I very seldom use eyeshadows (but would like to buy them Rolling Eyes ). When I do use them I use Laura Mercier eyeshadow base which works very well to transform my not-so-even-color eye lids into a canvas ready for the eye colors. This base comes in a tube form which looks like a lip gloss. I use a pink color which when I was in a hurry one morning I mistook for a lipgloss Shock .

Most popular is the clear Urban Decay Primer Potion. Gets very good reviews on Make Up Alley.

I also like MAC Paints since that has a wash of color and helps to intensify eyeshadow colors. I want to try the paint pots though.

Anyone know of another product that can double as a base? I.e. concealer or lip balm or something? I'm cheap so I'd like to try it out with something else first. :P

Depends on why you need the base. I need mine because i get super oily eyelids in my crease area so a concealor would serve no purpose. But if you just want to even out the skin tone and provide something for the eyeshadow to stick on, I can see why concealor or foundation can't work.

Maybe even just a light layer of powder. Works for me. It decreases the eyelid oil just enough.

I had the Urban Decay primer and I couldn't get the hang of it. It was crazy dry and what I put over it looked cakey and unnatural. The powder option
is better for someone like me who is makeup technically challenged.

I think that your UDPP was old. This happens when the tube has been opened for a while.

REALLY!! That would be a bummer. I remember I ordered it directly from them. Sometimes that happens, getting a bad batch of something and then thinking the product is meh.

I really like Armani's Skin Retouch. It's a concealer but works great as a base for eye shadow.

I'm almost afraid to say this because there are so many folks here who hate Clinique products, but I love their Touch Base and Touch Tints for eyeshadow bases. The Touch Base, even if you don't use a powder shadow over it, does not budge or crease at all. I find that even my gel eyeliners stay on better when I use one of these first. Some of the colors are really neutral, so they can be worn like a base for any color eyeshadow or alone.
