Well, I happened upon these quite by accident, and I am now hooked!
I have gradually been trying to switch over my beauty products and make-up to more natural/organic products with fewer additives and ingredients. The one item I haven't had any success with so far is lipstick. I've tried lipsticks from lines like Gabriel, Hemp Organics,Ecco Bella, and all have fallen short. Either the colour selection too limited, or the lipstick texture is difficult to apply.
A couple of weeks ago I received a free Cover Girl TruShine lipstick in a promotion. I took mine home without much enthusiasm. The colour (415 Blushing Berry) looked like an uninteresting neutral, and since I haven't touched Cover Girl in years, I pretty much dismissed it and tossed it in my make-up bag.
In a rush a few days later, I happened to swipe some on my lips as I was leaving to go out. Well lo & behold, it felt great! It had a very moisturizing texture - glossy without being sticky or goopy, and deposited a nice amount of pigment. Even the unexciting colour looked nice with my PPP cool skin. For a glossy formula, it also had pretty good staying power!
Impressed and curious, I visited the tester section in the drugstore. LOTS of tempting colours. I wound up buying two more in more vivid pink/mauve shades. I also snapped up a Cover Girl "Incrediful" lipstick. This is supposedly a limp plumper and obviously has menthol or some other ingredient to make your lips tingle. Can't really say it made my lips bigger, but again, excellent texture and staying power.
No unpleasant smells with either of these types of lipsticks either.
Colour me totally surprised! God only knows what frightening ingredients go into these, but I must say my lips are very happy. |

I'd bought one of these a few months back. LOVED the colour, but to me there was some sort of an "after taste" when I used it. I know that sounds funny ... I'm not sure quite how to explain it. It was nearly like I could breath in some icky fumes off the lipstick. Now THAT sounds really weird, but I don't know how to explain it differently. I tried it a few times, because the colour was awesome, but I ended up throwing it away because of it. I'd be curious if anyone else noticed the same thing or if I'm just strange! |

LOVE the trushine colors. I'm very fair and I've got lavender shine, which looks fab on me. Also, it stays on very well after eating/drinking. I'll soon be trying more colors after seeing how nice the one compliments my skin tone. |

Moonstar - that's too bad you felt an aftertaste to these. One of the things that pleasantly surprised me was that I couldn't detect any scent or flavor whatsoever. I was shocked since I have unpleasant memories of heavy fragrance from Cover Girl make-up in the past.
Could be you're more sensitive to the ingredients - it must have really bothered you if you had to toss the lipstick. Pity - it does have a nice texture and pretty shades. |

Hi Moonstarr....
I just bought a tube of Covergirl Trushine.
Put it on this morning....oh my...what a horrid smell..something like peroxide...yuck.
I scrubed my lips with soap and water, I couldn't get the lipstick off fast enough!
I went to the computer right away looking to see what other people thought. Found other people saying the same thing.
Going to return it right away. |

Love the Trushine, I have Blushberry & Cinnamon & love them both. I don't notice a smell or bad taste at all. I'm going back for more, they are 25% off at Rite Aid this week! |

Hey cheezwiz, if you're aiming to convert from drugstore to natural/organic, have you thought about trying any Dr. Hauschka lipsticks? I've tried natural formulas from Gabriel, Ecco Bella and Honeybee Gardens too, and the colors weren't right for me either (or the consistency was weird). But even though the Hauschka range is also limited, I think their formulations are nicer and somehow their colors seemed better. I also think you might want to take a look at Cargo Plant Love lipsticks - not a HUGE range of shades, but it's another natural brand that might help out. And as a bonus, I know every once in awhile EDS gives away free Cargo lipsticks as the forum surprise gift, so you might keep that in mind too... hope this helps! And sorry for the hijack, since this is more about avoiding Cover Girl than reviewing it. |

I'm so glad someone else realised the gross gross smell/taste - i dont mind overly fake or plasticy smells (not that i love them, but i can still use those products) but this - its SUCH a shame as the peachy colour is perfect ... i just can not use it
I wonder if its a faulty thing - as some people seem to not mind at all? |

I think it is just the level of sensitivity that some people have. Some people are more sensitive to scent than others. I have not tried these because I have not had the pleasure of a lipstick that lasts without me having to reapply way too often. But I am tempted. A few dollars (spent 100 times a year trying out those few dollar items) is easier to take than $$$ at a time. |

Big no no if you are L2K devotee! I love reading about lipsticks though. Love it. It takes a lot of willpower for me to NOT buy alipstick that gets a happy review - HOpe you all enjoy your inexpensive fun lippies. |

i have 415 too, and i love it! it punches up my natural lip colour subtly.. very beautiful. my only problem with cover girl lipsticks (their whole line, actually) is that the colour wears off quickly on my skin/lips. quite unfortunate because their colours are gorgeous |

I like the colors they have as well. But I did get that awful aftertaste on my lips. It is very moisturizing though |
