Hello!
I am out of my aromaleigh foundation and BE and my GloMinerals color is too dark (I bought it in the summer) so I'm in the market for a new mineral foundation. I would love to hear your recommendations. I have enjoyed the following...
Bare Essentials
Glo Minerals
Aromaleigh
Neutrogena
Physicans Formula
What is your favorite? I have winter dry/oily tzone/cystic acne prone skin. I need good coverage and I need it to last ALL DAY. I have very pale/greenish skin and need to cover dark circles. Yikes...I sound like a monster! |

I use J.Lynne but that's mostly because I have a great color match. I thought PureLuxe was nice but limited in colors.
I'm itching to try Alima and UGloGirl (see review threads of each). |

I think everydayminerals is worth a look-see.
they've added an additional finish (to the three they already had: original glo, semi matte, matte) called intensive for more coverage.
their foundation bases seem to cover yellow, neutral and pink-ish tones.
very generous sample sizes for the cost of shipping.
I think there's a few positive reviews on makeupalley, too.
... and the price is right. |

My fave so far is definitely Alima. It's more matte than BE, and the colors are much better for me than Everyday Minerals. The CS is really great on their site, and so are their brushes---- SO soft and luxurious that I want 2 of each! |

I second that. Personally I like Lily Lolo the most, but if you're looking for a good coverage, Everyday Minerals is probably a better choice. |

I've tried Aromaleigh, PureLuxe, philosophy, and Everyday. I love Everyday. Good color selections and the different foundation types allow for all skin types. I like the Intensive or the Semi-Matte. Sometimes I mix them. |

I love Pure Luxe, the samples are cheap and a great way to get an idea of the color. |

I've tried EM (intensive) and Alima. Comparatively I got a perfect color match (well as perfect as possible) from Alima. EM is dryer and more cakey - I apply both exactly the same way and same amount but EM enhanced my flakes more and gets cakey VERY easily (perhaps due to a bad color match?). Alima is also very helpful and will do custome blends so you're bound to find the right shade, with EM you will have to end up buying 2 full sizes for blending so Alima will end up to be cheaper. Alima has better staying power - it really adheres to my skin unlike EM which rubs off VERY easily. EM matte has almost no staying power for me and both intensive and matte makes my t-zone oily more so than usual. Alima on the other hand keeps me matte longer than usual. I also prefer Alima's finish - less shine than EM intensive but it's not an oily sheen but a slight glow due to the Titanium Oxide. It also covers my pores while EM enhances my pores. However EM is always coming out with new products which is worth a look, but in most aspects I prefer Alima.

Another vote for Alima. Coverage, color, texture, quality, seems to work better for me than other brands i've tried: BE, JI, EM, Lauress. |

Is it only me? I have been a long time user of Pure Luxe (too lazy to try other lines) and recently ordered full size Alima products. I did not find any huge difference in terms of texture and feel, though Alima does offer better foundation colours (Pure Luxe does not have a yellow based foundation colour, I have to use the colour corrector). |

I love Alima also. I have Everyday Minerals, but rarely reach for it any more. It just doesn't seem to cover well enough for me (I have matte and semi-matte) as I have a lot to cover up I tried the Everyday Minerals Intensive for extra coverage, but the shade that I wear in the other formulas went orange on me. For most days, I wear Alima, which for me feels creamy with good coverage. When I need extra coverage, I wear Melange. Alima has great color selection and great customer service. Hth.

I think I need to order some Alima. I've tried BE and EM but both make my pores look larger than they really are. Does Alima do this? |

In my experience, no. I have tried both BE and EM, and I think that they are, for the most part, formulated to have that "shine" factor that is pretty on some but pore-showing on many (me!). Alima is not dead-looking matte, nor is it shiny on me. I never need to buff it on; I just brush it on lightly, adding more coats when necessary, and it looks very natural, not pore-size-enhancing.
Hth!

Thank you. This sounds good especially the part about not needing to buff. |

BE is my favorite. (Well, I guess I should mention that it's the only mineral makeup I've ever used-- I love it, so I've never felt the need to buy a different brand).
Olivia, have you ever tried their Well-Rested for eyes? I just started using it as it came in a kit I purchased from QVC. The product has well-rested and bisque in the same pot. I used to just use bisque around the eyes, but the well-rested really cancels out any off-color shades around the eyes-- I have bluish and reddishness. |

I've been pretty happy with Everyday Minerals, especially now that they came out with 100% silk dust and balancing finishing powder [cornstarch makes be break out]
I still think my pores look larger, so I'll probably order samples from Alima. For those of you who have used both lines, can you tell me which Alima shade is a good match for Medium Beige, Winged Butter Light and Fairly light?
Thanks so much, |

To my fellow asian sisters which color do you guys use from Alima? Dollbird, I think you and I have very similiar color and complexion from what I could see from our pics. I want to try the illuminating shimmer powder. I like more of a glow rather than a matte finish to my face. What colors do you girls like for the eyes and cheeks? |

I'm MAC NC20 and I use a custom blend of Alima of 80% O1 20% W1. I never knew I had olive skin tones but found that O1 blended better on my skin than either the neutrals or the warms. Golden was way too yellow for me. However the Olive is a bit browner so I did different mixes - Neutrals lightening the Olive still looked brown but W1 added the needed yellow to help neutralize some of the browness - my neck and face are more or less the same color now!
I really like Alima blushes even though I alternate with my MAC and Stila blushes. Alima's matte blushes are way too pigmented and no matter how lightly I dust it on they're too much but their shimmer blushes are GORGEOUS! Although I would recommend darker shades as neither Primrose or Peony showed up on me. Peony did a bit but took a bit of layering. My favorites so far are Rosa and Candy - looking forward to trying more though. They change their luminous blush swatches so now they are more accurate than they were before. BTW I have pics of Carnation and Bisque matte blushes in the Alima rave thread under Product reviews. The same picture also includes a more IRL depiction of the colors so you can see whether you're more of a neutral, warm, golden or olive. Even though you might be a darker skintone it might be a good way to start. (If you're interested I can send you the Bisque/carnation samples as they don't work for me. I also have N3 (new) and unused/lightly used samples of all the colours in the picture if you ever need it since I already found my match)
For eyes I still prefer to use pressed e/s so might not be sampling much of Alima's but I'm sure they would be as high quality as their other products are.
FYI I was recommended by one of Alima's MU artists for Angelique's Illuminating Sheer Powder of my complexion. I think Whisper is also a very nice choice depending on what type of effect you're looking for. HTH |

I've picked up some of Lumiere Minerals in the past few weeks when they were clearing out inventory, and it's just amazing stuff, but I have no experience with MMU, so.. I feel like it's just me liking MMU. They do put squalane into their foundations, every little bit helps. |

My favorite mineral makeup is from Valerie Beauty. I use the CD (cover deluxe) formulation. It gives great coverage and isn't too matte or too glowy, it just looks like your own skin. |

Used JI for several years, but am loving the Physician's Formula just as much...especially the price. I have mature, sensitive skin with large pores and breakouts, but the PF gives me the same coverage as the JI. |

I have tried a bunch of lines, BE, BFM, Everday Minerals, Cory, Botany 101, Alpha Skin Care, Pure Lux, Val Beauty, Mineral Botique. (I think thats all. ) I've just recently found my HG MMU, It is Lumiere, formerly Must Have Minerals. I got the Veena Velvet Foundation, this has oats in it. This is wonderful stuff, it hides my pores and just makes my skin look healthy. It has great coverage and applies like a dream. This blows away all the others I've tried.
Just my 2 cents worth,
Michelle |
