Hello ladies
This my first ever post but I have been lurking these forums for quite a while now! Thanks to all you wonderful people, I have learned so much about skincare, it is unbelievable. I now use carekate's homemade HCC, jojoba oil and the ACV toner. I've always been more of a moisturizer and lipgloss girl. Anyways, what has prompted me to post is that my wedding is coming up in like 40 days and I have been noticing that sans anything my face looks quite dry and dull. I had flawless skin for a long time until I turned 25 and broke out really bad. Since then its up and down and I must confess I haven't really developed a stringent facial care regimen.
I was hoping you could help me. I am 30, have a combination skin with a very oily T Zone and chin and temples. The area under my eyes, my cheeks and the general around the mouth area is dry. Sometimes the tzone gets really oily and the dry areas get drier. I don't ever breakout as such but I get a few zits some big some small during my periods. Occassionally I get a few "off season" bumps for which I use 2.5% BP gel. What I do have though, are a substantial bunch of stubborn, tiny whiteheads on my nose and chin area. My nose feels very rough to the touch. I have a few visible enlarged pores on my cheeks by the sides of my nose and tiny acne spots around my lower lip. I also have an uneven skintone and since I am darker (NW45) it shows a little even when you are 6 ft away from me. For a cleanser I have been using a simplified version of carekate's HCC - almond butter with tea tree oil in the AM and Cetaphil cleanser in the PM. I have been using Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel for about 2-3 years now and though initially it seemed to work wonders for my skin, it doesn't seem to be doing anything for me now, so I use jojoba oil on alternate days and at night. Clinique's City Block SPF 25 for sunscreen. I don't know why I hadn't seen them earlier, but only recently I came upon the posts about where most folks here hate Clinique products. I wish I had seen those earlier! I have also been using EM MMU the last few months.
I need your help developing a regimen. I know 40 days is not a lot of time, but I will take anything better than now. I have read a lot about OCM here and it appeals to me very much and the only thing that is keeping me from starting it is the fear of a purge around my wedding day.
I cannot invest in expensive skin care products but if there is one product that will definitely help me see results I will consider it.
Phew! Sorry for the long post. I haven't talked skincare to anyone in so long (I moved recently) that I just had to vent! I really really appreciate all your help. Thanks! |

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! Indeed, as the bride, you'll want your skin looking in tip-top shape.
I realize that with the expenses associated with a wedding, that you're trying to conserve funds. There is not really one product that I can honestly say will rectify the problems you've indicated.
The Kate Somerville Purifying Exfoliating Cleanser Clarisonic Set would likely alleviate the dullness, congestion & break-outs you're experiencing. For the price of the Clairsonic kit, there is a free, retail sized tube of cleanser to pair with it. (I this cleanser!)
http://www.essentialdayspa.com/kate-somerville-purifying-p_7348.htm
Otherwise, you might want to go this route:
Kate Somerville Purifying Exfoliating Cleanser
PSF MicroCrystal Resurfacing Cream
Kate Somerville Nourish Daily Moisture (not greasy!) |

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials!
You could try a chemical peel. I've been using the Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel with surprising success (i usually never love anything, let alone my skin!). I didn't experience any purging from it either which says alot coming from my i'll-break-out-if-you-look-at-me-funny skin. |

The only thing I want to say is avoid doing or using anything drastic from what you normally do. The last thing you want happen is your face shown bad reactions from your new experiment. Get a gentle and relaxing facial maybe an option as a quick pick me up.
Relax and enjoy your big day. |

I would also suggest a mild peel and microderm. You could get something mild like the Avon Clinical Peel pads or SSC on HSN has some firming facial pads I love too (http://www.hsn.com/cnt/prod/default.aspx?webp_id=3336326&sf=). You could also pick up one of the drugstore microderm kits like Neutrogena's. You might also want to call one of the spas and ask about a mild peel combo. I have a lot of friends that use the Avon pads and love them and have never had a bad reaction from them. Still I think the sooner the better, don't try something only a week before. |

The PSF Pumpkin Mask helped my dull skin brighten up a bit. Nothing miraculous, but it did make a difference.
I am expecting my Clarisonic with Kate Somerville cleanser in the mail within the next couple of days. I hope it will help with my congestion and acne. I've heard great things about it and it seems like it would also help your skin problems too. |

Although looking at when you started this thread it seems the wedding had been done by now so like im thinking you manage to tackle the dull skin problem in time .
If not important you exfoliate, maybe try a radiance moisturizer? if not just a proper moisturizer. And you can try on masks every week depending on your skin condition now |

vanimm.
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.
Preparing for your wedding day is such a joy but can be very stressful. Have you considered treating yourself to a few professional facials? The pampering would be lovely for you right now.
My daughter was having a few skin issues before her wedding. She went for a facial once a week for a month prior to the wedding. She glowed on her wedding day.
If you are not interested in facials I do know the IS Clinical line gives a nice healthy glow. IS Clinical Active Serum and HydraCool.
I can't stress enough how a few facial would be great. IMHO it is not a good idea to fuss too much with new products before such an important occasion.
Best Wishes,
Winnie |

I'm sending Vanimm a box of various product samples (i.e.: gentle at-home peels, a Vit-C serum and other "rejuventing" potions) that shouldn't upset her apple-cart before her big day...I knew that hoarding all those samples would come in handy someday -- and I can't think of a more-deserving recipient than a cash-strapped bride-to-be that needs a little TLC before her wedding march!

