Does anyone have a reco for a high factor sunscreen that contains only zinc as the active ingredient (no titanium or chemical sunscreens)?
Thanks! |

In Australia there are several good inexpensive ones. Natural Instinct contains 15% zinc oxide, silicones for slip and no oils. Cost is around $10AU for 125mls and $16AU for 250 mls. Sunclear by Grahams ($30AU for $150ml tube) contains 26% zinc oxide in a base of vegetable oils and shea butter, thick balm like consistency not particularly suitable for under makeup, but very water resistant and one application stops burning all day even in very hot weather. Mainly available in health food stores. Megan Gale Invisible Zinc in clear and tinted with 18% zinc oxide, prices starting at around $20AU for 75ml, quite thickish and the clear does leave a slight white cast. The Cancer Council Classic sunblock and Natural sunblock, both with 20% zinc oxide $12-13AU for 110ml tube, quite drying and difficult to wash off in the evening, both also leave a slight white cast. Out of these the Natural Instinct is the best for every day wear, no white cast and no oily finish (use a light moisturiser underneath as this product dries quickly on the surface of the skin, moisturiser first helps it to spread more evenly), and Sunclear for days spent at the beach, hiking, gardening, anytime you're going to be out in hot sun all day long. All of these are classified as SPF 30+.
Also available in Australia, and overseas, are UV Natural and Soleo Organics, both containing around 18-20% zinc oxide, both very greasy because they are thick balms containing vegetable oils and beeswax. The beeswax tends to give me blackheads and these are also too greasy to use under makeup. Avene make some zinc oxide only sunscreens, they do tend to leave a white cast, and they also make a tinted compact version (not good for many skin tones). There are other overseas ones that I have heard of but not used, so I can't comment on them. |

Hello! Osmosis makes a sunscreen called Shelter (29+ spf) which has 20% Zinclear/micronized zinc. It is not oily at all - in fact, I wear a moisturizer underneath it expecially in the wintertime. There isn't any white cast with this product. |
