Just a little rant about how bad skin can prevent you from doing things you enjoy. I have struggled with acne my whole life, but felt I have gotten it under control over the last 3 or 4 months thanks to EDS Smile But just had a major breakout, and as a result canceled a lot of my plans! No yoga this week, no rock climbing with friends or going to the swimming pool, because I can't bear to be seen without make-up! Additionally, afraid sweat, chlorine, etc could aggravate condition. I just feel hideous at the moment and can't bear for anyone to see my au natural! I have just been running straight home after work, taking off my makeup, and sitting on the couch feeling depressed. Anyone else experience similar feelings?
Ok, feel better already having written about it, but I can't wait until my skin and life get back to normal!

ABSOLUTELY! I'd always had beautiful skin (mostly due to being in the lucky gene club), but when I turned 39 I developed acne. It was due to a vicious stress/hormone cycle. Boy, that sent me into a medium-deep depression for an entire year. I stopped working out, I didn't socialize w/ people, went out of my house as little as possible.

Knock on wood, my skin has gotten back to it's normal (for me) state w/in the last month. I really feel for those who've had ongoing problems w/ acne Sad

Been there, done that!!! There are some times when makeup doesn't do anything to help the situation. I've avoided doing many things in my life and the times when I couldn't avoid them I was so miserable. Yeah, it's just my skin but it no matter what affects my mood so then it becomes much more than just a skin issue-- it involves how I interact and come across to people, know what I mean?

I still have never been out in public w/o at least foundation and concealer. I'm just thankful for the days when I only have to spend 30 seconds or less covering my spots with concealer!

Anyway, hang in there elmoparis! I feel for ya!

I'm going through this problem right now. I thought I had my acne under control- my face is perfectly clear now thanks to the EDS forum.

But now my back has severly broken out. I had mild break outs before and using head and shoulders on my back had seemed to help. But about 5 months ago, I stupidly thought that I would get my back waxed. I know I know sounds stupid, and the even stupider thing is that I don't even have a really hairy back! Just a little blonde peach fuzz, but I was a little self concious about it and I was going to a family event where I was going to be wearing a gorgeous very low back dress, so I thought hey, I know a few of my friends who get their backs waxed and it looks so smooth, I will do the same.

So I did- and the next day I broke out in tiny pimples all over my back, then it got worse, the small pimples became huge hurting pustules all over my back! And really mean all over!

Most of them have subsided, but at any given moment I still have about 5 on my back. The worst part is I have this horrible scarring on my back now from the acne. It looks so bad. I haven't worn a low or strapless top or dress for 5 months, and if I do, I have to wear some sort of sweater or cover up on top to conceal my backne and scars.

I am very distraught over it and make sure that I am never in any situation where someone may see my back.

I have recently purchased MAMA lotion and am hoping that it will get rid of my acne and scars.

If anyone has a miracle remedy, please let me know!

Thanks everybody! Glad I am not the only one!

amnis - I, too, never go out of the house w/o foundation and concealer! I see you are using Tazorac and have read some posts about it. I am interested in trying it, but am living in Paris and don't know if it is available here. I need to do some research, I guess! Are you still using it and happy with results?

CanadianGirl - So sorry to hear about your back - I too have done things before in order to look my "very best", only to have it backfire! I hope you find a solution. Hang in there!

My confidence does kinda depend on the condition of my skin that day - I know, bad habit that needs to be broken. Now, I get self-conscious when someone sits/stands near to me and looks at my face. Sigh.

Oh god definitely. I feel like I can't go to the gym or really go out at all unless I've got the face on. Embarassed I have terrible acne since I was in middle school and it is not going away. Mad So my skin underneath the makeup is red, splotchy, and combination skin. Bad bad bad. I'm very embarrassed though. There is a bunch of clothes I won't wear because of my chest or back has terrible skin as well.

Yes...it's horrible, but when I feel like I'm having bad skin...no eye contact, skip classes, etc, etc...I wish I wasn't this way.

I remember having horrible skin in HS, it totally sucked the life out of me. These days, my skin is really good, but when i do get the rare pimple in a very noticeable area (nose, mouth area), i absolutely am self conscious, and use tons of concealer!

It definately hinders me...I have a light form of psoriasis, but when it appears on my face I feel so much more insecure and want to hide behind my hair/or wear hats...
I will not show off my back in the summer, and can be somewhat jealous of girls/women with flawless skin on their back who can wear beautiful backless shirts...
