Hello all! I am hoping to get some good conversation going with this thread. It has been so interesting to read all of the various approaches to skin care here on this board. I We have all tried many different products - and I would love to know what are you products your are sticking with day in and day out. Maybe if we share what concerns we have and the routines we use we can learn from each other.
Ok... I'll start!
My Concerns: 36, fine lines, some blotchiness in skin tone (because I did not wear sunscreen regularly until my mid 20s... wish I had known...)
My Goal: is to have my skin look so good that I do not need foundation.
My Routine:
AM (M, W, F)
Wash face with Rhassoul cleansing bar from NCN
Apply NCN Lemon Peel Bioferment
DIY Vitamin C serum (wait 20 minutes)
NCN Bio Active Day Cream (my HG product !!)
45 SPF sunblock
AM (Tu, Th, Sa, Su)
Wash face with Rhassoul cleansing bar from NCN
Apply NCN Lemon Peel Bioferment
Spritz of freshly brewed green tea*
NCN Bio Active Day Cream (my HG product !!)
45 SPF sunblock
-----
PM (M, W, F)
Wash face with Rhassoul cleansing bar from NCN
Micro fiber cleansing cloth for exfoliation
Apply NCN Lemon Peel Bioferment
Retin A (wait 45 minutes)
Avocado or Vitamin E oil
PM (Tu, Th, Sa, Su)
Wash face with Rhassoul cleansing bar from NCN
Apply NCN Lemon Peel Bioferment
Honey Water**
*Green Tea spritz: I'd like to make a green Tea serum, just need to do some research on how!! Any ideas?
**Honey Water... can't say enough good things about this! I had read on this forum that some people apply honey as a mask and leave on for 20 minutes or so. I wanted to apply it longer - but knowing that it could be messy I mixed in some warm water to dilute. What I do is mix 5-6 parts parts warm water to 1 part raw honey. Mix until dissolved. Apply liberally on face. It is slightly tacky after drying - but no so much that my hair sticks to it or that it gets on my pillow case. I go to sleep and wash off in the morning. My skin is SOOO soft and hydrated. Huge rave... easy, cheap!
***Also want to add another active to my night routine... no sure what yet (still researching). Maybe some combination on SAS's Antioxidant Booster with a base cream (or add to honey water). Another possibility would be adding Niacinamide or Coenzyme Q10 to a base cream. Not sure which yet...
Anyway, I would love to hear some of your concerns, goals and routines if you wouldn't mind sharing. I have learned a ton from this forum already.
Thanks in advance,
Emily

Hello all!
I've just turned 42 and am having the best skin of my life!
My routine:
am
*dry brush face
*apply liberal amount of castor oil (1/3) and hempseed oil (2/3) and massage
*whizz the vaculift round for couple of mins
*spritz NudeSkincare hydrating water (very mild toner) and wipe off oil (whilst allowing a residual amount of oil to remain)
*apply PSF Bio-Copper serum
*apply Neo Strata hydrating moisturizer
*DIY vit C spray once a week
pm
*cleanse with NudeSkincare cleansing oil
*apply Let's Make Collagen
*apply Bright I serum to eyes
*dermaroll with 0.5mm once a week
*dermaroll with 1.5mm once a month
Problems before beginning routine; noticeable whiteheads on nose (for over 2 decades), uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, skin thinned from over-exfoliating, dull skin, occasional hormonal spots, eczema on cheeks every winter, dry skin with oily T zone.
Problems resolved; um... well all of them!

Hi Miranda - just curious, why do you use a vitamin C only once per week? I was thinking about cutting back just a little bit more (I use it every other day now) because it makes my skin a little flushed. |

Well I only use it once a week because I don't like layering too many products (I use the copper serum normally), that's the only reason. Also I take vit C orally daily and figured (rightly or wrongly) there's no need to double up. |

No worries. Just hang around a bit more and that will all change. |

For sure the biggest changes were noticed when I began using hempseed oil and dry brushing.
I began dry brushing with basic facial brush from a Japanese shop. When I decided this was beneficial (and I would bother to keep it up), I upgraded to a Tre-Sonics Facial Cleansing & Massaging System (bought on eBay for about £12). It's a cheap but practically the same alternative to the costly Clarisonic. I never use it with products, just on my dry skin every morning. After dry brushing, I would apply the hempseed oil and massage, spritz on a very mild toner and wipe off excess leaving a thin film of protective oil. I've just begun using castor oil mixed with the HSO for a cleansing boost. However although it's recommended you must remove all trace of CO throughly, I haven't experienced any problem with not doing this (no dryness or spots). I haven't used the castor oil long enough to rave/dismiss it yet but my skin seems to like it also.
Take a read of the first post of this thread about hempseed oil and you'll see why I bought it!

But there is a downside to HSO, it must be kept refrigerated and the best by date is usually 6 weeks once opened. |

Mine is fairly eazy peazy these days;
A.M.
DIY Vitamin A, C + E Serum (alternate days, 2 or 3 times per week)
DIY Nourishing Serum (opposite days X 2 times per week) (I have 2 or 3 and switch them up depending on what actives my skin is craving.)
No sunscreen unless I'm out for extended periods, and then just transparent MMU
P.M.
DIY Retinol/AHA serum or Retin-A (alternating each 2 nights a week
CP Serum (2 nights a week, on the Retin-A nights)
Oils as needed anytime, and typically in conjunction with a ceramide lotion like CeraVe. (Favs for me are; macadamia, avocado, palm, jojoba + coconut)
Once a week;
NCN pumpkin peel with 5 or 6 drops of 88% lactic acid mixed into about a tsp. Leave on about 15 minutes. (I always follow this with an oil, ceramide and vitamin concoction to replace what I've stripped away.)
Steam facial.. Nothing fancy, just a pot of hot water with some green, white and chamomile tea steeped in it. Make a tent with a towel, and hand out a while. (I usually reheat once or twice as I go) |
_________________ ♥I'm flattered by all the lovely PM's, but I don't get here much these days. Please don't be afraid to post your quearies to other DIY members who will be glad to help you (or sell you their wares..lol) Still happy with LED, dermarolling and a DIY antioxidant regime. Peace & Hugs to all.♥ |

Hi erg,
I like the sound of honey water, I'm thinking that might be nice in a sprtizer bottle. I may try spraying it over my eyes, as they get very dry and I've heard honey is good for dry eyes,

Hi Jackie,
I splash the honey water over my entire face - no eye irritation at all. I am so shocked that something so easy (and inexpensive) has made my skin so soft and hydrated.
***Just be sure to use raw honey. The kind you find in the "honey bear" bottles did not work as well for me.

The obagi rosacear is a slightly tinted cream that's non greasy. It has 15.5% zinc and 2% titanium. Also helps reduce blotchiness associated with rosacea and is one I've stuck with for a while now.
As for the elastogenesis, I'd say my skin seems more resilient and less fragile since using it but results are generally subtle and more a small part of an entire skin rejuventation routine.
The elastogeneis product now appears to be discontinued but I found a bargain on ebay for elastica bounceback cream which is next to try.

AM
. Cetaphil cleanser
. Totalblock SPF 65
. Powder (sometimes)
PM
. Cetaphil cleanser
. Tri-Luma (spot treatment for a brown spot on my right cheek, which I got a few years ago do to sun damage)
I got a few zits here and there (especially on my chin). I don't know what I should do to prevent them from coming. I get the most during my menstrual cycle.
I start to notice fine lines on my eyes and around my jaw (when I smile). Ah, does it really go down hill after 25?? |
