I've been searching for the HG of moisturizers for oily/acne prone skin that will fight signs of aging and will not break me out. I've tried many department store brands as well as more expensive ones like Kinerase lotion (which seems to be the one which breaks me out the least so far but is sooo expensive). I really wanted to like Decleor's ylang ylang balm but it too seemed to break me out, maybe I didn't try it long enough though? I also tried Jason Beckett but it was too rich for my oily skin.
Any suggestions?? |

I have the same skin as you, and tried the ylang ylang balm as well- did nothing for me and made me break out more.
Currently I am using Jan Marini Bioclear cream (for breakouts) and then Jan Marini transformation cream on top (for moisture and anti- aging. The two work great together (only use a little of each though), my skin looks and feels great. |

Skin Care Junkie, I break out easily too, so I'm in pretty much the same boat. Here are some options I think you will like:
1) Naturderm's Chrysalyx + Naturdermx. You can find these atwww.greatnewskin.com, as well as right here at EDS. They are a bit pricey, but they are total anti-aging power houses and not only do they not cause break outs, they helped heal my old acne scars substantially.
2) Zenbiotic's Phyto Moisture + Moisture Enrich, which can be found atwww.zenbiotic.com . Phyto Moisture is their basic, daily use spray on moisturizer, and then if you need extra moisture you can either use Moisture Enrich (which is an oil mixture), or Winter Moisture which is another spray-on moisturizer. I am totally addicted to this stuff--- the ingredients are beyond awesome, it causes ZERO breakouts, and on top of everything else, I think having a spray-on moisturizer is just so convenient. Sometimes in the dead of winter my mineral make up can make my skin a bit dry and look a little crepey or flakey, but just a few mists of Phyto Moisture over my make up and the flakes are gone and my face is dewy and glowing. |

Thanks Canadian Girl, two days ago I ordered Jan Marini's bioclear lotion and transformation lotion. I had read such great stuff on a thread here about it that I thought I would give it a try. It was a toss up between the bioclear lotion and cream but I do have pretty oily skin so I went with the lotion. I also ordered the facewash as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this line will help with my oily skin and acne. But don't we need a moisturizer on top of the bioclear lotion and transformation lotion?
Manslayerliz, thanks for the naturderm and Zenbiotics suggestions. I think I read about zenbiotics on another threat (maybe by you??) and I checked out the site and the prices and products look pretty good. I'll check out the naturderm stuff next. I like the idea of a spray on moisturizer. Do you have to let it set a while before putting anything else on it? |

skin care junkie,
My skin is quite oily as well, and I find that I don't need another moisturizer on top of the transformation cream. I don't know if you will over the lotions though.

You're most welcome! Actually, if you apply it to damp skin it pretty much is absorbed instantly, so I just mist my face first with Caudalie's Grape Water or Zenbiotic's Oxytoner. HTH! |

Thanks Canadian Girl, that's good to know. I thought the transformation lotion was more of a resurfacing thing and that it wouldn't necessarily moisturize. Will the transformation lotion work to fight wrinkles like a good anti-aging moisturizer would? |

Great, thanks manslayerliz, that sounds easy! I have Claudalie's Beauty Elixir, would that work as a spray before the spray moisturizer? |

Check out this link- a few others have used it and do see a difference in their wrinkles. I really don't have any yet (thank god!) so I wouldn't be able to tell you.

Thanks manslayerliz!!
Thanks Canadaian girl, it sounds like the transformation serum is like a moisturizer and is definitely age fighting. I also don't really have any lines yet (except around my eyes) but was looking to prevent them.
I think what I'll do is just use the JM bioclear and transformation lotions when they arrive and if I feel like I need more of a moisturizer then I'll try manslayerliz's suggestions of zenbiotics or naturderm.
Thanks guys! |

skin care junkie,
you should try Osea's Advanced Protection Cream. It's awesome for anti-aging and is made with a base of red algae (almost the same stuff as seamollient or sea kelp bio) so i would imagine it would be great for oily skin.

