I have had this skin rash for going on two weeks now. It is only on my forehead and is raised red bumps, (TINY) millions of them, and some of them come it a sort of head. They break open/Itch really badly and spread rapidly. I have not changed any hair/skin/face/detergent/food any items of any type. When I get out of the shower, I use cold water and no products on it except an antibacterial soap, the area is burning. I have an appointment with my Derm, but he can not see me for a week. I am starting to get scared, because I don't have any other symptoms, but I have read a lot about various skin disorders and some are serious. I have tried over the counter topical creams, and NOTING has changed it. So far, only on my forehead, but it does itch from time to time. Thoughts??

It might be an allergic reaction. A friend had a similar rash caused by eating bananas. She was just starting to become allergic, and the first signs were a rash. Now if she accidentally eats something with bananas, her reaction is quite severe (swelling, difficulty breathing, etc.). I had a bad rash like that on my torso, and it turned out to be an allergy to a skincare ingredient in a lotion sample that I had applied to my face. The weird thing is that the area that I applied the lotion to was fine, and I got the rash in a different area.

I had a terrible rash a month ago and started a thread here: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=27513&highlight=

I used hydrocotisone cream and quit using cleansers, moisturisers, serums, masks and all sorts til my skin calmed down. And even when my skin was back to normal, I only used a basic moisturiser and eye cream. So maybe you can try a hydrocortisone cream and just use water and a flannel to cleanse your face.

yeahyeah is right. Just rinse your face with tepid water and try the hydrocortisone cream if you like. I don't recommend the flannel because you might spread the rash. The very first thing I'd recommend is that you stop using antibacterial soap on your face, especially that area. Antibacterial soap can sometimes actually cause the type of reaction you describe even though you may have used it for years without incident.

My husband had the same type of thing going on with his face. It did spread and it was ugly. He tried some over the counter cream, but it did not work.

He finally got into the derm and the doctor gave him an oral prescription as well as a topical prescription cream.

I couldn't believe it but by the next day, it had started to improve. He has only been on the medications for 1 week, and it is completely gone.

I don't think I would mess around with anything until you see the doc, as my husband was told that over the counter creams can sometimes make it worse.

Hope this helps...........and Good Luck!

I think you should stop using the antibacterial soap too, that was my first thought.

Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream is cheap and effective for rashes, but be careful not to use too much nor too often. I've heard that the cortisone may bleach the skin over time. But for temporary use it is ok.

Cortisone creams can also thin the skin, so unless your derm prescribes it for you, I wouldn't self-medicate with them at this point. Discontinue the anti-bacterial soap, which I personally would feel would be too aggressive for my facial skin. Also, some medications can cause skin reactions, even if you have been taking them for awhile.

Bring a list of all the medications and vitamins you take when you visit your derm, and in the meantime be as gentle with your skin as possible. Please let us know how things turn out.

I have gotten exactly what you have described a couple of times in the past from using sunscreens with octyl methoxycinnamate in them. Every time I would use the offending sunscreen, my forehead would break out into hundreds of tiny, little itchy bumps. It took me forever to find out that it was the sunscreen, but since I have stayed away from it I never got that reaction again. HTH!

This might sound weird but my co-worker had something like that. She went to a walkin clinic and they told her it was herpes!! Not like STD herpes, but another type. She was given meds for it and they went away.

I've had a reaction to my old sunscreen too. It made me break out in what looked like small bumps like hives. The hydrocortisone will help alot with the itching.

thanks for all the replies, I found a new derm yesterday afternoon (was not fond of my current one anyway) and he was concerned. Since I have not put anything different on my face, no sunscreens, makeups, lotions, potions, detergents anything. He did say that it appears to be a "contact" rash, or irritate or some sort. He said even if I did not think I came in contact with anything, he said I could have tried a hat or clothing on in a store that had something on it that my skin broke out from. He did ask me to continue on the anti-bacterial wash that I was using on my forehead and prescribed "desonide" which is a low dose steriod cream. He also told me that even know I have been using cetaphil for "forever" he said that sometimes they can make a batch that has "cheaper" oils in it and maybe my skin did not like it. But I would think that would mean it would have affected my whole face, but it hasn't yet. Anyway, looks better today, still millions of bumps, but the bumps are not so inflamed around them. He wants to see me next week again, to make sure it has improved. We will see. Thanks again.
