My skin just can't take any products with Vit. C in them, no matter what formulation and concentration. I break out in a rash which takes weeks to heal.
But I would really like to add an antioxidant product to my routine, the question is only: which one? I was recommended the Smooth Lines serum from Prior with idebenone, but I have read that idebenone may also cause irritation.
For the record: my skin is normal/dry, relatively fine, no real sun damage. |

Nemi - I've heard good things about Priori but have not tried it myself and also cannot comment on the suitability of idebenone to sensitive skins. I hope someone might be able to give you more info on that. I'd like to throw in another option though. Perhaps try a sample of the Rooibos Serum (might also be called Red Tea serum) from Diana Yvonne. Rooibos is a very powerful antioxidant. I've tried the DY Rooibos serum a while back and liked it. I found it a bit sticky from what I recall so I keep sticking with my vit C serums, but it might be a nice alternative if you can't handle vit C. |

Thank you, Mabsy. I'm not really that sensitive, apart from the issues with vitamin C. I will look into the rooibos-serum, although sticky is not a good word in my book. |

I've been thinking, and I am sick and tired of experimenting, and stressing my skin. I think I'll simply repurchase the MD Formulations Moisture Defense Lotion, which helped my skin through a bad period earlier. At least I know that I can tolerate it. I use glycolic acid in addition (also MDF), and tolerate it pretty well, and in addition, I use sun protection and have never smoked in my life.
Prevention is supposed to be everything. |

I have normal skin that's dehydrated and on the dry side without all these lovely products. Sun damage for me is at a minimum too. I was also recommended prior's smooth lines serum but I didn't get it because I like sampling first.
Definitely try Pure Skin Formulations Berry Beneficial. It claims it has over 15% of antioxidant ingredients in it and I love using it because it does smell like blueberries. It contains HA so it helps with the dry skin. You can always order a sample of this on the PSF website. The full bottle at EDS is under "PSF Treat & Repair".
I just bought JB's (Alphaderma on EDS) C&C serum after trying a couple samples and I do not find it drying at all or tingly so it might not give you that rash. I know when my skin is dry the Viver and PSF Vit C samples I've been using have a tendency to give me red dry rash patches but not the C&C. I would lay off on the Vivier and PSF if my skin was dry but I didn't have to do that using the C&C.
Hope that helps! |

The more I think, the more confused I get.
I'll go back to the esthetician today, and I probably end up buying the smooth lines, if it is possible to return it in case of a reaction. I have also learned that it's important to start off gradually, with use every other day, and then increase after a few weeks. I prefer buying things locally, in case of questions/complaints.
Will keep this thread alive.
As for minimal sun damage: the positive side effect of living in Northern Norway. |

The PSF is good with the booster. |

I like PSF too with the booster. Vivier really gave me a bad rash, but perfect with PSF. No tingling feeling at all. |

I am currently using skinceutical 10& vitamin c. So far so good as I also have sensitive skin and was told to start on a lower concentration of vit c so the skin can adjust and work up to a higher concentration. |

For me, it was so bad that even a miniscule amount of vit. C anywhere near the face, caused a rash. So then, there's no chance of tolerating it.
I bought the Smooth Lines serum from Priori two days ago, and have only tested it once. I am curious about the irritation issue, but haven't seen anything so far. |

Nemi, have you tried the triple action c serum from skincarecentral? it doesn't use l-ascorbic acid but 3 less irritating forms of C.
Protect, Repair and Lighten Skin--All in One Product!
Ascorbic Acid works best at an acidic pH. While effective, acidic Vitamin C products may irritate some skins. This novel formula uses Ascorbyl Glucoside, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate. These three forms of vitamin C create a remarkable synergistic combination that remains stable for long periods, offering high antioxidant and collagen boosting poperties but without any rritation of the skin. In fact, this formula is soothing and anti-inflamatory. It is the perfect product to use after facial peels as well as in the AM for antioxidant benefits and in the PM for additional skin lightening effects.
What is Ascorbyl Glucoside?
Ascorbyl Gluscoside is a new type of stable Vitamin C that is not easily oxidized, but still shares the same physiological activation mechanism as ordinary Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic acid). By formulating the product with Ascorbyl Glucoside, the less degradable Vitamin C exerts a sustained action on the skin, bringing about remarkable effects not only in improving discoloration and freckles, but also in stimulating collagen production to prevent the aging of skin.
Ascorbyl Glucoside has proven antioxidant, skin lightening and age-spot reduction efficacy and has been historically recognised in Japan as a Quasi drug for skin whitening.
Directions: Apply to clean skin A.M. and P.M. and allow to dry. May be used as often as needed on irritated or freshly peeled skin.
Ingredients: Distilled water, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Hyaluronic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Ethlhexlglycerin.

No, I haven't tried that serum, but will look into it.
Update: I have been using Priori's Smooth Lines once a day since Thursday, and my skin just can't take it. I have developed some sort of rash on my nose and forehead, and the skin feels rough to the touch, so I guess I'll have to return it.
I am gradually getting sick&tired of not tolerating anything interesting on my skin. Apart from glycolic acid, which I can't live without. Strange, because one would think acids are more upsetting to skin... |
