Hi
I have stubborn acne on my chin, but the rest of my skin is very sensitive, prone to redness, and very combination, with dry cheeks and an oily t-zone. I'm still looking for my 'holy grail' cleanser as a lot of acne cleansers are too harsh for the rest of my skin and a lot of gentle ones don't do anything for the acne.
Does anyone else out there have this type of skin and can recommend a cleanser that's worked for them?

My dermologist has advised I use cetaphil or water and don't touch face if I use any lotion. |

In addition he tell me and other patients wash all towel and pillow case with baby soap, because it may cause acne. |

Do you wear makeup Deb? And are you looking for a treatment cleanser or just something to clean? |

Hi Vonstella
I'm looking for something that'll take my makeup & all the general grime off, but also something that'll help clear up my chin as well. Its so frustrating, because I only get the acne on my chin, and with my wedding coming up I just want to nail this once and for all- my acne's worse at 29 than it was at 19! My doctor has given me a topical cream which I understand is similar to accutane in that it is a highly concentrated dose of Vitamin A, and that is helping (although its also making me peel a lot), and I just wanted to see if there was anything else I could do.

I see, I would really recommend Earth Science A-D-E Creamy Cleanser, I use it to remove my MU/SS before I use my Clarisonic. It really melts away MU (including eye), oil and grime, without drying my skin. This may be helpful since you are using a topical A cream. You can purchace it at Whole Foods or here online. |

Have you tried Le Roche Posay and Rose water as a toner or else Origins are a great line as I am suing Mega Mushroom range for hormonal breakouts (at the upper age limit) and my skin has totally cleared and red cheeks are calmer looking sensitive skin does not need harsh products and a lot of acne treatments are |

MD Forte Facial Cleanser I. My neighbors young adult daughter swears by it for her hormonal acne. Recommended to her by her dermatologist. |

I love this stuff -- I used it for ages, and I might go back to it once I get a Clarisonic, since I want to get something that's more or less the same consistency as the cleanser they make to go with the brush. I always liked how effective but gentle this stuff was. |

I use spectrojel for sensitive acne prone skin, and it has done wonders for my skin.
I don't think it removes makeup too well, but if you rub the spectrojel on your skin in circular motions for 30 seconds or longer, it really clears up acne fast!
I usually use origins checks and balances cleanser first to get rid of any dirt or makeup I have on, then I rub the spectrojel for 30seconds and wash off.
Make sure you use the one for sensitive acne prone skin in the purple container.
My 40 yr old aunt and teenaged cousin use it as well, and it totally cleared their skin. |

Thanks for all the suggestions- I don't know which to try first! The earth Science one sounds really good, as does the Origins. I'm UK based and Origins only do one Mega Mushroom cleanser here- are there more in the states? Just want to make sure I'm getting the right one! Canadian Girl- could you let me know where you get spectrojel from?
Thanks |

Deb78,
My skin sounds very similar to yours, especially the acne on the chin. I've been using Dermalogica Dermal Clay cleanser for a few years and although I'm always looking for something better it's the only thing that seems to work pretty well for me. However, having said that I have an order on the way from EDS for Jan Marini for the biglycolic facial lotion and the tranformation serum. They were both highly recommended by many forum members. I didn't order the bioglycolic facial cleanser just because I'm fairly happy with my dermalogica dermal clay cleanser and didn't want to try too many products at once for fear of now knowing what was working or not working. But if you're looking for a cleanser for acneic and sensitive skin you might want to try the JM bioglycolic facial cleanser, but I can't vouch for it since I've never tried it. Good luck! |

Deb78, I can totally relate to that! Stubborn, silly hormonal chin acne. My best advice is for you to visit a dermatologist. I found that oral tetracycline (antibiotics) cleared up my hormonal acne very effectively, whereas nothing I put on my face would clear it up, especially if your acne tends not to surface.
I've also tried the antibiotic minocycline in the past, but it didn't work for me. The dermatologist told me that she typically finds that people do not respond as well to oral minocycline. If the oral antibiotic is working, you should be able to notice some results fairly soon e.g. the stubborn under-the-skin acne will start surfacing and recovering much much quicker, and you should find that no new ones pop up, so that your skin will eventually become clear.
Don't wait for too long to see a doctor as I did, if you find that your acne isn't clearing up, no matter what you do, and you keep getting new ones, there will be a high potential of developing more and more discoloration, and scars (which will take ages to correct).
Good luck! |

Hi
Yes, I tried some antibiotics and they did improve the situation, but didn't clear it up completely. Now my doctor has prescribed me a topical Vit A cream which I've been using for about a week or so. However, I was told it may get worse before it got better- which is kind of what I'm experiencing now! There's lot of congestion under the surface of the skin on my chin, and I was just looking for something to help it along!

Hi Skin Care Junkie
Yes, I tried the dermalogical dermal clay cleanser, and my skin couldn't even tolerate that!
I like the sound of the JM, but I'm UK based and I've got a feeling you can't get it here- does anyone know if they ship to the UK? |

I would be careful with the Jan Marini Bioglycolic Facial Cleanser, Im not even sensitive but this stuff stung a lot everytime I used it, in fact the whole line did. Thats one of the main reasons I quit using it. |

Try Aveeno foaming face wash, works great for sensitive skin and the St. Ives acne scrub...don't scrub too hard. Cetaphil face wash works great too. These products are cheap so you can give them a try and if you don't like them, no harm. |

I think Cetaphil is the best way to go. |
