I just got 1L of lavender hydrosol from my friend. I want to use it as a toner and also as part of a mask. But I wonder if anyone has used hyrosol as a toner and how it has worked?

Thanks!

One more question: I heard that aromatherapy products expire quicker after they are opened, but I can not remember how soon it will expire, so I will appreciate a lot if someone can give me a clue. Very Happy

Most hydrosols can be used as a toner and for mixing into masks, in fact I use it all the time. Lavender is very "all purpose" so it can be sprayed anywhere (except the eyes!).

If the hydrosol is pure and not adulterated it should have a pretty long shelf life. I always put mine in the fridge to keep it fresh.

Miranets, thank you!
I do also get a spraying bottle from my friend, I will try to use it as a spray in the office. The hydrosol is made by Oshadhi, and labelled as 100% pure. Hope it will last long.
I will place it in my fridge soon for sure.

I use a hydrosol to set mineral makeup but not as a toner. I really like it for that purpose. I get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs.

i agree with the suggestions above for keeping the bulk of your hydrosol in the fridge & decanting into a smaller bottle. just keep your eye on the hydrosol...give it a good sniff every so often, if it smells really different or weird it may've gone off, or if you notice any sort of floaties, it's gone off.

lavender is generally a quite stable hydrosol, so you shouldn't have any problems with it going off anytime soon.

i love using all different hydrosols for toner...right now i'm combining rose, cucumber & tea tree hydrosols.

That is exactly what I am doing. The lavender hydrosol controls my oil very good, and I like this toner.

My friend told me that she mix up various hydrosols such as Lavender Chamomile Witch hazel Rosemary etc.. She apply with cotton wool and sometimes she splash it on her face or mist it as a refresher in the day.
She said this toner works a treat.
No alcohol which can do nasty things to your skin.

I use both rose and Neroli hydrasols as toners and to just spritz my face as a refresher. They both seem to firm things up a bit, and make layering other products easier.

Another distinction to make is "floral water" and hydrosol, I have seen some companies sell floral water which is in fact just distilled water infused with an emulsifier (polysorbate 20) and essential oil.

I absolutely love my rose hydrosol as a toner. I also pour some out into a spritze bottle for a facial mist after applying makeup or throughout the day when I need a pick up.

I use lavender hydrosol as toner for many years. I used to got breakout very often, and after turning into essential oils and hydrosols, I seldom have breakout now. I use hydrosol from Green Valley, and skin products from Jurlique and Base Formula.
