I've been doing this for a couple of weeks. You need: moisturizer, water, honey (optional), a bar of natural soap, and a pump bottle. You dilute a moisturizer (a simple inexpensive moisturizer, or perhaps a moisturizer that you want to get rid of) by adding water and honey to it. And also anything else you want to add to it- lemon juice, green tea, fruit juice, niacinamide, turmeric, etc. The diluted moisturizer becomes a light lotion that's in a pump bottle.
After rinsing the face with water, apply some of the lotion, massage it in. Without rinsing off the lotion, wash with the soap! So the soap mixes with the lotion. Then just wash everything off. |

Hi Nimue,
I like this idea a lot..
for me, in the winter..I probably wouldn't even need to add the soap.. if I added honey..and perhaps some kind of herbal infusion, like nettle, and perhaps a little algae! |

I've done something similar to this for a while and found it works beautifully. I splash my face with lukewarm water, massage in a small amount of oil, sorbolene or cold cream and then immediately massage on some soap lather. I wipe this off with a wet face cloth and then splash my face well with more lukewarm water.
I need to use oil or cold cream to remove makeup and sunblock, but by themselves they are far too oily for my combination skin. Using a small amount of soap lather dissolves this and removes it really easily. I find this a lot easier than the OCM and far less irritating. It also keeps my pores clean without stripping my skin of all its natural oils. |

I think that would work too- it would basically be a DIY cleansing milk. You could leave it on as a mask while you shower and then wash it off last.

So I guess my method isn't that original, but it's good to learn that it's a good one! I also like the idea of OCM but I don't want to do it because it sounds like too much work. I also wanted to start using some natural soaps, but on their own they're too drying.
