my bottom lip takes the stain beautifully, but my top lip just will not accept the stain at all. It's almost like the skin is impervious to the stain so i have walked around sometimes without knowing it with a coloured bottom lip but a naked looking top lip.
What can i do? |

I often had a similar problem, until I started using better stains with darker pigments. What type of stain do you use? I always had the problem you describe when using Benetint, but now that I'm using Vincent Longo stains, they stay put MUCH better on both my top and bottom lips. Also, I find their wand applicator is much better at depositing color evenly around your lipline without causing mistakes, so that helps.
Also, I've found that it's important to really exfoliate the lips first - I use a mix of olive oil and sugar and scrub scrub scrub, then wash it off and apply my stain. You need to make sure there is NO oil on your lips, otherwise the stain will not adhere properly - I wipe mine with toner before applying. It's OK to apply an oil-based product for moisture after you apply, but right before they should be "stripped". Hope this helps! |

I have a VL stain bu it's the wrong colour so i don't use it.
I'll have to take another trip to Sephora to get a better colour and try again. |

I just got a bunch of their stains, and one of them is totally wrong for me, it's deep and purplish on me (Angel's Touch). Any chance you want it? I'm going to try returning it tonight so lay your claim now! The colors of theirs I love are Liquid Kiss, Cupid's Breath, My Sunshine, and Baby Boo. These are the ones that don't show up too deep on my fair skin (though I do have to apply lightly and blot right after I apply). |

thanks for the offer but it sounds very dark to me too! I have fair skin so am looking for something fairly natural looking.
I'm going to check out those other colours you mentioned so can you tell me if one of them has a peachy tint to it? I'm not familiar with the colours just from the names so if you have a favourite peachy natural you could recommend, i'd like to check it out next time I'm in Sephora. |

Hehehe, you and carekate need to hook up, she's been on the lookout for a peachy stain forever! I don't know if you'll have luck with the VL ones - they're sadly more cool-toned, at least on me. The only one that's even remotely peachish is My Sunshine, but you might give that tester a try - I have found so far that all the colors are really quite different on different people, so it may be very distinct on you from what it is on me (mostly reddish on me). Also, you might want to peruse the lip stain thread I started a few weeks ago to see if you can get some other good suggestions from there - it's here. Good luck, and take care! |
