Hi,
I'd appreciate it if people could name their favourite/best retinol product? I'm using it to prevent breakouts & improve pigmentation from previous breakouts. Thank you. |

I've been very happy with PSF's .5% retinol night cream. After I finish my latest bottle, however, I plan to switch to Retin-A Micro that my derm has prescribed for me (provided my sensitive, rosacea-prone skin can tolerate it; if not, I'll go back to PSF).

Thanks Jeannine,
Are you switching because it has a different formulation or just to try something new? Thanks |

I tried a few retinol products and my favorite was Philosophy's Hope and a Prayer capsules. These went on smoothly (full of silicone I'm sure) but also made my skin slightly flaky in the AM which I liked since I knew it was doing something. I also tried SkinCeuticals 0.1% retinol product and the Afirm 3X and liked those as well. |

I'm switching because Micro Retin A is the Rx strength. This means (at least I think it means) that it should work faster and more effectively than a product that is not Rx strength. The issue for me is whether or not my skin can tolerate it. Rx strength is usually not tolerated well by people with rosacea. However, I tried to work up to it gradually by starting with the gentler PSF formula, so hopefully I'll be fine. I have a couple of weeks before I'll start the Rx Retin-a.

After 10 years of using Retin-A 0.25,(which my doctor prescribed for the treatment of acne rosacea), I decided that although my rosacea had improved, I would try the higher strengths for anti-aging. My doctor would not prescribe me a higher strength so I bought it myself from an on-line pharmacy. I tried Retin-A 0.5, which made my skin look worse so I decided to try the Retin-A-Micro, which seems to be tolerated better. I can honestly say my skin now looks much clearer and brighter, no irritation at all. I do peel but using a microfibre cloth takes care of this. I am sticking with this one as it's done more for my skin in a month, than 10 years using the low strength ever did! |

Which strength of Retin-A-Macro you are using? 0.5?...and where did yo get it? Thanks!
I looked at medsmex and they have micro gel only in 0.01 strength. |

Has anyone tried the Alpha Hydrox retinol product? I think it's called ResQ. I saw so many great reviews for it at MUA. |

Sorry, I meant to say it was 0.1%. I bought it from In House Pharmacy online, (I live in the UK.) Very reasonable prices, and quick delivery. |

Thank you! If I understand it correctly, you are using Retin-A Micro Gel 0.1% from In House Pharmacy. http://www.inhousepharmacy.co.uk/skin-care/retin-a.html |

I just wanted to second this, my skin looks better after a week of using Retin A 0.1% that it did after a year of using lower strengths. However I am glad that I started with a lower strength and worked my way up as I got a feel for how Retin A works and affects the skin. Retin A can make you look like you are 100 years old at times but when that top layer of dried out skin flakes off my skin just looks so peachy . Great product and I think in a few years everyone who can tolerate it will use it! |

Hi Jesselyn,
I think the site is down at the moment, but all you do is type "perfect complexion" into google and it should be the first site that pops up.

mpstat, that's correct. I don't know whether it's the gel formulation or just the higher strength that suits my skin, but the 0.5 really irritated my skin and it looked awful. There was no way I could have continued using it, but I do agree with Pandora77, that you should build up slowly. |

Thanks lillilulu and pandora77! I started retin-A slowly, and now in my second month at 0.025% cream. I have read that retin-a at lower strength has the same result as at higher strength, but based on your experiences this is not the case. For both of you higher strength works better, and it is good to know.
Do you use retin-a every day? I read that for the first year one needs to use retin-a daily, at the same time retin-a should not be used in conjunction or preceded by peels… is it the case??... now I do not know haw to incorporate pumpkin/bha peels into my routine… . Any suggestions??? |

Skincareaddicted,
I checked out perfect complexion's retinol serum and it doesn't say anything about the ingredients/strength of the product. Do you happen to know? And did you peel a lot when you started using it? Thanks! |

mpstat, you would want to stop the Retin A a few days before and a few days after pumpkin peels. If you have very tolerable skin, you may be able to get away with only 1 day before and after, but be careful as your skin is more sensitive using Retin A. |

Thank you, rileygirl! It sounds that for about a year I should not do any peels at all, because I should be applying retin-A daily, while increasing retin-A strength, and after a year get on twice a week regimen. |

You're welcome, mpstat. Not necessarily though. Yes, they recommend Retin A nightly for 1 year, but you still can stop for a few days to do a pumpkin peel if you desire, and then get right back on the Retin A. It really is totally up to you and what your skin can handle! Good luck! |
