and to "dab" on throughout the day! Also...NEVER pull a flake off especially on RetinA - u will be asking for more pigment problems!! Some professionals will tell you the eye area is too sensitive.....but right now i have an amazing experienced professional who uses it under her eyes and she looks amazing (well into her 50's) Also, play it by how sensitive you are and I've been recommended to alternate at this point between retinA and Vit. C (as long as it doesn't sting you) now that I am in a "maintenance" stage for the next 10 months or so. I am 38 and my skin is great - but the main concern is around the eye area.....isn't that where fine lines show up first?? My skin care professional says it doesn't make sense not to treat the area!! Just listen to your skin and it's sensitivity level!! A little drying is just showing you your skin is reacting and yes it is being transformed!!! Woo Hoo!! Don't stress (causes wrinkles )and just view your current state as evidence that you are seeing results!! Take care! Groovychick |

Groovychick, that was a very inspiring post! Could you please tell me what you do in the maintenance phase with obagi, once you are finished with the 18 weeks? I have not spoken to my nurse about this, but am curious what products you use and how often during the week on maintenance? Thanks so much in advance. |

Hi Rileygirl! To answer your question, my idea of "maintenance" is to back off to a lower percentage of RetinA (.5% vs. 1.0%)and use it every 2nd night alternating between that and Vitamin C Serum. Sometimes in the summer I back off the RetinA completely for a few months b/c of the sun. This summer I have used it faithfully however (1st time in years!)I have built up a nice tolerance even though I would have said a couple years ago I have supersensitive skin (I had hormonal issues and lots of stress which has been reduced greatly so I'm sure that makes a difference). As much as I hate wearing sunscreen b/c of the way it feels and the chemicals I wear it everyday on my face/neck/hands/forearms etc. (don't forget the earlobes!) to avoid pigmentation which I am prone to b/c I am half-spanish. I also wear a very simple organic daycream and eye cream with very few chemicals for the day (made by Avalon Organics and available at drug stores - cheap!) I'm a bit of a health nut and research many of the ingredients in the creams that are out there. Your best bet for straight moisturizing is a nice organic cream made from natural products and hyaluoric acid (spelt wrong?) if you can find it to retain moisture. Stick to your treatment creams in the evening as that is when your skin is renewing anyway and many creams do not tolerate light/sun well anyway (break down quickly) so it is a waste to use them in the day. Again, diet, exercise and water are all important too. This fall I am going to experiment with a new product with Copper Peptides as I learned here on the forum that it is a good treatment for those of us who are developing those pesky little skin tags which have started to surface on my neck Not cool. Anyway - hope that helps! Also, repeat a mantra that you love and accept yourself just the way you are - it really helps me to see my inner and outer beauty when I look in the mirror! Take care! Peace! Groovygirl |

Thank you groovychick. So, you alternate A and C during the night. Do you ever use the clear, blender and/or exfoderm in your maintenance, or have you stopped that totally? Thanks again for your time! |

Hello again Rileygirl! In regards to the Obagi line, I no longer purchase the clear or blender (way too expensive!!). Again I got a great tip from a girlfriend who is an esthetician. Now I buy full strength (4%)hydroquinone over the counter at the pharmacy for $17/tube and it is pure hydroquinone (Glyquin - over the counter name) which is the active ingredient in "clear". I just mix equal amounts (pea size) of that with the RetinA and use that instead of the clear or blender. If I am correct I believe the blender cream is just that (a basic cream blender for the RetinA). The one purchase I would probably splurge on again is the exfoderm, but now I just use neostrata if I want to have the assistance of a cream for exfoliating which is what I use in the summer if I am not using RetinA. If I recall you don't want to use the two types of acid at the same time. Really though I don't even need it when I am using the RetinA and a nice face brush which I use several times a week. Hope that helps! Good luck! Once you know what the active ingredients are and what they do it is easier to select the absolute essential products. I would rather spend my money on a good Vit. C serum, and most recently Copper Peptide and a new hydrating cream called "Dremu" containing emu oil. As far as I'm concerned, RetinA, hydroquinone and Vitamin C are the way to go (and maybe a glycolic or salycilic acid) which is the exfoderm (like in the summer for example if you don't want to do the RetinA but want some treatment) Hope that is not too confusing!! I guess you could say I don't even use the Obaji line anymore!! Just follow the process with prescription (RetinA) and over the counter ingredients (hydroquinone)!! Take care!! Ask me in a month how I like the Dremu and Copper Peptide cream!! |

Oh, I understand. You are not using the obagi anymore at all! I have tried to do the substitute thing before when I tried Obagi around 2 years ago, unfortunately for me, I did not get the same results as I am getting now using all the Obagi products. Thanks for the help! |

For the 1-2 weeks, your skin will feel like "wrinkly", but it will improve.
Also your result is because you put too much!
put just a small pea-size.
Cheers

What ever happen to groovychick? I'd like to hear how she liked the Copper Peptide & Dremu emu oil?
I just started Obagi line and have been reading everything I can. |

Hey MrsDowFire, I'm glad to hear you got your Obagi set in and have started. What do you think so far?
Thanks for pulling this thread up by the way. I read everything I could find on Obagi when I started but missed this one. I do put the Obagi products in my undereye area and am seeing improvement there. I definitely have days of flaking right under my eyes which looks funny but once the dead skin comes off the smoother skin underneath looks so nice and fresh. |

That was the reason I was reading more threads today. I finally received my order yesterday-it took 2 weeks. I started it last night and used it this morning. I'm following the Protocol I read on the Obagi site but I was interested in the eye area and whether to be using the products under or on the eyelids? I was wondering whether I should have
any eye products for day/night.
My face is maybe a bit red today is all. I am wearing makeup and hope I can continue to wear makeup while on this. |

I did use a cream on the outside corners of my eyes and the corners of my mouth the first few weeks because the skin there got dry and cracked. Now I still use an eye cream occasionally but not every day.
By the way, did you get the kit for oily skin or dry/sensitive skin? I've been using the oily one but recently bought the dry/sensitive one to try out the gentle cleanser and regular exfoderm since a couple of the products in my original kit were getting a little low. I received it today so I'll try it out tonight. |

I ordered the dry/sensitive kit. I normally don't have oily skin. |

Good luck with it and keep us posted. I still love reading about others' experiences with Obagi. |

MrsDowFire, you can definitely use the obagi under your eyes and on your lids. I would not use the exfoderm on the lids, but you can use the clear if you need that, and especially the Retin A and blender. Go slow on the lids, though, maybe just a few times a week to start with to see how you tolerate it. |