Skincareaddicted,
Thanks for the tip, what is it that makes red algae good for oily skin? I don't know much about that stuff. Have you tried Osea's before? |

Hi skin care junkie,
red algae is water based so i would think it would be good for skins that avoid oil (though i think certain oils are awesome for oily skin). i don't know how awesome it is for oily skin but it's just great in general. the Osea APC cream is kinda mattifying, and i think the red algae base has something to do with it, since it creates kinda a film but in a good way. when i have to wear my oilier sunscreens i feel this helping to block out the nasty ingredients.

skincareaddict,
Thanks! Everything you said makes sense to me. I've been searching for years to find a sunscreen that won't clog my pores or make my face look oily and shinny...or at least something that would be act as a barrier. What you describes sounds good. Hummm, more products to add to my wish list!! I need more money! HAHA! How do you use it in your skin care regime? What do you put on before and after the Osea APC cream?
Thanks kris |

Rosario, I had/have the same problem w/sunscreens. I've used the Obagi Nu-derm SPF 35 and it has worked pretty well for me. My skin also gets v. congested along w/the breakouts. HTH! |

msaries1,
Can you tell us more about the Obagi Nu-derm SPF 35? Does it make your face look chalky or oily when you have it on?
Thanks |

I haven't had much problem with it looking chalky..and I know exactly what you mean b/c I've tried the Sofina and that's left me v. chalky. My skin has a tendency to be oilier in the afternoon than the morning. I've had that problem w/and w/out sunscreens....the Obagi 35 didn't seem to add to it any more than what I usually experience. It is the one sunscreen I've found that doesn't make me break-out. I didn't wear sunscreen in my 20's for exactly that reason...the breakouts. Now, in my late 30's, I try to wear it as often as possible. I still have that oiliness sometimes, but with the sun damage I seem to have accumulated over the years, I need something, and the Obagi works pretty good for me. HTH!! |

msaries1,
Thanks for the review of the Obagi Nu-derm SPF 35. I'm like you and have a hard time finding a sunscreen that doesn't break me out or cause me to look really oily. DDF matte finish SPF 30 has been the closest thing for me but I do find it still has a whitish hue. I guess that's to be expected the higher the SPF it is. I'll definitely keep the Obagi in mind for this summer...no point in trying it out yet since Eastern Canada in February isn't exactly overly hot and sunny!! |

I've been using spf in my moisturizer for a few years now. I currently use Juice Beauty tinted moisturizer spf 30 and like it a lot but I'm not sure how strong of a sunblock it actually is? Do you know anything about the benefits of that brand as far as blocking out UVB and UVA goes? I agree though, the earlier the sunblock use the better!! |

hi, my routine varies as i like using a multiple moisturizers. if i use my vitamin C serum, that goes on first. i probably use the APC 3 times a week on very damp skin. i then spritz my skin again and apply a layer of HA serum and avocado oil on top. SS is last and i absolutely adore devita SS. it's like a nice aloe layer without the tightness.
i know what you mean about money but i spend recklessly on my face and can't stop . the APC will last a long time as it's very concentrated and if you apply it on damp skin, it's easy to spread so you don't use that much. my devita SS is actually really cheap, $15 for 2 oz. if you buy from the internatural site or else it's like $30.
HTH, good luck! |

Thanks skincareaddicted....I can see where we both get our log on names from!! HAHA! We're both hooked on skin care products....although that's probably most people on this forum....I've found "my people" on this site!!
Sounds like you have a pretty comprehensive and effective skin care regime. I wish I could stick to the same thing. I do that for a while and then start thinking there must be something better out there. The need to try new things as well as never finding anything that seems to get rid of the acne on my chin keeps me hunting. I just got some JM products in the mail yesterday and have started them but one day is not long enough to know anything yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But you never know, in a couple of months I could be moving on to the Osea and Devita.
Thanks again |

Hi skin care junkie,
LOL, i have a few routines, i guess! it's hard to stay true and the osea cream is one of the few that i do repurchase. at the moment, i have the Dr. Hauschka quince cream, a chamomile orange cream from mountain rose herbs, and i have a lifting lotion from a home business coming in the mail and have ordered 2 more moisturizers from another vendor! it's crazy but i have been applying everything to my chest, arms and neck now so i need more products, lol.
Jan Marini makes some nice products, my sister's acne cleared up 100% with the bioglycolic bioclear cream by using it 3 times a week at night only. it's potent stuff and i can't believe how super clear her teenage skin is! i wish i knew about that stuff when i was younger cause i had bad skin!
Good luck with your products and welcome to the forum.
Kris |
