Hi All. I hit my shin about a year ago on the corner of my bed and gave myself a pretty nasty bruise. Now, a year later, there is still a bluish/brown mark under the skin.
Are there any products I can use to remove this? If not, any other suggestions? My skin is very pale and this looks just horrible! ![Confused](images/smiles/confused.gif) |

I did the same thing at the gym about 9 months ago (not on the shin directly, but beside it). My bruise is reddish/brown and just doesn't go away! I asked my doc about it, and she thought it was odd. I had an X-ray as she wondered if I had fractured a bone. But, I hadn't. Odd, isn't it? |

mpstat, thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tried anything yet--I wasn't sure if the usual suspects for brown spots/hyperpigmentation would work, since it doesn't look like the skin itself is discolored. It looks like it is below the skin. They are definitely worth a shot though! I'll check into Reviva .
smoky1--it is weird! I'm glad I'm not the only one. My guess is that it's an area without a huge blood supply, so the leftover 'gunk' isn't getting cleared away. I haven't asked my doc about it, but I think I may next time I'm in. |

A couple of years ago, I had a nasty bruise on my thigh from hitting the corner of my desk at work. It was big one and it never seemed to totally go away...then over time, I noticed it was not only slightly discolored, but there was a dent in that spot too. I went to the Doc and found out it was called Fat Necrosis, which is caused from trauma to an area. I couldn't believe I was going to have a dent on the front of my thigh, for the rest of my life. As it turns out, soon after that I went in to have some fat graphs done on my face, and asked the Plastic Surgeon to put some fat back in that spot on my thigh. Yee haw! It worked! |
