I bought some papain powder online and want to make enzyme peels. Does anyone know if it necessary to adjust the pH and to what? Or can I just mix with water and cornstarch? Is it ok to apply right after washing your face or is there a waittime as it is with AHA?

the active ingredient for skin in papain powder is the enzyme component - great for exfoliating. Enzymes are quite uncomfortable in high-PH (acidic) environments, so your pH should be as close to neutral (pH 7) as possible. Also avoid heating. No wait time,as it is quite different chemically from AHA. Just use tepid (room temperature) water, mix well, and slap on. |

Do you know how much to use? How long to leave it on? I also tried to find a recipe, but no luck online - do you have a suggestion? |

| For my own dry powder mixture (it is in a corn silk base with salicin and bromelain) I use about 3%, you can bring it up to 5-8% if using on its own. It all depends on how your skin tolerates enzymes, I think most people feel "sting" on first use but develop some resistance to it. |
