Just want to share my "Secret Weapon". I've been using dietary supplements for a while now for skin care and have noticed some surprising results: Longer stronger thicker hair, strong nails, and plumper moister skin with fine lines plumping out and deeper creases fading.
*I should add that I use BabyQ and L&R Dermaroller and L&R products, but this has helped with arthritis pain and hair growth, so doubt if it's just the topicals responsible.

MSM 1000 mg/day
Vitamin C 1000mg/day
Hyaluronic acid 100mg/day
Beta-glucans in the form of Epicor 1cap/day
Coromega Fish Oil packet 1/day
ActiveNutrix by Zenbiotic
Lots of pure water

Don't mean to sound like an infomercial, but I wanted to share my results and see if anyone else has a "secret weapon formula". Nanci @NCN also rec the vitC and MSM along with her CP to boost skin repair.

HTH! Very Happy fawnie

I take MSM and the Coromega Fish Oil also! Love the Coromega packets, makes life so much easier. MSM has also been very helpful with my allergies.

Thats a great list of supplements.
I love and take MSM in capsules 1,000mg.
VitC and cheap Walmart Hair,Skin & Nails. It has 3000 mcg of Biotin.
I vary with Evening Primrose,Flax and Omega'3's
and want to get a good source of oil when I finish off what I already have. And drink lots of water, trying now to quit Coke and all sodas.

I would recommend rayandterry.com supplements. I especially like their fish oil and it agrees with me and does not cause those awful tasting "fish burps". Their ingredients are very fresh and I have read some of their books which I find fascinating.

CFC: I'm glad to know MSM might help with my allergies now that ragweed season is here! Thanks!

SKA: Yeah, thanks for reminding me about Biotin. Very Happy I forgot to add that to my list!

It sounds like a lot, but once I got in the habit, it's not so much. I like to think I'm preventing damage B4 it occurs.
I'm also a fanatic about SS now. Sofina Lucent is wonderfully lightweight and powerful.

I'm going to buy some Sofina but saw that they have several sunscreens- Nuance up, UVV cut etc. Have you used them before or just the Lucent?

BTW- all those supplements you're taking...how do you take them? All in one go or in separate times of the day cos you're taking 6 kinds!

L & R????
any particular kind of HA?
and will you share your source for the coromega and activenutrix and beta-glucans? I have my fingers crossed that you found these easily all in the same place.

kd: Leaf&Rusher. Some larger Bath&BodyWorks carry it, but I bought fromwww.Leaf&Rusher.com cuz they send samples, s&h is free if you spend a certain amount and they don't charge sales tax for IL orders.
I wish I COULD find a place carrying all of it, or better yet, a supplement that contains it all. You could Google "Epicor" - several places carry it, tho it's usually ~$30/month @1cap/day. Helps with immunity too.
ActiveNutrix is fromwww.zenbiotic.com - it's the only place I know of that carries it.
Coromega fish oil is available from iHerb.com and some drugstores and healthfood stores carry it too. HTH
YeahYeah: I stagger the pills, except MSM,HA and VitC which I take together. The HA is just the cheapo kind from iHerb.com. Some HA already contains the MSM but is pricey that way.
I've only tried Sofina Lucent. It is sheer, not white, and disappears instantly into the skin. Makes a nice makeup primer too. I apply it over L&R products and wait about 15 min before applying foundation.
I also take calcium and strontium for bone health (these 2 have to be taken at different times). The list gets longer every time I read new info!! You'd think I wouldn't be hungry with all the supplements, but believe me, you do get used to it!

Hi, just replying to your skin/hair supplement tips........i may pick up a few products. I also use the gel version of Silicea (you ingest it) by Hubner and swear by Macasure (organic Maca root extract) capsules. This last one balances your hormones and overall great for well-being but have noticed no "stress" breakouts in my skin!!!

Thank you fawnie!!!

I take quite a bit of stuff, but anything that improves immunity is top of the list.

Was taking a multi oil supplement that has Red Currant, but I think I may be allergic. Little spots here and there. Time for a change in my oil selection so this is perfect timing.

Takes me hours to take the pills . . .

LOL
Cool

Rileygirl: I've been taking them for at least 6 months, but the ActiveNutrix is recent: 2 months. FrequentSea by Zenbiotic is a liquid antioxidant formula I have recently added - it has frankincense! Hey! it helped preserve the mummies!!!
Groovychick: Macasure - that sounds like something I need to try. Those hormonal breakout are fewer and fewer since I quit dairy and meat, but don't want to suffer the ravages of menopause...do you think it would help that? I'll have to look into it, it sounds interesting. tx fawnie Wink

I noticed in KD's signature that she is a breast cancer survivor...I think there is some controversy over whether taking hyaluronic acid internally may be risky in people with a history of breast cancer.

