I've got a bunch of milia under my eyes and around my cheeks and wanted to get them extracted by a dermatologist. I've never been to a dermatologist before and am kind nervous. I have medi-cal, but I haven't found a dermatologist that accepts it. I'm afraid even if I do find one, they will tell me not to get them extracted or the only way I can get rid of them is with laser. Should I keep searching or just go to any dermatologist and pay them the money? Around how much would it cost? Can I even use medi-cal for this? |

Do a search on it here first. There may be other methods of getting rid of them? |

I have tried lots of the stuff I found here and none of them worked. |

Just my opinion, but I doubt medi-cal will pay for it. It's considered a cosmetic procedure, not a medical one. That is, it's not connected to an illness or disease.
That said, ask your friends. There may be a derm who can finagle payment, by referring to it as a "condition" or some such. But these things happen more by serendipity (in my experience) than by design.
There is NOTHING to fear about a dermatologist. Although I remember feeling the same way long ago. It's even, if you think about, a little self-centered. (I tell my friends who fear gynecologist embarrassment this all the time.) Believe me, he/she has seen it all before. You are simply another part of a very routine day.

I went to the dermatologist a few weeks ago because I had a mole on my neck that looked off and so they chopped it off, right there in the room! It was a little scary, but it really didn't hurt and the derm was super nice. After that, she looked over my skin and said that there were some Milia on my face, but removing them was definitely cosmetic (so is removing vericose veins btw) so expect to pay a bunch and still potentially have some scars, so I would suggest sticking to exfoliating and trying to gently remove them yourself if you can.

An eye doctor told me to put washcloths with warm water over my eyes as a compress. I haven't tried it yet so I can't say if it works. |

Yes, it is cosmetic so your insurance won't cover it. They are so annoying, I have a few under my eyes and they take a long time to go away. Basically you need to keep exfoliating, so that they can come out. I used retin a for like a week or 2 and it took care of them. For the ones on your cheek, you can use a gentle scrub and retin A too...should be gone in a week. If your persistent. I know a lot of people pop them on their own, but thats so risky since its near your eyes. |
