Okay. Here's the start of this list. I'll probably build on it as I go through the Active Concepts list in greater detail.
Caveat: The following list of actives taken from Active Concepts does not list all the items Active Concepts has available. This list includes only tried-and-true actives and is meant only for the everyday DIYer and contains those items that are easy to incorporate and easy to fairly easy to work with without needing complex recipes. (This list also doesn’t include easy to find items that are available just about anywhere.) If you’re an experienced formulator, there are more items listed that you might be interested in.
Rosacea Actives (Soothing & adjusting immune response)
Yeast Beta Glucan
White Licorice
Anti-Oxidants
Roobios tea
Green Tea Extract
Fennel Extract
Rosehip Extract
Firming and Anti-Age Actives
DermaPeptide
Oat Extract Beta
Oat Extract Plus
Yeast Beta Glucan
Horsetail Extract
Collagen PrePeptide
Skin Nutrition
Sea Kelp Bioferment
Oat Protein Powder (But you can grind Rolled Oats in your food processor and add to your favorite moisturizer for a nourishing mask for the same result.)
Collagen Synthesis
Yeast Beta Glucan
DermaPeptide
Collagen Pre Peptide
Cell Turnover and Proliferation
Coenzyme Q-10 Liposome
Astringent
Edelweiss Extract (mild astringent and a great skin smoothing active)
Lady’s Mantle Extract
Exfoliation
Bromelain Powder (A personal favorite but could be too harsh for sensitive skin.)
Dried Yogurt Powder (Cheaper to use Plain Yogurt with aspirin mask to achieve fantastic results. Also controls Sebum production.)
Apricot Extract
Moisturizing (Skin)
Avocado Extract
Soybean Extract
Skin Lightening Actives
Lemon Peel
White Licorice
Hair Basic Nutrition
Sea Kelp Bioferment
Fennel Extract
Hair Conditioning and Growth
Sea Kelp Bioferment
Fennel Extract

I'm really interested in the Yeast Beta Glucan and the horsetail extract. As far as the horsetail extract is concerned, I read that it contains silicia in it and may promote hair growth. |

Seems there's some interest in the Yeast Beta Glucan so I'll contact the company for prices. I'm eyeing Coenzyme Q-10 Liposome, Collagen and Derma Peptide...oh the endless possibilities ![Bad Grin](images/smiles/badgrin.gif) |

Just a note for those who want actives that we can't co-op because we won't have enough folks wanting them:
There are a number of on-line suppliers for these. Here are just a few:
www.skinactives.com
www.theherbarie.com
www.bulkactives.com
I get my Fennel Extract from The Herbarie and I love it.

Ari,
How do you use the Fennel Extract? What does it do for you?
Thank you. |

I use the Fennel Extract in my shampoo recipe and also add a few drops to the SKB for my leave in styling gel. Fennel Extract is great for conditioning your hair to a healthier state and also for hair growth.

Thank you very much. Does it give a nice shine to the hair? |

It doesn't give the hair an intense glossy shine. More like a soft shine that a 4-year old has because it makes the hair healthier and younger looking.

Thank you. |

Actually, my bathroom has been compared to a pharmacy by DH. I have a LOT of stuff. But, from the Actives Concepts' list, these are my choices:
I already have (but would love to get more at a less expensive price):
Sea Kelp Bio. for just about EVERYTHING!
Fennel for the Hair.
Yeast Beta Glucan for my face 'cause it makes happy skin!
Coenzyme Q-10 'cause I'm an old broad and want new skin faster.
Edelweiss Extract because of it's skin conditioning and slightly astringent properties it seems to control sebum production extremely well.
Saw Palmetto in my ACV rinse for hair growth.
Horsetail Extract for the same reason.
Green Tea Extract for its anti-oxidant properties in my skin care potions & lotions. It also calms the skin.
The things I don't have but are wanting to get are either the Oat Extract Plus or the Oat Extract Beta to complement the Beta Glucan. Oat Beta Glucans are different than the Yeast BGs and I've heard they're great. And, I'd like to try the DermaPeptide (I love Skin Actives' Dermagen and want to see if there's a difference 'cause Dermagen is too pricey to use as a base.) And, finally, the Avocado Extract mostly for moisture for my hair but also for my skin.
Whew!

Ari, in your last post you posted that SKB was good for just about everything. How about serious acne? |

Salli, I think Sea Kelp is a great overall active. Used as the base with Salicylic Acid and Surfactant, it makes a fab facial cleanser for acne, including cystic. When you have breakouts you can also just dab this cleanser right on the blemish and go to bed. A couple of nights of this and it is a remarkable difference in healing.

Ari, again this is for my son. Since I'm a semi DIY'er. I was thinking, and this comes from what I've read on this forum, that I would make him a cleanser with a Cetaphil gentle cleanser, SKB, aloe vera. For the salicylic acid could I add dissolved aspirin? I was also thinking about making a moisturizer/serum based on rosehip oil (for scarring and moisture) and SKB. What do you think? |

Sounds good, Salli. Dissolved regular aspirin is what I use. I just crush those tablets up and toss them in and beat 'til totally dissolved into the mix. How many you use is dependent on how much base you end up with. I'd suggest 3 per 4 oz. of final cleanser base to start.

I'd like the Coenzyme Q10-liposome,
the horsetail extract, the fennel extract, the Saw Palmetto, and the Derma peptide. I also use a lot of Green tea extract if it's cheaper than Personal Formulator I'd certainly buy that. |

Second that. Just awesome. I hope you know that we will now be pestering the daylights out of you for help with our concoctions!
**BTW, Ari, I'm pretty sure we are related. Your signature line says your descent is English/French/Irish/Native American. Well, if you trade out the French and replace Italian, we definitely have the same family tree (well, I'd need to add Scottish to that, too). So don't think of it as having a stranger moving in with you, think of me as FAMILY! ![Laughing](images/smiles/lol.gif) |
