I keep looking for a great natural/physical sunscreen for hands, arms and legs and keep getting let down. I think I'm either gonna have to turn into a mad scientist and come up with something of my own, or marry a cosmetic formulator so I can persuade him to make something that meets all my criteria! Laughing

The pros: Price is quite reasonable, I'm able to find this in my local healthfood store, the texture is much ligher in comparison to Badger Balm SPF30 and best of all, no white cast. It also purports to be biodegradable and is unscented, a necessity in the wild especially if you're camping out in bear country!

The cons: It doesn't last in water, has to be reapplied constantly and I got a slight tan on my legs when I used this. I have no idea what kind of UVA protection this offers, and emails sent to the company requesting this rating went unanswered.

Is it impossible to create a sunblock with all organic ingredients in a light and feathery lotion that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? To any formulators that browse this forum, take this as a not so subtle hint! Laughing

Once this bottle is gone, I won't repurchase [I have 3 bottles of natural sunblocks I'm still working on ]

Active Ingredients: Z-COTE zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, octyl methoxycinnamate, benzophenone-3.
Other Ingredients: water, dimethicone, caprylic/capric triglycerideds, cetyl alcohol, ceteareth-21, aloe vera gel (aka barbadensis), glycerine, xanthan gum, corn starch, sea kelp extract (cacrocystis pyrifera), grapefruit seed extract (citrus grandis), cucumber extract (cucumis sativus), bladderwrack extract (fucus vesiculosus), tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), retinyl palmitate (vitamin A), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), lecithin, citric acid, methylparaben, propylparaben.

Ya know, I'm the same way about trying to find a good body SS, but I have the additional criteron of wanting a purely physical block (I was very sensitive to most US chemical sunscreens years ago, so I've been a physical-only gal since my early teens and have never looked back). For a while I used the Alba SPF 18 block which is chemical-free, but it's all kinds of white cast-y and it also has parabens, which isn't a HUGE deal but I'd rather avoid them.

I recently started using my MyChelle sunblock (purchased for facial use) on my body, and this is the best I've found so far. I don't love the texture, but it's not nearly as greasy-feeling as most physical sunblocks, and the white cast disappears almost completely if you rub it in. It's got a drier and more matte feel than most physical blocks, but it still does have a bit of a tack to the skin. Not the very best solution, but better than anything else I've tried, and quite natural to boot.

I wound up having to buy an extra tube of this on my L.A. trip when they lost my bags, and my boyfriend and I used up quite a lot of it then applying it to our faces and bodies very liberally. But if you would like me to send you the end of my tube so you can give it a try, let me know! I'm happy to part with it as I still have my pre-airline-loss tube that's nearly full, and there's no way I'll go through it all before it expires.

I'm about to order the All Terrain TerraSport Spray SPF30 from vitacost. It is supposed to contain 19% zinc oxide. I can't believe that it doesn't stay on well in water. This is disappointing. Do you think that TerraSport will be different from KidSport?

I love UNT sunscreen which has an SPF of 50 and combines different physical sunscreens like inc oxide with memoryxl (I think that's how you spell it) and skin brightening actives.

Judging by your review the All Terrain one dosent sound to good, will have to steer clear of this one.

I just noticed that this review was originally shared in 07 so I'm wondering if it might be worth double-checking to see if the sunscreen has been reformulated in the years since before writing it off. Who knows, it may have improved since then! Just a thought.... Smile

Excellent point Havana8, I didn't even see the posting date, I know that the one UNT makes which I'm using is great so your probably right they could have reformulated it.

I really like Melansol sunscreen.
It does not leave a white cast and does not feel greassy.

it has a light fragrance that does go away- it is a mix of eucaliptus and lavender-but has almost no scent after 5-10 minutes.

you can buy it from their website.
I like the spf 20 best, but have just the spf 10 right now.