I myself have decided not to take it until I get more information and feel reassured (I haven't had BC myself, but my older sister did so I'm extra careful).

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! I tried to stay on top of what I can and should or shouldn't have. This is great info.
I noticed you said "internally" . . . I am putting HA on my face and you haven't heard anything about that?

I am very grateful for the heads up BBD.

I'm not sure if this is my secret weapon or not. LOL But I am starting to take the GNC Hair, Skin, and Nails and GNC Nourishair. On top of that, I take 1,000 mg of Vit C, and fish oil I got from Trader Joe's. I also am trying the ToCoQ10 from Vitacost. Hoping for the best results.

I noticed that whenever I don't stay up late and get a good 8 hour sleep, my skin looks plumper and I can't find lines on my face. When I stay up and don't get enough sleep, I can see my skin is not glowing, so sleep is a huge deal.

kd, there is no concern about using it topically, so don't worry about that.

There is also no reason that I can see to think that HA increases the risk of breast cancer, just that if there are tumor cells present it might be a growth promoter. I took HA internally for a couple of months for lip plumping and to see if it would help my dry eyes, and I'd definitely be taking it still if it wasn't for the potential concern.

But thankfully, it's fine ON your face. Did you know that flaxseed oil (internally) is supposed to be good for those with BC?

Hi Fawnie, you are definitely a "supplement" girl like me. Just so you know, I recently turned vegetarian and have been off dairy for awhile. I had MAJOR hormone problems that manifested in every which way, shape and form. It was b/c of this that I got tested for food sensitivities and watch what I eat so carefully. Additionally, I get "tested" for every supplement I put in my body to ensure they are compatible. I started taking the Macasure (by Sequel) about 6 months ago in addition to "Vega" as an organic/pure food TOTAL meal and protein supplement. I can honestly say I have used tons of supplements and products to help offset various things from skin probs to energy issues and I swear by these two products. Within a week of using the Macasure I needed at least 2-3 hours less sleep and woke up ready to go!!! Also, the primrose oil really helps with the hormone issues. The Vega is a great way to get tons of nutrients and quality protein especially because I am a very active person!! Hope that helps Smile I love the products so much I would work for the company....and if you knew me - that's saying alot! Check out the website and read the story about the creator of these products....he's got a couple extremely helpful books about explaining nutrition as he is a Vegan triathlete!! I believe his name is Brendan Frasier (maybe a "Z") and the dot coms for the website should be "macasure" or "vega" or "sequel" I'm sure there is a sight for all three! This guy knows what he is talking about as I have done tons of reading on nutrition and health. Stay healthy & take care Fawnie! p.s. I like the Berry Vega best - it is the easiest to take with water!!!

Thank you BBD! Yep, take Flax Seed Oil both in pill form when I don't have the time to make my morning shake or in the oil with high lignan content in my shake recipe: yogurt or kefir, fresh fruit, flax seed oil, juice plus capsules (throw in the capsule and the blender chews is up - used to open each capsule and pour them in, but have gotten lazy and didn't make a difference - LOL) and ice and yum.

Anything else you hear/heard and feel free to share. Great info.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hi Groovychick! Yes, I take VEGA too. Great stuff when I just don't have time for a real meal. And you're right - the guy who invented it looks pretty fit! I like that it's vegan. I found it at Whole Foods, but have ordered the largest size from his website. Do you find it anywhere else? I'm interested in that Macasure now...
BBD: thanks for the headsup about HA. Since some of it is derived from chicken's combs, and all the hormones they are stuffed with, I'm going to delete that one! Why take a chance? I found that the fish oil helps with dry eyes too- Coromega is guaranteed free of PCBs and pure. One caveat: it can cause bleeding problems, among other things, if overdosed tho, and certainly anyone on blood thinners should be careful.

Hi!!
this is the first time I have ever put anything down on a forum, normally just read everything with interest, but thought, hey, I wanna join! So here I am. I have been reading with interest about all these supplements, has anyone tried Natures Plus Age Loss? I spotted them on another forum and they got a good review (only one so far mind you).

Hi Emsie and welcome from me too! Feel free to chime in anytime you see something interesting!!
Can you tell me what's in the NaturesPlus formula? I need just one giant pill with everything in it!
Gracedhy: Hang in there!!! It takes more than 2 wks to turn it around. I'd say it took me a good 6 months to grow nails like iron and hair like rope!!! Seriously, be patient and consistent, there's no magic bullet; pills only do so much, it takes effort with the whole lifestyle I think.

I take alot of supplements for my skin, but by far the best is, if you take 3 - 4 capsules (1000mg) a day of evening primrose oil you will notice a difference in your skin in about two weeks, supple, and ohh so dewy! and your period mood Mad is so much nicer Very Happy
