After coveting it for a long time, I finally got a tube of the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. At first I felt kinda bad, spending $22 on "fancy chapstik", but it's the one product that I use multiple times a day and I'm pretty fussy about lip balms, so I took the plunge, and I'm so glad I did.

This is my new favorite lip balm. I've had a hard time finding something that is really moisturizing and emollient, has some SPF, no strong odor, no irritating ingredients and isn't greasy, grainy or sticky. I'm also not into anything that comes in a pot, jar or tin, since I'm not going to wash my hands every time my lips feel dry. (at some point, I'll have to do a write up on some of the balms that have tried and failed)

The Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is super moisturizing. If I have hard dry dead skin on my lips, I can put on some FSLT, rub my lips together for 20 seconds, and the hard dry patches have been softened into submission. It sinks in really quickly and isn't greasy. It's got a really faint lemon scent. There's no mint or cinnamon to irritate my sensitive skin.

The packaging is amazing. It's like a plastic lipstick tube where the top screws on and it's all coated in a layer of aluminum. I don't know if I described that well, but it's really substantial and indestructible (it went flying out of my purse when I was spazzing out, hit my car pretty hard and the only damage a small dent on one edge). While the screw on top doesn't give you the quick access that a normal lip balm tube would have, it is totally impossible for the stick of balm to twist it's way up into the cap while rolling around in your purse or pocket.

The downside is 1) for the price I'd like to have more balm in the tube and 2) it contains BHT which might be weird (I didn't realize when I bought it and now I can't quit it).

The ingredient list:

OCTINOXATE (ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE) 7.49 %

I tried the Kielh's but it was too much like Vaseline for me.

I just dug the old tube out of my desk drawer and it says it's 88% petrolatum (aka petroleum jelly). Some of the other ingredients look pretty good. Not that there's anything wrong with vaseline, but I'm not a big fan of that texture/consistency in a lip product. If I put too much on it feels greasy and gloppy. And it doesn't sink in as well as some other products I've tried.

I have used the lip treatment also. All of their products are expensive! I splured on their sugar scrub which was really great but not worth $75 just to wash it down the drain! I also really like their lychee bath cubes for $35! Yikes! Shock

Looooooooooooooooooove this stuff too. Not only is it delicious, highly moisturizing, but it also gives your lips a lovely satiny sheen.
That being said, what is BHT? Confused

it's certainly expensive, i think dr. H's lip balm is nice and natural and moisturizing at half of Fresh price...

on the lower end, aquaphor by eucerin works very well for under $2 a tube, it's petroleum product but much better than vaseline for some reason..

Isn't the first ingredient Petroleum, a by-product from the oil industry and generally "Vaseline"?

I have this product too and it was hard to spend the $22. I hate to admit it but it has a wonderful texture and scent, not too much and very silky. Here's what I found on BHT:

BHT - Butylated Hydroxytoluene - An anti-oxidant used to extend the shelf life and delay rancidity of oils and fats in foods and cosmetics. Used to treat oils for soap. BHT can be used to treat oils for use in cosmetics other than soap.

not real helpful but it's something....

No, that's quite helpful! Thanks sissyp. At least I have some idea of what it is! And I agree with you the texture of this lip balm is extremely silky! Just wished it lasted longer Sad

I love, LOVE this product! I live in the desert and am NOT good about drinking enough water. I know - gasp! I'm trying really hard to increase my water intake.

After moving to arizona 8 years ago, my lips immediately became dehydrated, cracked, and started peeling and bleeding. I was miserable, and started trying every product out there from drugstore to high end products. I discovered Sugar last year and have been hooked ever since.

The texture is wonderful and as many others mentioned, very silky. The scent is light and I really don't taste any flavor, which is good for me because I tend to lip my lips if I apply anything flavored. The tube is very elegent and durable. I tend to panic at home if I can't find it. If I run out, I reach for my older balms, but I just don't like their texture or hydration anymore. I'm hooked! I struggled with the price, but at this point I was willing to try anything to find my HG. I started buying this product on eBay and can sometimes find 2for1 deals.

I do have 2 small issues:

1) The product doesn't last very long. I tend to go through it in about 45 days (I think). I need to start tracking how long a tube lasts, but the problem I have is misplacing it (thanks to my cat), so I open up my backup reserve tube. I'm sure if I increased my water intake, my lips would not dry out so quickly.

2) I really can't apply gloss or lipstick over it - the color tends to fade or slide right off. I'm going to try applying it before I start my makeup routine and then apply lipstick before I leave the house and see how that works.
