I have all of a sudden been breaking out in small pimples lately, and the only thing I can think of that has changed is that I had started using those Clean & Clear Blotting Papers (the blue ones). I had been using them like 4-5 times a day the last few weeks, and before I was using them my skin was so clear. When I use them I get a ton of oil off my face, and am wondering if maybe the fact that I am removing so much oil that my skin is rebelling and producing more? Has anyone had any experience with this - or any thoughts?
thanks! |

People have mentioned before that they have some weird ingredients you wouldn't expect (Propylene, Mineral Oil, 3, 4-Dimethylbenzyl-Idene Sorbitol, Zinc Stearate, Ultramarines). I do think that maybe my forehead breaks out more when I use them a lot, so I try to only use them when I really have to (like when I'm out in public, but not when I'm just sitting around the house). They do work better than anything else I've tried, so I'm not willing to give them up completely. |

I also heard that they put some kind of ingredients onto the paper to absorb the oil.
I too use the Clean and Clear oil blotting sheets and I dont think they make me break out. The past few days I have used them quite regularly, maybe twice a day and I am breaking out right now, but I dont think the blotting sheets are the cause of it.
Like cloud, I dont usually use the sheets when I am at home. I usually use them when I am out in public.
Another thing that I remember is that I *think* someone did an unscientific experiment on the types of oil blotting sheets to see which ones were most effective for blotting oil but not absorbing the skins moisture, and I am pretty sure the Clean and Clear ones came out ok.

I was going to mention the toilet covers as well. Snag one and fold it up into your purse for later. Why waste money on that stuff? |

I tried the Clean and Clear blotting papers several months ago before I got oil under control. Didn't care for all the ingredients and I somehow wondered if I was "pressing" all that junk into my skin.
Another blotting paper I used was my Jane Iredale; it's flaxseed paper only and comes in a convenient carrying case; however, I had to use 3-4 to do the job and they had the consistency of toilet seat liners - I would use them again if needed, but honestly my oily skin is under control now and I seldome need blotting papers. Pearl paste and pearl powders are what really turned the corner for me.
Luck and peace,

WEll I had used the Boscia papers at one point and those were great, but had to order online, so figured the convenience of the C&C papers would be easier. They do have a bunch of ingredients in them though so maybe that is what the problem is. Thanks for all your suggestions!
I have also used the toilet seat covers too, and they do work, its just that they are not always available - i mean if I'm in a public restroom and they are there, I can't take a whole bunch and put them in my purse!! |

I've been using rice papers instead of these and really prefer them. I buy mine at Ulta. |

My derm told me not to use blotting paper. He said it can stimulate acne and irritate on my face. |

I use Clean & Clear but I dont have the outer packaging, is there any way that you can post the ingredients up or direct me as to where I can find the ingredients?
Thanks! |

Hi Amylola,
During my late teenage, my oily skin was enjoying its greatest glories. I was using some blotting papers too to suck all the oil up just like how my mom would wrap her deep fried banana with the paper towel before serving.
Well, it worked for a short while but the grease would be back very soon. Then I would blot more and more frequently but my face actually went even oilier!
Luckily, my friend's sister, a professional beautician, told me to stop doing that because the blotting paper would actually excite your skin to produce more sebum due to the instant over-drying. She advised me to use a soft face tissue paper to lightly dabbed on the oily part. It worked! And it is still working.
My skin is genetically oily but the tissue dabbing helps to control the shine efficiently. One single sheet of tissue paper is enough for a whole day (I just tear them in parts). Very economic solution. Now, I blot about 2-3 times per day, that's it.

I found the ingredients online and OMG ---- It has Mineral oil! I wonder why though?!
Propylene, Mineral Oil, 3, 4-Dimethylbenzyl-Idene Sorbitol, Zinc Stearate, Ultramarines
Although I dont think I breakout from usage (I cant be sure as everytime I breakout, I either had "bad"/junk food or its TOTM breakouts) but now that I know it has mineral oil in it .... |

Nicollette,
That is exactly what I was thinking, it just seemed like the more I used them, the oilier my skin got. And then I would have to use more sheets, it was just a vicious cycle!
When you say facial tissue - Are you referring to like a Kleenex Tissue?
I will definitely try those. Thank you so much for your help!

Amylola,
Yes, I use tissue paper like Kleenex for more than 10 years already. I normally pick up those with softer texture, which feels more like cloth than paper.
If you wear heavy foundation (cream or liquid), the tissue paper may wipe off some of it. So try to dab it on your face as gently as possible.
Personally, I will use the blotting paper only for very important events where I want my make up to stay as much as it's applied on. You can pick up some simple blotting paper with very few ingredients added on it.
Speaking of this, I just find out that I still have a packet of such Japanese blotting paper sitting in my bathroom since 7 years! Hmm, may be I will just use it to clean my specs or camera lens, it works wonder!

Well Nicollette, I am trying your suggestion, just using light pressure with Kleenex tissues. It's been 2 days and I feel less greasy already, so I honestly do think it was those darn C&C papers! |

I tried Clean and Clear blotting papers twice over the last few years and both times I started breaking out terribly. I now use Body Shop's blotting paper (the one without powders) and my skin's fine. |
