I'm 29 and still have acne on my both side of face and my chin. I'm so tired of them and I used Philosophy Acne Kit but it didn't work. Then I decided I wanna try Paula's Choice line, so I ordered. This morning I just got them, so tonight will be the first night of using it. Let me try it for a week and I'll be here to give you all some reviews. Thanks for reading...

Anyone has any suggestions or recommendations please advise... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Pretty Pinky,

I just read this and several of your other posts on acne. In one you said that you have been dealing with acne for 5 years and judging by your signaure your acne is weighing very heavy on your mind. While I have never tried the Paula's choice products to comment I do have some suggestions.

First, let's ask some questions. What have you used in the past to try to treat your acne and what is your skin type? Which Paula's Choice products will you be using and what is the rest of your routine?

I noticed that you plan on giving some reviews on the Paula's Choice products in a week. That is great but keep in mind that acne products/medications usually take much longer than that to show results. It is typical for it to take one or two months for your acne to show any real improvement. So be patient. I do not know how long a trial you have given other acne products in the past but it is very important that you find products that are shown effective in treating acne and that you use them consistently for at least a month.

Depending on what you have tried in the past you may want to take a wait and see approach with your new routine. But I also think that at this point you may want to consider seeing a dermatologist. And certainly if your current plans do not show any benefit then I would strongly recommend seeing a dermatologist.

I am acne prone. I use the word "prone" because I have my acne under control and am happy with my skin. I struggled with acne twice in my life and both times I ended up either seeing a dermatologist or giving in and using a prescription product that I would have preferred to avoid. I think you owe it to yourself to take action to really solve this problem. And I also think that you can get your acne under control and start focusing on other things and enjoying life!

Hi Pinky,

H.Kitty has given you some very good advises. I understand how acne situation could make us frustrated and depressed at times. But you do need to follow through a new regimen and give it time. Some laser or light treatment (blue-U) could help with your acne situation without any side effects maybe worth looking into.

I hope you find what's working for you soon.

i also agree with what h.kitty said. i had a very bad outbreak of acne about 5 months ago, i've always had acne but normally at most 3 pimples and usually around TOTM. but this outbreak was very bad, pustules around my chin and also some on my forehead. i tried so many OTC products, salicylic acid, naturderm products, vichy, acne light beam thingy, home laser thingy (beurer) etc etc. lastly i went to see a dermatologist, he prescribed dalacin t (topical clindamycin) and renova. dalacin t dried up all my active acne in about a week. i'm so mad at myself for not going earlier because i now have to deal with tons of red marks.

so do consider going to a derm if it's serious and if this option is available for you. i know even prescription products don't work for some, but it's worth giving it a shot. hth

The 2% BHA LIQUID is fantastic. I would not try the other products in the line as I found alot of ingredients to be problematic for me. The BHA liquid is the only really safe option.

I've using Paula's Choice for 1 day and 1 night and I can say I really this product. Very Happy

Because I always have acne, so I have to use Skin Balancing Anti-Blemish Setwhich includes

1) Skin Balancing Cleanser
I never feel really clean like this before and also never feel dry.

Water, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (gentle detergent cleansing agent), Sodium Lauroamphoacetate (amphoteric surfactant*/mild foam booster), Stearic Acid (fatty acid thickener), Hexylene Glycol (slip agent), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (non-volatile plant oil), Glycol Stearate (thickener), Sodium Trideceth Sulfate (emulsifier), Acrylates Copolymer (film-forming agent), Sodium Chloride (stabilizer and pH-adjusting agent), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (water-binding agent), Cetearyl Alcohol (thickener), Laureth-4 (emulsifier), Citric Acid (stabilizer), Xanthan Gum (thickener), Disodium EDTA (stabilizer), Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Phenoxyethanol (all preservatives).

*An amphoteric surfactant is a very gentle class of detergent cleansing agent. It is comprised of both an acid and a base (alkaline), which makes it close to pH-neutral.

How long you have been using BHA Liquid? What else are you using? Do you have acne problems like me?

I used the 1% Gel for a while and it was great-- no blemishes, even during my TOTM. After I started getting breakouts, I tried the 2% liquid. It actually irritated my skin more. Even after I scaled down the usage, it dried me out and didn't really help my acne.

I am now using Jan Marini, but when I run out, I plan on using the 2% Gel instead of the liquid. I think the liquid was too strong and the gel might be more gentle.

The carbon mask is pretty good and gentle enough that it doesn't irritate me.

Hi Pretty Pinky!

Thanks for posting the ingredient lists for the Paula's choice products. How are they working for you? I don't mean if your acne is going away yet but do the products seem to agree with you skin so far?

As for the toner, I too have never been a fan of toners. But since this one contains some niacinamide which can be anti-inflammatory it might be beneficial for your acne or it might not be. It really depends on how much niacinamide is in the product.

It seems to me that the key products here are the BHA Gel and the Benzoyl Peroxide Product. When do you use these once or twice a day? I would suggest (if you are not doing it already) to only use the Benzyol Peroxide on the areas or your face where you experience acne. So if you have acne on your chin and cheeks and nowhere else then just apply it to your cheeks and chin and skip the other areas. Benzoyl Peroxide can be harsh-but effective - so it is best to skip areas where you don't need it. Of course, it is also important that you cover the entire acne prone area with this and not just your pimples.

Keep us updated! I have my fingers crossed for you. Smile