I see carekate is sending you samples including vitamin C. Vitamin C has done more to make my skin "glowy" than anything else I've tried. It doesn't take long. Best of luck and women have a way of looking great on their wedding day, regardless of what products they use. |

Aww...you guys are super awesome!!! Thank you so much for all the wonderful ideas and all your wishes! I was just so busy with work and other wedding stuff I hadn't taken the time to tend to my face
I agree with all of you that trying new products so close to the D-day is not a good idea. Which is why I was a little lost about what to do. I've been wanting to try all the products mentioned here since a while. I'll have to wait till after the wedding to satisfy those lemmings. I'm going to give the stuff carekate sends to me first (a gazillion thanks carekate!!) and take it from there. I'm excited about the Vit-C
I read here that the Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel has an identical twin in Juice Organics? Is that something I could try?
Winnie, I have absolutely no problem getting facials. My sister's been bugging about the same. I went to the Aveda Institute and got a few facials about 6 weeks ago and I loved it. They're so affordable at the institute too! I stopped going as my aesthetician graduated I'll make an appointment today
Oakview, LOL, you have no idea how much better that makes me feel
Thanks y'all, I you! |

congrats on the upcoming wedding!
i got married about 9 months ago...so the excitement, stress, anxiety, etc. are still pretty clear in my mind.
i generally agree that you not try anything super drastic, as you don't know how your skin will react. go get facials...let a professional look after you...explain your situation regarding the upcoming wedding & that you generally need 'sprucing up' and that you want to look as beautiful & naturally glowy as possible. also, taking the time out to get pampered is the best!
plan your last facial 1 week before the wedding...not a good idea to get one any sooner, just incase.
try not to super stress about your skin, that's always sent my skin into a tizy & don't pick!!!! leave any picking to the professional.
hth.
best of luck! |

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding - how exciting
You've received lots of great suggestions already, but I'll add my $.02 anyway.
It's a hugely important day, yet you don't have a ton of time, and you certainly don't want to use/do things that'll mess up your skin.
My simple suggestions: A LOT of exfoliation daily (I use Epidermx II), a bha/aha product to clean out pores/refine texture (I use I Feel Pretty), and vitamin C for glow (I use Candessence Triple C).
HTH and ENJOY your beautiful day - you'll shine no matter what your skin is like ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

Hey Vanimm, congrats! There is a Juice Organics version of the peel, but I've personally never tried it. However, if you want to give the real thing a try, most Sephora locations have Juice Beauty and they are usually very generous about giving out samples of this stuff! I have to confess I'm a total Sephora slut - I've gotten like three big sample containers of this peel and never actually paid for a container myself! Someday I will suck it up and commit to a peel to buy full-size - there are just so many good ones out there that I don't want to pen myself down, so that's why I keep going the sample route. But anyway - a cheap alternative, as long as nothing else off the Sephora shelves sucks you in!
Also, re: your comment about the Aveda institute, please just be careful what kinds of services you get. I don't know where you're located, but here in Seattle we have an Aveda institute as well with discounted services, and I know someone who had a ton of skin ripped off their face by an inexperienced waxist! So please, please don't go for waxing - if you're gonna wax, it's not something to skimp on a month before your wedding!
Also, at our institute there are usually three tiers of students (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and the price difference to get a more advanced student is only a couple bucks. So it's worth springing for a top facialist about to graduate, since they're the most likely to know what they're doing. Normally I'd say it's not a big difference, but it's your big day - you wanna look perfect!
One last thing - boozing it up with the bridesmaids at your bachelorette party can really lead to haggard skin, haha. Make sure to stay super-hydrated and take lots of multivitamins and eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies in the few days up to the actual wedding. Skincare matters, but nothing substitutes for a healthy lifestyle (as I sip my Pepsi at work, hunched in front of a computer...) so just make sure you ease out of your bachelorette fun, if applicable.
Good luck and have FUN!!! Congrats!

LOL! Thats a wonderful idea. I used to be intimidated at stores like Sephora. I would walk in, feel very unpretty and just turn around and leave. Nowadays I'm better I will definitely do just that - go get a sample.
Thanks for the heads up on Aveda. I used to go to an Aveda salon to get waxing done when I lived in Virgina 2 years ago. The lady there was amazing. BUT since I moved from there I've been sticking to my epilator. And, I will keep that in mind about the alcohol, don't want to look haggard!

I've just recently got my full size sample of the Juice Beauty Peel, before that I had the sensitive version, but my skin is too too tough/stubborn I guess! I used a few sephora samples (gave me about 3 complete faces worth) before buying the whole thing just to make sure my skin didn't get used to it or that it wasn't just the wishful thinking something miraculous happened!
Having done some reading on the JB peel before buying it, most people seem to feel that the JB version is more effective than the JO peel. I haven't personally tried the JO peel, but being as happy as I am with the JB version, why mess with a good thing! Although I have been itching to try the PSF or NCN pumpkin peel as well! |

A wow product to make you face GLOW!! is Elysee Optim OX. Medical grade oxygen that brings the oxygen to the surface and give your skin a radiant glow.
Would really try this but make sure you start using it before the wedding. Sometimes in the beginning stages of using this product your skin purges with a few pimples. But it clears up once your skin is use to it.
Congratualations. |
